@@Butterflyhigh I truly appreciate your thoughtful, realistic post. Words like yours are invaluable. Thank you for taking the time to share.

I've tried updating the weight on my profile. I received a message that there needed to be a goal date. Really don't desire to put in a particular date in this field, because my goal date is when my body decides for itself. Anywho I went ahead and put a date in that field, updated my current weight, then clicked save. Even though a green msg appeared saying changes have been saved...it still shows my old weight.

@Aliyah14. Hi I'm definitely Christian & was sleeved in December. I've lost 100+ pounds and owe it all to Jesus! BTW, while folks may not make their religious preferences known...One can get a pretty good idea where someone is spiritually by the consistent tone of their posts and the negativity/chaos that follows. Be mindful & guarded as negativity is contagious. Peace & Blessings on your journey!

I was a size 18/20 when I began all the PreOp dieting back in June 2014. I had surgery six months later in December 2014. Currently I wear size 12. Hoping to get to size 10, then enter maintenance mode.

Monday, I found out that a coworker died suddenly because of an aneurism. One of my friends underwent surgery to remove a tumor...6 hours of surgery later, it was actually many tumors and now needs to go through chemo & radiation therapy. My sister in law just had a double mastectomy and is half way through Chemo.
Yet we (veterans, newbies, & the in between) are on a support board arguing with one another over some petty stuff in comparison. SMH. Isn't it exhausting to be mean, condescending, judgemental, sarcastic, and argumentative? Goodness gracious!

If the surgeon is reputable, and sees a medical reason to do the surgery & you are willing to subject yourself to the risks of surgery & the subsequent lifestyle changes...then I don't see the problem. My BMI the day of surgery was 31 without comorbidities. Some people assume that a person with a BMI as low as yours is going to lose a ton of weight & be crazy skinny. I doubt it. Those of us with lower BMIs know how slow weight loss for us is.
Someone with a BMI of like 40 can't assume that a person with a low BMI will have the same rate or amount of weight loss as them. Thats comparing apples with oranges.
ETA: Also getting the surgery for me was more so about keeping the weight off for life rather than just losing the extra weight.

Yuck! I'm not a picky person and if I buy something I make it work. But I found those chips to be just awful that I just couldn't continue eating them. The worst thing was that I bought like 6 bags and lost the receipt. So I ended up throwing them away...I couldn't bring myself to subject anyone else. I mentioned my experience to the guy at Vitamin Shoppe and he said that people return them all the time and that his manager was going to stop carrying them.

I didn't cheat/slip up during PreOp & quite a few others on this site have followed their surgeons plans. I don't say this to make you feel bad in any way. What's done is done. There's no point in beating yourself up about it. But you need to know that you can do this. Just imagine how good you'll feel when your being wheeled into surgery with the knowledge that you did things right the rest of PreOp. I encourage you to stay strong and take it one meal at a time. It does get easier.

@@ProjectMe how far along are you post-op? Does it still hurt to eat? I'm 4 months post op...it still hurts... :-(
I am 3 months PostOP. It doesn't hurt when I eat. I can eat more of some things, and less of others. For example, I can eat almost a cup of turkey chili, but only 2 ounces of chicken. It's important to know your full signal so that you don't overeat. My signal is that I get the hiccups.

I remember seeing a few mentions of a "reset sleeve" process. I think it's basically returning to basics. Maybe do a search for the term in the search bar. I also saw a 5:2 diet that some vets follow.

@@gresau1 Completely normal. They pump you ful of fluids while you are in the hospital which accounts for the temporary weigh gain. Regarding the bowels slowing down...that is due to the pain meds, anesthesia & undergoing a traumatic procedure. I regularly took milk of magnesia to get my system moving. You are doing great! Not to worry, you are going to see a loss soon!

@@butterfly23 Committment, Tenacity, Discipline, Attitude, Fortitude
The PreOp diet requirements help instill the above values prior to surgery so that those values continue PostOP.

Yes, my surgeon & nutritionist both said that Protein Shakes do double duty: Protein & Fluid intake.

Sometimes I get that feeling...but then I check myself. Not everyone has received the kind of PreOp education I received. Not everyone reached rock bottom b4 having surgery. Not everyone has the time or the skills to engage in WLS research...ETC.
I am constantly reminding myself that even though we may have WLS in common, we are all on different journeys.
I have also learned about myself that it is fruitless for me to reply on certain topics. Certain topics really irritate me...so rather than post something that could be construed as less than helpful, I try to be disciplined enough to skip that post.

@@jenbaby75 Thx for posting . I noticed that you are taking the multi with the Calcium. Does your multi include Iron? Are you taking them at the same time? If so, iron. & calcium cannot be taken within 2 hours of each other. Just thought I'd let you know

@@lclemur Glad you cleared that up Just another piece of advice regarding food choices and adjusting to your new lifestyle: Pay attention to successful veterans (I.e folks who have met or exceeded goal and have kept the weight off) and figure out what they have in common (I.e the how's, why's, what's they do when it comes to food/exercise/protein/calories/ATTITUDE).
Then emulate them.

Definitely interceding on your behalf! God is good...even when I was riding the crazy emotional roller coaster ride of this journey. Be patient, it'll happen
