    I am 4 days post-op

I am 7 days post op & get what you are saying. It is especially hard around the holidays. What helps me when my kids are eating stuff in my presence: sip on a Protein shake or eat some protein enriched pudding, or a delicious flavor of Greek yogurt (banana cream). This is what I did in the movie theater yesterday and it totally helped. It also helps to get out of the house and walk multiple times a day, but especially when you are feeling a little down. The cool air hits, adrenaline kicks in a bit, and before you know it, you just feel better. Hang in there!
  3. Do what you feel is best. I am a private person, and was raised not to tell everyone my business. I wouldn't even consider telling my co-workers. All they knew was that I was having a procedure...and the only reason they knew that was because I was taking 4 days off of work before the two week Xmas break. Only my best friend, husband and children know and I am happy with that. I lost 50+ pounds prior to the surgery and received tons of questions about how I was losing weight. The answer was very honest and simple, "I ate less than 1200 calories per day and exercised on a regular basis." Can you believe people were actually disappointed with my answer? They are looking for magic...when there is none, even with WLS.
  4. I'm 7 days out and I'm feeling awesome!!! You are going to do just fine! Your surgeons know what they are doing. Place your trust in God and think about positive things! You've got this!!!!! See you on the other side!

    Yoga's harder than it looks!

"Hippy, Dippy"?? Wow? Really? Uhh, what does being a hippy have to do with yoga? It never ceases to amaze me how un enlightened/judge mental (I.e categorizing) folks choose to be... Btw, this ex all American athlete has been practicing yoga since her Olympic gold medal winning coach required it of all of her athletes 20+ years ago....builds strength through stillness, balance, flexibility and strengthens the mind. Sometimes we've really got to get out of our own way when it comes to learning and/or trying something new. Life is too short to live it categorizing.

So THIS happened the other day. Me and my big mouth.

Call me nieve, but I am always shocked that someone could say something so mean as that woman. I would have stood there, my mouth gaping, and probably said, "Really?...you really just said that?" Then walked off. Reminds me of that movie Mean Girls and my high school experience, Shame on her.
  7. I began this journey back in June...that was my orientation class and first nutrition meeting. I came home and shared the information and all the info I've learned for the past 6 months. My surgery was just a few days ago. However I lost 50+ lbs before the surgery and my husband lost over 40+ pounds. He is still losing and has his own goals. But his thought process was that we would do this together even though he doesn't need the actual surgery. I am very proud to have such support

I had gas pain the first few days, but it's gotten better. There are times I feel a spasm after swallowing, but it goes away pretty quickly. I would say that I have never burped so much in my life!!!

  9. What is pain management like afterwards? Will I wake up with a binder on my stomach? What about constipation issues afterwards? How is nausea during and after surgery handled? What is the typical length of stay? Can I have printouts of the post op diet and subsequent stages so I can go shopping now? Hope this helps

    Smoking- passive

My mom was/is a serious smoker...all through my childhood. Fast forward and I am in my 40s, never smoked, but the Preadmissions people asked if I had been around 2nd hand smoke. I laughed and said, well, as a kid " the lady didn't laugh, she sent me down to get a chest X-ray, which kind of freaked me out. Needless to say, the xray came back fine, and I received my surgery a week later
  11. My nutritionist said stick with items that are less than 15 grams of carbs, 5 grams of sugar, and 5 grams of fat. Like someone else mentioned: choose places that have printed or internet nutritional value. Know what you are going to order before you go...that way you are not tempted. Besides being on this WLS journey, my son is a type 1 diabetic. We have not changed our super busy lifestyle because of it. We've learned to work within the system by knowing the nutritional values of the things he likes most and the places he likes to eat. No one likes to feel deprived, which is how he and I would feel if I was told I couldn't eat out or touch fast food.

    Should I be proud or?

Why ask a bunch of strangers if you should be proud? This is about you. Would you have been happy with this weight loss prior to surgery? I bet, yes. Why wouldn't you be proud of your accomplishments after the fact? No one can give you permission to feel proud of yourself. You feel proud because you did it and are continuing to do it. Own it & be kind to yourself.

    Cream of Wheat nightmare! Help!

And strangely enough...my craving for cream of wheat just disappeared!!!
  14. I chose not to use a weight loss ticker, because I am not fond of weighing myself often in real life. I personally do not like the constant reminder/visual while I am on here. I have lost quite a bit of weight and feel great, but I sometimes get sick of the numbers and/or the focus on numbers. This is just me personally ...other folks tickers don't bother me at all.

    Thyroidectomy after VSG

I had a total thyroidectomy 4 yrs ago due to cancer...which put my WLS on hold. I lost 54 lbs in the past 6 months on my own. I just got the gastric sleeve 4 days ago. My endo's philosophy is if you can lose weight before, you can lose weight after...just a matter of adjusting meds and balancing lifestyle changes. Also there is a patient in my support group who got the sleeve first, then total thyroidectomy and still lost over a 100 lbs. her advice was to stick with the plan and it will work.

    One Week Post OP

I'm so sorry that you are in pain. I am 4 days out and while I do experience spasms every now and again, I just breathe my way through it and it's gone before you know it. Also, I noticed I get spasms if I drink too much, too fast. My surgeon automatically puts all his patients on nexium to control acid production, so haven't had any problems with that. Hope you feel better!
  17. I began walking shortly after surgery. Definitely helps you to wake up, get the gases moving, and the yucky anesthesia out. I just had my sleeve on the 16th, so I am gradually walking more and more. Prior to surgery I walked and/or hiked regularly. As far as driving goes, my surgeon said that as long as I am taking a controlled substance for pain, I am not allowed to drive. I still take my pain meds... Once in the middle of the afternoon and again before bedtime. definitely helps with the soreness, plus I'm in no hurry to jump into all of my responsibilities just yet.
  18. Hello! I was sleeved on the 16th and have very similar soreness, but in my right side. It's getting better day by day .

Please delete a thread I started

Why would you want to delete a thread, where many of us took the time to provide, what they probably feel, are heartfelt responses? I'm sure you are not the only one who has those same concerns. Wouldn't it help others through some of the same thinking? I just don't understand...smh

  23. @@JerseyCityGal, you nailed it. The OP titled her post...Gettin real, so I thought she wanted "real" responses. It does seem like the only respnses she "likes" are those that go along with what she wants to hear. One cannot learn that way. I joined this forum so that I could learn and hear different perspectives....without the sugar coating
  24. Day before surgery! Clear liquids only, and bullion tastes way better than broth.
