  1. AWESOME!!!! Good for you!
  2. How are you feeling overall, and how long has it been since your surgery? Any regrets?

4 MONTH ROLL CALL, HOW MUCH U DOWN, SHARE YOUR NUMBERS

Your stories have left me awestruck! I'm now scheduled for November 17th, and so far I've lost 30 lbs. If I should be as successful as you all have been, I think I would be speechless! Literally speechless! I hope you are all feeling mighty proud of yourselves~I sure am!! WELL DONE!
  4. So, I called the Doctor to see if we could do my surgery during the 12 weeks thatI have to take off of work for my leg issues, since I can get around fairly well with the walker. They told me that I would need the Ortho that's treating me to okay it, since I would be standing for nearly 2 hours during the surgery. I had no idea that I would be STANDING! Is this common practice? I thought it would be a traditional, lay-on-the-gurney-and-enjoy-the-deep-sleep kind of procedure. I guess you learn something new everyday!

    Stand Up Surgery?

Kathleen~ At this point, I am just to avoid any weight on the left leg for 12 weeks, due to osteo-necrosis in the knee. So I was hoping to do the surgery while I was off work-and since my deductible has been paid up for the year-but since I have to be standing during surgery, we have to put it off until November, assuming my knee/leg is strong enough at that point. I'm praying I don't need to have the knee replaced, and that the bone will regenerate because being off work for so long is already making me nuts! LisNLasVegas~ Thanks for your input! I guess that makes sense~I just never thought about it! I thought all surgery was done horizontally.
  6. Yesterday I posted that I was having to cancel my procedure, due to osteonecrosis in my knee, as a result of having surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in my foot, and today I talked with the Dr's office, and I have a new date!!! November 17th--unless I heal sooner, and barring any complications with the bone in my leg healing. If it heals faster, then I can go sooner, but even if it takes longer, everything I've done up to this point will still be used to get it done in November! I haven't even had the procedure, and I'm already on the roller coaster!!!
  7. I am so frustrated! I had surgery last May to repair a ruptured tendon in my foot, and was just cleared last week to wear two shoes and begin P/T. I thought I would be good to go for my WLS procedure, but Nooooo! I was just diagnosed with 'osteonecrosis' in the same leg as the foot surgery. (Apparently, I did some damage to my knee by wearing a cast/boot all summer, and it has caused part of the bone to die. EW!) Anyway, since I have to stay off my feet for the next 12--yes, TWELVE!!--weeks, I had to put a brake on all plans for my sleeve. The good news is, I've already lost 24 lbs, on my own, but the bad news is now I will have to begin all over again once I am cleared from this leg issue. I hope I can keep losing on my own, and that I won't need knee replacement, but I can't seem to get beyond the disappointment of not being able to do this procedure for me. >sigh!< I guess I should be glad we discovered this now, so I can be healthier going forward, but DAGNABBIT! I was totally ready to follow through. I'll keep reading these boards, and celebrating your victories until it's my turn. Keep up the Great Work, Losers!!!
  8. Hi, again! So, being a control freak, I thought I'd get a jump on things. I've been using the MyFitnessPal app and really watching everything that goes into my mouth. I've lost 20 pounds in 26 days. YAY! But wait!!! Have I now lowered my BMI to a point where the surgery may not be appropriate?? Have I just proven that I can do it without surgery?? Do I continue to process to see if surgery is still for me?? I highly doubt I can keep the weight off without monitoring everything as closely as I am. (If I could, I wouldn't be considering hte sleeve inthe first place.) Plus, I am super tired. I mean, RIDICULOUSLY tired. I'm eating well under the amount of calories I'm allotted--like, under 800 per day, which is what I understand I would only be able to take in after surgery, so maybe just following the 'post-surgery' diet would be enough for me? Oh, man! I am soooo confused! ANY advise/guidance/suggestions will be most welcome! Thanks!
  9. Thanks, everyone! You've all helped to calm me down. I am still anxious about the procedure, but know in my heart that this is the right way to go~I've tried everything to get the weight off, and I've been able to lose, but then it creeps right back on. When I get my date, I will (most likely) make y'all nuts with questions, and seeking reassurance. I am so grateful for this group, and the openness of everyone here!
  10. You;re right, McButterpants! (love that name, by the way!) I don't think this would be sustainable in the long term. I think I am just super-driven at this point, and want to get the weight off while I wait for my surgery date. Thanks so much for easing my mind!

  12. Samanthar, I sure hope my insurance company shares that perspective!
  13. I weigh 248 today, down from 268, which is my all-time high. I've gotten down to 150 on Weight Watchers 25 years ago, before I got married. Then came two children, one of which has special needs. So there was depression from his diagnosis, and the a hysterectomy and the death of my mother, all of which brought me to my all time high. I've never been able to keep the weight off, as food brought me comfort. (You know, being raised to clean your plate, regardless of the portion sizes.) I really want to do the WLS for ME, because I don't like the body I am in, but now I fear I may have messed it all up!

How much time off of work?

What compounds this for me is that I am a food Service Director, so I'm around food ALL day long~ARGH! I think my team will be supportive of my fatigue-I'm going to say I had an appendectomy, since it's no one's business-but I will be super frustrated at my limitations (no lifting, etc.) I'm hoping I can pace myself yet still get back to work fairly quickly. Can you say Oxymoron?!?!

    Compression garment

That is awesome!!! Good for you! I read several people saying that they found good compression garments at WalMart and Target, very reasonably priced, too! I hope I have your success after my procedure next month!

    August 2014 sleevers? Let's chat!

Hi, Dreamgirl! Thanks for starting this discussion~I am planning on surgery in August, too, and trying to do as much research as possible. I'm sure I need to do this for ME, but as I've made changes to my diet, and I've lost 14 lbs. so far, I wonder if maybe I'm jumping the gun. I know I want to lose the 100 lbs, and I need to lose them, I worry that it's such a major/radical approach. I really want to be healthy, and not have aches and pains, and am hoping this will improve/eliminate my Firomyalgia. I've told only my husband, daughter, and father and don't plan on telling anyone at work, other than I'm working with a nutritionist and watching what I eat and exercising. I plan on telling my boss that I need time off for gall bladder surgery--cowardly, I know, but I don't want it broadcast throughout my workplace, as there are many "Gladys Kravitts'" where I work. (For you younguns, Glady Kravitts was the nosey neighbor on Bewtiched. Google it. ) Anyhow, I'm sorry for ramlbing....Thanks for starting this discussion~I'm sure I'll post more as the time comes closer.
