    Getting ready to be sleeved

    Good Luck, praying for you!
  2. Honestly...if I had it to do all over again..the same age. I don't know about some people, but I had to go through some stuff before I reached the decision that WLS was needed to extend my life. I wouldn't change any part of my journey to WLS because those experiences have made me the person I am today. Regarding my kids...I'm torn. On the one hand I don't want my kids to experience the emotional & physical pain I went through being obese. On the other hand those same experiences will make them stronger and more ready to have surgery and handle the consequences of PostOp. I guess it comes down to...I'd support whatever decision makes them happy.

    Stall posts in PostOp forum

There have been a large number of "stall" posts in the PostOp forum. I completely respect folks concerns about stalls & the need for advice & support. I've browsed the stall section myself and have found solace that others are going through the same thing. Just wondering why these posts are not made and/or moderated to the "stall" forum...as it seems like 1 in 5 posts are about stalls.

    I've Been Erased

Alex...same thing has happened to me
  9. Before surgery, I would play the numbers game of how many calories consumed vs. How many I burned during exercise, to determine how many more I could consume after exercising, etc. None of it has the same weight after surgery. I'm lucky if I can consume 800 calories a day. I exercise 4-5xs a week for 45min-hr. My weight loss stops when I haven't consumed enough calories...so now I make sure to eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks and I try to change my mentality about calories out vs. Calories in.

    Passed out cold last night.

Walgreens has the Freestyle Light checker for $19.99. My son was diagnosed at age 10 and is Type 1. So, we're well versed on low/high blood sugar symptoms.

    Reiki anyone?

Interesting. I've personally never tried it...but I would have no trouble trying it, just like I'd have no problem trying acupuncture. As a matter of fact, an Asian healing store just opened near my home. I'm looking forward to checking it out
  13. Two of my friends had bypass, and both have lost over 100 pounds and have kpt the weight off. One of them is actually featured on a huge billboard as advertising for her surgeon. Please don't be bummed. You have a viable option

    Anyone else in a stall?

Seems like I have more stalls than actual weight loss...LOL. Seriously, stalls just plain suck and happen more than once to everyone. Stay on your plan, practice patience, and the weight will come off.
  15. You are way ahead of the game! In my opinion, If you can lose 40 pounds prior, you have the fortitude to handle the PreOp stage. I lost 60 pounds prior to surgery by following my nutritionists advice. I found the idea of the PreOp phase more daunting then the actual diet itself. Also, the PreOp diet, besides shrinking your liver, helps prepare you for the PostOp stages. So again, I think you will be fine, but please make sure you do all of your homework and truly understand how your relationship with food will change after surgery. IMO, The less mentally prepared = more anxiety and regret after.

    Passed out cold last night.

Did they check your blood sugar? Just wondering as your symptoms are indicative of a sudden decrease in blood sugar. To be sure, I would purchase a $20 glucose checker from the local drug store, and check before getting out of bed in the morning, and periodically throughout the day. Make sure you document your results to share with your Dr. Especially If you see it fluctuating. Fasting blood sugars should be between 70-100. Two hours after eating levels should be: Less than 140 age 50 or less, less than 150 age 50-60, less than 160 age 60 or over. Random testing in general 80-120. Again, it's the lows or sudden drops you should be most concerned about as these can make you pass out and can be dangerous.

    What Are You Reading?

Wow! So happy I found this thread. I absolutely love to read...the main reason I became a librarian . I read a lot of children's books, young adult books, paranormal & historical romance, fantasy, just about anything that's been recommended. My all time favorite book is "It" by Stephen King and The Stand is a very close second, followed by Salems Lot. I'm currently reading the last of the Hollows series w/ Rachel Morgan...titled The Witch with No Name. My favorite children's book to read to children is Creepy Carrots. My favorite YA books are Monstrumologist, and the entire 7th Son series. I'm going to keep checking this thread because of all the great recommendations. Now I want to hurry up with this book and start something new! Thanks everyone! And happy reading!

    The guilt of not telling

He lives in a different state, so no he hasn't seen me eat. I have told him how much weight Ive lost and he told me congratulations. He asked how I lost the weight and I said by following a high protein/low carb diet with lots of exercise. Then the conversation shifted to something else. About the eating thing...I've noticed that people don't notice what I'm eating. I tend to be last when getting my food and because it takes me so long to eat a few ounces, I tend to finish when they are finishing.

    What irritates your sleeve?

I love this protein chocolate milk they sell in the store here. Drank 8 ounces of it, and totally paid with nausea and diarrhea...didn't actually throw up though. so now I just put a 1/4cup in my decaf chai or cinnamon tea. Tastes like a Mexican hot chocolate! And no nasty side effects

    Caffeine?

My Dr. & nutritionist told me "No caffeine starting now, because you can't have it after surgery...ever" This was said during the 1st required nutrition class and at each subsequent class. At the time I drank at least 3 cups a day, but chose to quit after that 1st class. That was 7 months ago, and now I can't stand the smell of coffee and don't miss it

How did you determine your "goal weight"?

I'm a 5'10 female and my goal weight is 170. The Dr. didn't set that goal, I did after he asked at which weight was I most happy & healthy and that number popped up in my head. It is also at the high end of a normal bmi for me. Edited to add: I'm 28 pounds from my goal and am losing pretty slowly, but I'm determined to stick with my original goal.

    The guilt of not telling

This is tough. I'm not going to tell you what to do. I'm just going to tell you that I understand and sympathize with you about this particular predicament. I chose not to tell my dad about this surgery, He knew about all of the others, but something told me to keep this one to myself. A big part of it was that my parents are getting older and I didn't want to add onto their stress levels. The other part was completely selfish as my dad has a tendency to be judgemental and I honestly didn't want to hear his opinion. Now that I am 9 weeks Post Op, I feel better about my decision everyday. Maybe you will too.
