    @@Joy889 Not sure what your surgeon's post op instructions are, but maybe consider going back to just full liquids for a day. That's what I did and I felt tons better. Also, I think that in my case, I had too much dairy too close together. I no longer eat the pudding or the cream of soup and haven't had any more problems. Hope this helps
  2. @rjs/beginning With all due respect, we will have to agree to disagree. Complication posts cause me to unnecessarily worry about something that while horrible, may only affect 1% of the population. Kind of like being pregnant and then everyone and their mama feels it's okay to share labor horror stories or horrible complications. For me personally, it teaches me nothing but paranoia. I am aware of the things to watch out for, as my surgeon gave me a list. I know my body enough to know when things require a trip to the emergency. Complication/issue posts get waaaay more views than other types of posts...so they are helping someone. Just not me.

    Dumping syndrome any advice? ?

    Yep! I had surgery too on the 16th. On the 5th day, I was feeling great. So I decided to get all my protein and liquids in come heck or high water. So I did, I had 2 protein shakes, yogurt with protein, cream of soup, then finished the night off with pudding & protein. About 5-7 minutes after eating the pudding, I felt nauseous & clammy. Then my stomach started cramping and I sat on the toilet not knowing which way it was going to come. It was the same bodily reaction I get when food poisoned. After having diarrhea for 20 minutes, the nausea went away, but I felt like crap for a day. Since then I've learned to slow down & not force things just because I'm feeling good. Haven't had the problem since.

    Don't you love it when connections like the one you experienced , are made? Thank you for sharing that with me. I can't begin to describe how connected and peaceful I feel when doing yoga or hiking/taking a nature walk. It is a beautiful feeling that I wish everyone could experience. Namaste

    End of week 3 and frustrated

    Yes, step away fom the scale . You are doing just fine. Your body needs to adjust as surgery has thrown it into disarray ! I lost quite a bit preop and am now 2 weeks post op. I don't expect to lose very quickly and am now only weighing myself once a week...
  8. Just going to add my 2 cents for what it's worth . I personally do not care to read about other people's troubles. I've had 14 surgeries, starting when I was 15 for various kinds of things. Each one of those surgeries came with risks. I'm Definitely a surgery veteran and it's made me one tough cookie. Symptoms are relative. One person may feel like they are in serious pain and some may feel like that same pain is a 2 out of 10. I choose not to read posts of complications or complaints because I choose not to worry. Although I sometimes make exceptions just to wish someone well. If something doesn't feel right, I'll call my surgeon and go from there.
  9. I just bought one of those hand blenders (on sale JcPenneys) and have been researching various bariatric friendly soups. I am in the full liquid stage now but can't wait to pulverize stuff in the next phase which begins next Wednesday

  11. i never realized how conservative/strict my team's guidelines were until reading others posts. I guess it's just a product of it being a major military base...Anywhooo...my team does not allow for any alcohol ever. It was made clear by the nutritionist, surgeon, psychologist, endocrinologist, and various nurses in my program. They all cited research studies that showed a link between alcoholism and Wls. Being a librarian...I tend to take research pretty seriously even though there are always outliers.

  13. I wear a Garmin Vivofit....the one that puts a red bar on your wrist tolet you know to get up and get moving. It is way more accurate than a waist pedometer. I tested whether the pedometer would record steps with arm movements by sta ding on the elliptical and just doing the arm movements and...NOPE. The vivofit did not register any steps. Then I checked it again after a 60 minute complete elliptical workout and the number of steps almost matched the steps/distance on the elliptical. So I'm definitely sold on garmin's vivofit
  14. I completely agree with @lipsticklady. It was the judgemental way the Op presented the topic & the few judgemental posts afterwards. After reading the Ops 2nd post, I must conclude that some people are just determined to prejudge others...no matter what anyone else says. Unless you walk around interviewing "skinny" folks in the waiting room....all of this is either curious speculation or judgement...and as someone said above, "Why do you care?"
  15. My surgery was 35-40 minutes. Husband said he just used the restroom, sat down, fired up his computer, and surgery was done.

    Hit a stonewall

    The rate of cancellation isn't that high through my military program. They have a rule that if you cancx your surgery date twice....it will not happen through their facility period.My friend cancx back in October. She tried to reschedule and now she is on an indefinite waiting list. Needless to say, she completely regrets succumbing to nerves...especially as she sees my almost 70 lb weight loss. My experience involves my military base. I'm sure it is much more flexible with self pay.

  19. Ugh...Okay....how do you know someone else's Before, During and After WLS journey? There are some of us on here and I'm sure on other boards who chose to change their lifestyle BEFORE weight loss surgery. I had to attend a seminar and 3 nutrition meetings with a nutritionist. I learned all kinds of facts and tidbits about being obese that stuck with me. So much so that I made a deal with myself....If I could make some changes now...I could get this surgery. I had my surgery on 12/16/14 after losing 50+ lbs on my own....at a bmi of 32. So I guess I'm one of those "people" who took advantage of WLS. H*** yes, sure did. You are not aware of my struggle with obesity since I was a kid. You are not aware of any part of my journey. But I am. i will lose the 42 lbs I have to reach goal and I will not gain it back. Guess I need to remind some...Weight Loss Surgery is a TOOL. And please remember....Everyone is on their own journey...RESPECT them by giving the benefit of doubt.

    Is TOO much protein a concern?

    According to my surgeon & nutritionist instructions, the human body can only absorb 20g of protein at a time. Anything it cannot consume will exit through bodily waste. So, my orders are to consume protein throughout the day. I typically nurse a protein shake all morning, isopure all afternoon, and Greek yogurt or protein enfused pudding in the evening. Gives me 60g or more by bedtime. Btw, I'm 8 days post op . Hope this helps

    I second the recliner. I am 7 days post op and slept in the recliner at the hospital, then the recliner at home the first few days.

    Blah...

    I am 7 days post op & have blah moments too. I am saying moments because sometimes you have to pick yourself up, drink, and then move. Staying hydrated and moving your body will make you feel better. Stepping outside for a few minutes and breathing fresh air will lift your spirits. Staying in bed all day will prolong that blah feeling. You can do it! Upsy daisy!!!
  23. Ugh...my daughter is in her Freshman year of college and is getting her BSN....so that she can be an RN & deal with suspicious and rude people. Yes, I think the suggestion of writing everything & everyone down is rude and begins a negative relationship with your medical staff. Isn't it exhausting to carry previous negative experiences into new experiences?

    Dull Pain and Fullness

    Have you tried milk of magnesia? It will help clear you out in a gentle way . Also, walking a lot has really helped clear up that feeling.
