    DISGUSTED WITH FOOD

I have trouble with meat too and I'm 8 weeks out. I can only eat a 1/4 of a turkey patty and I'm done. But give me turkey chili and I can eat 4 ounces no problem. i don't really mind about the meat thing because it just confirms that I actually had surgery done. I actually questioned whether my surgeon did anything because I could drink without any problems after surgery and felt zero restriction while drinking.
  2. Hang in there NPRCowboy! Sounds like you are doing a lot better now than a month ago. Stay positive and wish you and your wife the best.

    Life after.....

I was a little nervous to go out to eat. Just wasn't sure how it was going to be, what I would eat, how much I would eat, etc. The first time was about a week after surgery. I ordered chicken soup strained at Ruby Tuesday. The soup was brought out with everyone else's entrees. And it was delicious! Since then, it's been a piece of cake. I'm 8 weeks out and went to La Madelines yesterday and had the delicious tomato soup and a little bit of the quiche Lorraine filling. Again, no problems and it is so nice to enjoy the company more so than the food.

Got a little snacky. Need recipes1

I found these crunchy edamame in the back of TJ Maxx . They totally help when I'm craving salty/crunchy. For sweet, I like to eat 3 tbs of trail mix...the raisins and yogurt chips satisfy that craving. The only thing is, I limit myself to two snack portions a day. I don't like the feeling of grazing all day. I also make quite a few recipes from World According to Eggface and freeze them into small portions. Definitely makes packing my work lunch easy. ETA: another idea for sweet, Lenny & Larrys Complete Protein cookie. But, only like 1/4 portion because while vegan, have a good amount of calories. My favorites are pumpkin spice and Peanut Butter and I gett them at Vitamin shoppe.

Oh my...How do you know this? Why would you even say this? We're on the Internet. You have no clue what anyone has or has not done. You are making some strange allegations and assumptions. Basically, we must take folks at their word otherwise What's The Point ?!?! of support boards. I'm going to let this thread go, because quite frankly, it's gotten totally weird.

    Encouragement needed struggling

@@svelija I get what you are saying. It does become tedious and boring eating the same things day after day. So why not look up a few bariatric friendly recipes and give them a try? I found the recipes in the blog World According to Eggface to be really good. Also, there are a number of recipes on Pinterest that work for this phase. You can also try just about any canned soup and strain it. Another tip is to make your cream of soups with fat free milk or protein enhanced milk...makes them taste better and you stay fuller longer. Hang in there! Just a few more days! ETA: if dairy is a problem can still use soy or almond milk in creamed soups.

    HELP!

I too have a serious sweet tooth which I've learned is really an addiction to carbs. So for me, I had to tell myself that I can't handle "just a little" or "moderation" when it comes to chocolate and candy. Those are things I will not have again. I know myself and once I have one Hershey's kiss, I will rationalize for more until I've eaten to the point of guilt. It's a horrible cycle. The good news is that I no longer crave these things either.

Cheated every day of 7 day pre op diet

@ I completely agree with @@Kindle I chose to embrace the bariatric lifestyle 6 months prior to having surgery, then followed my surgeon's required 2 week PreOp liquid diet, then the 2 week PostOp liquid diet then the rest of the PostOp stages without cheating. So while I do not think I am perfect, and yes, realize that I have issues that let my weight get out of control in the first place, I also believe that this journey sometimes requires personal responsibility and tough love. I wouldn't have become an all American athlete without it. And I certainly wouldn't be where I am today with my degrees, my job, or my health without someone telling me straight up to take responsibility for my actions at some point in my life. So I have no problem paying my version of tough love forward in the hopes that it helps someone else.

    Clock ticking on making goal?

I think where we go wrong is by setting some type of deadline or projected timeframe on our own bodies. This issue follows along the same mindset some have of stalling. I too lose at a slower rate than many, but, I'm also sure that someone looking at my stats would think otherwise. Its all relative, because our journeys are so personal and different. I consciously decided early on that I wouldn't put stipulations on my journey because I don't want to set myself up for failure. I am choosing to believe that my body knows what it's doing and that as long as I follow the plan...things will work out.

  19. Best thing to do is contact your surgeon tomorrow for clarification. As Babbs said we all follow different instructions and don't want to give you advice that may differ from your surgeons plan. This is a small hump and can be solved with a phone call
  20. Only my husband and children know. I'm a very private person and wouldn't dream of telling others. Plus I've noticed from a few others who have had weight loss surgery at my work, who decided to make their surgeries known, that people watch their eating like a hawk. Ready to pounce and call "foul" when something "bad" is eaten. Then these same people they trusted by telling them of the WLS begin to judge them and make negative comments. My conclusions are...it's not a good idea to tell folks if you plan to eat whatever in moderation after WLS, because not only will you be judged but so will weight loss surgeries in general.
  21. I'm confused. Did your surgeon provide you with materials that outlined a PostOp plan? I knew prior to surgery that afterwards my diet would follow phases. Each phase lasted 2 weeks and my plan included sample menus. Phase 1=liquid diet (Protein shakes, yogurt, Soups, etc.), Phase 2=mushies/pureeds, Phase 3=soft foods, Phase 4=Whatever works (protein first) Phase 1 & 2 can get boring, so finding bariatric friendly recipes can liven things up greatly, like the blog World According to Eggface

Cheated every day of 7 day pre op diet

It doesn't sound like you want it enough. If so, then fight for it by ceasing the self sabotage and complying. Some people think the PreOp stage was the most challenging. Personally, after surgery has been emotionally harder for me...because there is no loop hole or going back. So if you can't handle PreOp...reconsider and truly decide if surgery is right for you.

    Sleeve vs. band

I chose the sleeve because the band is no longer being performed on military bases due to the high rate of complications. Bypass was an option, but the malabsorption caused me concern.
