You and I are very close in numbers, and the same height. I start my first of six nutrition class on October 6. I have to lose 25lbs. And be at least under or at a bmi of 60. My insurance requires me to have a psych eval and 6 months supervised diet. My psych evaluation is 10/10. My dr advised to start a low carb high protein diet now. Not sure how long they require for you to be smoke free as I am a non-smoker. -
362.6 that's I think down 6.5 lbs

Did anyone have to lose a LOT of weight to qualify for surgery?
emilees_mom replied to MaureenVA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is exactly what my dr said to me. And you are right sometimes extra heavy people lose Water weight pretty quick. But the 6 month supervised diet coincides so I figure I have 6 months to lose 25 lbs at least. Now don't get me wrong I am ready for this journey so I immediately came home and jumped in with both feet, and in a week and a half I am already down almost 7 lbs. so I just figure I don't have to race to the 25 lb finish line, gives me something to work on during the 6 months of nutrition classes that is required. The more the merrier as long as it keeps going down!! -

After getting home the other day and thinking over the consultation and being happy that the ball is rolling finally, it dawned on me that there was no mention of the start of the nutritional classes that I have to do for the six months. I was scheduled to go back in five weeks to check my weight and that is all. So I called to confirm if maybe I had to lose that 25 lbs first before actually being accepted into the program. Thank goodness I called because it was an oversight and would have driven 2 hours to just weigh in and it not count for my 1st/6 month. That would have been a bummer. So class and weigh in is now scheduled together. Classes will be the first Monday of the month starting October 6th. Also went ahead and got my psych eval scheduled to get it out of the way. It is scheduled for October 8th. Don't want any small things to get in the way in the end to hold up my surgery!! -
6 month medically supervised diet policy changes?!?!?!?!
emilees_mom replied to S(he) be(lie)ve(d)'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Triplenmomma sounds like you and I will be going through this journey at the same time. I just had my first consultation. Need to lose 25 lbs to get my bmi down. Have to do 6 months supervised weight loss and have to have a psych eval. Had the rest of my initial labs drawn the day of my consultation. My first weigh in/class is set for October 6th and my psych eval is October 8th. Trying to get any and all appointments out if the way early on. Don't want any last minute small things to hold me back at the end!! Good luck on your journey and happy losing! Teri -

Had my consultation today. I have to lose 25 lbs to get my bmi down. But I knew that was going to happen. Had labs drawn today that my pcp didn't have. Overall a good appointment I think just need to have a psych eval and 6 months medical supervised diet. I am ready to get this started. Go back in 5 weeks to see what the scales say. I can do this one day at a time. -

I am also new to this journey. I have discussed it with my pcp. She has ordered all the lab work and is sending the referral for the sleep study. I have my consultation with the surgeons office to get the ball rolling and find out my requirements, on the 9th. Very excited to get on with the next steps. My starting weight is a very miserable 371 pounds, and overall am pretty healthy although I did just have to start on a low dose of bp meds. I have very bad knees and ankles. Will be glad to lose the weight to ease the pain and pressure on them. Good luck with your journey ahead! -
Starting weight 371 Goal for Halloween 350 I have not even had a consultation yet. My appointment is on Tuesday. But I know I will need to lose prior.

I have not had surgery nor even been to my consultation yet, but know I will need to be losing prior so count me in.

Total Newbie- Looking for fellow newbies!

I am very new to this as well. I actually am just starting primary care with a new PCP. Spoke to her on my first visit that I wanted to have bariatric surgery and she thought it was a very good idea for me. Since I was establishing care, she went ahead and had labs drawn. My mother just had lapband surgery at the end of July. I personally didn't feel like she was given enough information for post op. So I started making phone calls for myself. After a few phone calls I found a hospital not to far away that accepted my insurance. They said I would need to attend a seminar to get the ball rolling or they had videos and a quiz online I could take. I opted to watch them online. Someone called from the bariatric center the next day to schedule an appt. I don't see my PCP again until 9/2 so I scheduled with bariatric a on 9/9 so that I can get the letter of recommendation to take with me. I am really looking forward to getting the balls rolling to begin the journey to the new me. I have been heavy all my life and am ready for a change in the right direction. I have been lurking on this site for months and you are all a very positive and supportive group of people!! Teri
