    Need advice

I don't play when it comes to my money & would be livid with myself for jumping the gun and paying when I just could have waited...Seriously, you've waited this long, what's a few more months or even a year?
  2. Hubby and I have been married for 15 years. We don't really get each other anything or go out. Instead, my husband always buys something cute for our daughters and I buy our son something cool. This year, my husband put together a fabulous protein, healthy, valentine care package for our oldest daughter who is away at college. She's concerned about the "freshman 15" so he wanted to give her healthy snacks to try

    Tools, Hacks and Tips

Love the idea of the Colorado climbing trip! Climbing Mt. Blanca is on my bucket list. Anywhooo, not sure if you've climbed/hiked at that elevation before, but give yourself 2-3 days of acclimation time before taking on a strenuous Colorado hike . Trust me!

    Calorie Intake!

I also had surgery 12/16. Since my surgery date I have lost 24 pounds. Not sure why you are thinking you should have lost more at this point... As long as I know I'm following my dr/nutritionists plan, then I don't worry about the numbers. Btw, if it helps I consume between 700-800 calories per day, get between 60-70g of protein, and exercise for 45-60 min. a day.

  6. Until your mindset has changed to,"I'm getting this done for me and come what may, I will not regret it."...I recommend that you: Learn more about the disease obesity, Learn more about the surgery, and most importantly Learn more about yourself... I've seen too many mentally unprepared people on this site who express regret at the first issue that arises...

5'9 women what was your goal weight?

While this thread gives folks a range of possible goals for tall women, it doesn't take into account body frame and muscle mass. I'm 5'10, my goal weight is 170. I have a large bone structure and also can carry a lot of muscle mass depending on how much exercise/weight lifting I am getting. Anything less than 170 and my ribs begin to show...not sexy.
  8. I think it's kind of like being pregnant and everyone and their mother thinks it's ok to share their own labor stories, Unsolicited advice & even touch your belly. I admit that all of the attention has become tedious. I started this lifestyle change long before I even had surgery..so you'd think my coworkers would be used to it by now. Nope, I'm still constabtly asked, "What I am doing." I don't share my personal life with my coworkers. So I always state the same response, "I follow a high Protein, low carb. Lots of exercise diet."
  9. Problem: milk based Protein caused issues Solution: jump ahead to pureeds I had this particular problem because I too am lactose intolerant. Here's how it worked for me: Problem: lactose intolerant Solution: googled lactose free protein products, searched on this board for folks with identical problem, looked up recipes for lactose free shakes using soy, almond, or other lactose free solutions...still followed nutritionist/surgeons plan Also regarding the whole moderation and why folks got the surgery theory mentioned in a previous post...Not all of us have that same philosophy. I recognize that I have a serious problem with carbs. I can't eat a slice of pizza, have a sugary drink, or eat a few crackers without craving carbs for the rest of the day and binge eating all day. I'm not going back to that cycle.
  10. @@greeneyes Love your response! #StopNegotiatingSuckItUp. Definitely my personal motto Someone needs to design a shirt
  11. While I agree with @@samuelsmom that there seem to be more similarities than differences amongst plans...however on this site and many others...folks tend to do whatever they want anyways rather than follow the plan the way the surgeon intended...which results in a slippery slope and lots of subsequent posts of I'm failing, I've gained weight, Help, etc. Which leads me to agree that at some point one must accept responsibility for ones actions including how one chooses to follow their surgeons plan...so yes, some serious sucking it up has to occur to be successful on this journey. No matter what stage you are in...there will be challenges along the way. Expect them, suck it up, and keep pressing toward your goals.

    Simply not hungry

I make all kinds of stuff from World According to Eggface blog (Google it). Everything I've made from her blog has been great and easily made and fit whatever stage I was in at the time. Take a look at "day in my pouch" posts to get an idea of how varied her diet after WLS is. I'm 7 weeks out and get all my protein from food, not shakes...which equals success for me
  13. I also had a low BMI (31) prior to surgery...so I can completely relate to your post. if I saw a 2 pound loss, I'd definitely think my scale was broken and would make my husband weigh himself to see if the scale was still working! I've only seen increments of +/- 1 pound losses since surgery so any loss larger than that would shock me!
  14. I was told by my surgeons to consider my sleeve as a baby's tummy. Would we give a baby hot sauce? Or would we already know that those types of spices would cause our baby some type of stomach discomfort? My program is very conservative compared to some others I've read on boards. They are very concerned about acid, ulcers, reflux, not to mention the nutritional value of the food we put in our bodies. So I'm told no to spicy food for the first year or possibly indefinitely. And my favorite food is Indian...sigh.
  15. After 1 week PostOp, I was walking 2-3 miles daily. BUT, I was walking/hiking 5-6 miles 4-5xs/week for months prior to surgery. So as you can imagine, I was going stir crazy immediately after surgery just sitting/laying around. Like others have mentioned: how your body feels is important, but it's also important to consider what your exercise level was prior to surgery. If it was nonexistent, be conservative and increase distance & duration slowly. If you were very active, your body will let you be more aggressive

Do you feel like a failure?

Obesity is a multifaceted disease. It is a disease that is metabolic, physical, mental, emotional, and hereditary. Which is why the pre process includes so many hoops (psych, PCP, nutritionist, failed weight loss attempts, surgeons, family med history, etc.) Science and the medical field and most insurances now recognize and understand this based on valid long term studies. And agree that WLS, as a TOOL, is the most effective solution for people who have had a BMI greater than 35 at any point in their lives, keep the weight off for the long term. So why do we question seeking medical help for a disease? Would you not get medical help for blood pressure, diabetes, cancer or smoking? Would we think folks who did get medical help for these ailments are "Cheaters who took the easy way out?" That would be absurd. Just as absurd as thinking you've failed for considering WLS.

    Feeling so despondent

I'm sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. I hope you plan to see a psychiatrist also besides the MD. In the meantime, try to fight the negative self talk and live in the present. You were cleared, you've had the surgery, what's done is done...Embrace it. Rather than overwhelming yourself with too much thinking, keep it simple. Take it one good decision at a time (I.e drinking water, getting some protein in, walking for10 minutes). Everything is going to be okay,
  19. I've gobe 2 days withou a protein shake but have still reached my protein goals!!! It can be done!

Excellent...Better to get your protein in real food then drinks. for the first part it is important to use them. But progress dictates you get it out of food intake...Good for you hun! :)

    Is Surgery Just For Me?

Aside from what is currently happening in your body because of the excess weight or what malady could appear in the future..,WLS is a very personal decision. I was at the point where I felt it was the only solution that would help me keep the weight off for good. It took me decades to get to that place. My decision was based on my emotional and physical well being...not just because of a number on the scale. Once I embraced that, no one could tell me differently and I didn't 2nd guess my decision. 7 weeks out and I'm at my lowest weight since college, without any health issues, and looking and feeling great!

    Will I only loose 10kg!

I was 31 bmi the day I had surgery. I also lost 60 pounds prior to surgery. I'm now down a total of 83 pounds. And am 33 pounds from my goal weight. I didn't even know there were calculators for this. I plugged my numbers in to the calculator @@VSGAnn2014 provided (thx it was fun) and I've already surpassed the 50 % chance of losing 66 pounds mark!!! So while the calculators are interesting...you simply can't calculate human potential.
  23. And you are not a failure! The only way you'd be a failure is if you gave up & continued down this path that made you gain the 30 pounds. You've already started to take back control by posting here. Keep it going by contacting your Bari center. Take care!

    Stalled so soon

Wow 30 pounds! That's great! I was sleeved 12/16, so it's been 7 weeks and I've lost 21 pounds. I stalled at week 2 and week 4 post op. It's just how my body is reacting to all these changes.
