Mangold33 got a reaction from BeagleLover in Surgery Cancelled
Admitted for surgery August 6th. Awoke from anesthesia to be told the doctor could not complete my sleeve as he found cirrhosis in my liver. He felt it was too dangerous to attempt. So, it doesn't look like WLS is in my future, BUT, my scale will continue to go down, not up. I'm down almost 30 lbs now and I will use everything I've learned from this experience to continue to eat healthy and exercise. I'm learned a lot from the posts on this web site and from all the courageous people who have shared their experiences. Good luck to you all.

I have chosen to share my WLS with only my immediate family. I don't want that to be my identity ("Oh, he had WLS") nor do I want to be evaluated by others. Maybe in the future I will change my mind.

I'm on day 4. 3 shakes + Jello + SF popsicles….I had a headache off and on until today and I was very hungry, but today not so much. I'm not sure if it is my body adjusting or what. I hope it gets easier for you too!

I'm on the 3rd day of my 2-week pre-op liquid diet (4 shakes per day with 1 low carb yogurt, broth, SF Jello and ice pops). The first 2 nights I felt very woozy and dizzy, almost sick, and broke out in a cold sweat. I had a jello and ice pop and felt a little better before falling asleep. I'd do anything for a spoonful of peanut butter! Anyone else have a reaction like this? It's gonna be a rough next 12 days.

I overheard my HR Director talking to my Fiscal Director about "those poor people who let themselves go and become morbidly obese and have to do something drastic and have surgery." They didn't see me standing near them. Let me first say that these two people are the reason why my company's insurance EXCLUDES bariatric surgery so I had to wait a year and get on my husbands insurance. They said things like how the obese people need to take more responsibility for their health and they just need to exercise and watch what they eat. (Why didn't I think of that???) Neither of these two people are skinny minnies. I didn't say anything, but I felt like blasting them about it. Now everytime I walk past them, I get irritated.
So when I went to apply for my STD, I met with the assistant in the HR department (she is also a judgemental little b$%#^ ) and she asked me what surgery I was having. I am not sure why I told her. She ended up telling the other woman and now she has been treating me differently. It's a weird situation. I told my boss and a couple other coworkers and the couldn't be happier for me.
After I recover, I am looking for another job. I can't deal with these women anymore.

Thank you for bringing up this topic. I am about a couple months from having the Gastric Sleeve (waiting on the sleep Lab backlog). I'm not an overly private person. In fact I don't generally care what people think. However, I just don't want to explain to, nor hear the opinions of those who have no idea what it's like to be in my shoes. However, I can't imagine keeping it a secret afterward as I fear people will assume I have a life-threating disease like cancer causing the rapid weight-loss. I don't wish for any undue concern so I will gladly tell anyone interested (nosey) about the surgery after it is done.
