  1. Hi BarnGirl!!! OMG I am so excited for you! that is awesome! I wish mine was sooner. My husband refused to go without a passport. So now we have to wait 4-6 weeks for that alone! Then we are going down the end of september. Trust me, if I had an opportunity to go on labor day weekend I totally would have done it!! I live in Northern California! I can't wait to hear more about it!!!! I am going to the same place! YAAAAAAAAA for you!!!!

  2. best of luck to you! You are doing the right thing. I am 5'1" and I weight 243. I have been reducing my carb intake for the last week and lost 5 lbs. I am on a mission to find different types of Protein shakes. so far I do not like the powders. I like muscle milk light chocolate. that is doable. I am scheduled for 9/27. As soon as I drop some weight my plan is to get into a excersize plan. right now I am just too heavy and I get tired too quickly. Plus my son is busy 4 nights a week from 4-8 (of course I have to stay with him) and saturdays due to his sports..........I just ordered "unjury" Protein samples. I hope they are good. I suggest going to Vitamin shoppe and trying protein powders ...but don't stock up. I hear after surgery you taste buds 'can' change. one gal I saw on youtube stocked up seriously like she was preparing for a tornado........she said after her surgery her buds changed and she hated the stuff she had bought. so for me, i am trying what I like now. but I won't buy until after the surgery! try carb reduction and see how it works for you.............the sooner you get into a routine (which is what i am attempting) the better off you will be after surgery! it won't be suck a shock! best of luck to you!!!!

  3. yeah.... so excited for you. Also check out facebook....they have a closed group called "bariatric newbees" and "sassy sleevers".........lots of cool people lots of great info..........best of luck to you on your journey! I am going 9/27 to mexico!

  4. I am also a self pay and am going to Mexico. I would most likely be authorized through my insurance, but it would still cost around $3000 plus all the dr visits copays etc....so it is going to be $4600 to go to mexico and skip all the hoops. I was scheduled for surgery 6 years ago and opted out. I went through the entire process was accepted and had a date. I declined as my kids were to young and it just wasn't the right timing. I am going through ALIGHTERME.COM. very nice people. I spoke with Sonya.she's super nice. she said that they have two finance companies they use. Check out their website and see who they finance through. just a thought.. best of luck to you! :)

  5. you are doing what is best....only you can control it now..........don't beat yourself over the past.. pick up and move forward.. tomorrow is a new day.... look at it as YOU being in control now.........that is how I am going to look at it when I get mine done.... I only have myself to blame if I don't stick to it...........you CAN do it.........

I feel your pain. I have never been this heavy (245) either. Not during either of my pregnancies.... so instead I am choosing to do the surgery and making myself accountable for it after it's done...........don't be mad at yourself... find the positive and make the change..............here to help you! have a great day!

  6. Good Morning: I have finally "decided" to do the surgery. I went through the entire process got approved and had a surgery date. My husband REALLY didn't want me to do it. so after all that drama, I backed out. I am now ready again and heavier than I was previously. We are going to apply for our passports next thursday. I have already contacted 'A LIGHTER ME' and that is where I have decided to do. I do not want to go through this entire process again. My insurance will cost $3000 so why not bypass all the drama and pay $4600 and be done with it! I am still at the beginning stage. I have to wait until my son is out of school on break. I am hoping to leave on Sept 26. I have been reading a lot and asking a lot of questions. my husband wants me to talk to my doctor first, so I have that appt scheduled. I love this site. People are extremely supportive and informative. Best of luck to you! I wish you well!

  7. Sorry, I should have been more clear. I want to know what REALLY to expect after the surgery. Some people have said that they are a little sore, but I want to hear yes, i will have trouble drinking or yes, you can't have mayo anymore or something like that... when I do this, I will have a 8-9 hour drive home... I am just curious what exactly I am to expect. Does that make sense? I don't want someone to sugar coat it for me, give it to me straight..

  8. Good Morning. I am at the beginning of my journey. I have contacted "A lighter me" in Tijuana, Mexico. I have a close friend that went there and had a fabulous experience. In fact she was there twice. The reason for my post is just to find out more info. I have heard many different situations. I am just looking to find out the good, bad and ugly. I am in hopes to get my surgery the beginning of October. I was going to go through my insurance but they have a long waiting period, lots of hoops and that is not guaranteed that I can get it. I am looking to see if anyone else is on the same page as I am just starting out! It's always better to have someone to talk to about it. I am not telling anyone (except my husband) about it. I do not want any negative feedback or anyone trying to talk me out of it. I went through this entire process (with the insurance) about 5 years ago. I am even heavier now than I was then. I AM READY to be done! We are going next week to get our passports. I have scheduled an appt to speak to my doctor about the different surgeries. I am thinking the "Sleeve" is best for me........any info is very much appreciated! Have a great day! :D
