The beginning
I go for my appointment with the psychologist today. I am a little nervous, but have been doing lots of "me-search", so I think I am ready. Who knew I began checking into having surgery almost six months ago that I had so much to learn about myself? I am far from perfect and still find the urge to indulge too much to resist some days, but I know that will get easier as I learn other ways to "fix" all the pain inside. Here's to the bright, healthy future...

Is it do able all by myself?
Maybe you could find a band buddy? You know, someone who has already been through or is going through the same procedure you are who could not only be emotionally supportive, but lend a hand with your daughter. There are state forums on here, but if yours is as inactive as the one for my state, that probably woni't be much help. Does your doctor/hospital offer a support group? Or maybe they could help you find someone. Good luck to you!!

umm... $5000 dr. fee????????
My program fee was $500, but that included meeting with the nutritionist, a customized exercise plan, and psychology consultation. There is another hospital in the area that doesn't charge the fee, but you have to pay for all the other stuff, so I thought it all evened out in the end.

Swimming and Excess Skin

Keeping it a secret?
I originally posted that I was keeping it secret. Now that I am in the process of getting approval, I am having to leave work or miss days entirely for testing, classes, etc., so it has become harder to keep it to myself. I have even discussed it with a couple of people here who are also overweight and it turns out, all 3 of them have been doing research on the surgery. So am I going around proudly waving a banner that this is the choice I have made for myself? Not hardly. But I am sharing my story more than I thought I would.

Staying in Hospital
My surgeon only requires you to stay if you have afternoon surgery. If you have morning surgery, you go home. I think I would rather stay though.

Starting the process
Had my first appointment this week at the doctor's. I go for my first nutrition class tomorrow. According to the BMI charts, I need to lose about 160 lbs. (gosh that looks aweful in writing!) I am 5'10" and currently weight 328.5. My BMI is 47  with no comobidities. I read that my insurance is actually one of the easier ones to get approval from, but when I went in, the nurse said they used to be one of the more difficult ones. That kinda scared me a little. Hoping she was wrong!!! Good luck everyone!!

Does your DH or SO know how much you weigh?
He didn't until about a week ago when I broke down in a fit of crying and told him in the midst of a conversation about surgery.

Dr L. Machado/sacbariatrics/program fee?
The Dr. I am considering charges $500, but that includes meetings with the nutrutionist and what they call a nurse psychologist, as well as co-pay for office visits.

Why are YOU Fat?
You sound like my husband! i tell him all the time I think he would eat anything with hot sauce on it. I do the butter thing though. If it tastes good with a little butter on it, it's even better with a LOT of butter...and I do mean LOT!! Another thing I will have to be careful of once I have my surgery...:faint:

My Worst Fat Day EVER!
Oh Mona! Thanks for sharing your story. I so feel for you. I had a chair collapse under me at DH's parent's house on Easter when he and I were dating and I so just wanted the earth to open up and swallow me!! I can laugh about it now, but only because I am MUCH more careful where I park my big @ss! I am so loking forward to the day when I can sit anywhere I want, stand/walk as long as I want, and not be a slave to my weight any longer!!! Good luck to you and thanks to for sharing your myspace!! I will be requesting to be your "friend" later today when I get home and would LOVE a copy of that CD!

I hate it when people post just to post.....
I have the same problem!! I am a D to a DD depending on the bra and anytime I have lost major amounts of weight in the past, the girls just hang in there ( and I mean HANG!! :faint:). I am hoping to be able to get a lift once I have surgery and lose my weight. WHo wants to have a knock out body and boobs that hang to their waist when not strapped up? :phanvan

BCBS PPO for SC state employees
Is anyone familiar with the BCBS PPO plan for SC state employees? I am getting ready to take this plan and know they took WLS off the benefits list a couple of years ago, but hoping they have added it back or might be for 2008. I also heard that since the surgery itself isn't covered, they don't cover any complications caused by the surgery/band. If anyone is familiar, let me know please!!!

Why are YOU Fat?
LOL That is a very good idea!! Once that happened, I would probably have to tell them who I was or they wouldn't recognize me!!

Name one thing people would be surprised to know about you
I have seen the new show and like the way he follows up with the families he does readings for in that show, but as far as format, I really liked the old show better. I catch it every now and then, but always forget to look for it. I think it comes on at the same time as something my husband likes to watch.

Name one thing people would be surprised to know about you
It really is the most awesome feeling when someone can reassure you in that way. Sometimes life can make you think you're crazy, but a little insight from an outsider brings it back into perspective.

Anyone know more about the docs in Georgia?
I remember them saying they had that list of doctors they refer you to. It does seem like that would make the whole process smoother. I am hoping the doctor I end up with in SC will be the same way. How did the psych visit go?

Do we really forgive if we can't forget?
Mine are 18, 17, and 15. Not quite grown, but pretty close. I am grateful that I have been blessed with their being healthy and safe and I have never had opportunity to find out just what I am capable of when it comes to protecting them. :heh:

Do we really forgive if we can't forget?
I am also a firm believer in karma. I have seen the old saying "what goes around, comes around" come true too many times. In my life, I find it more peaceful and less stressful for myself to just cut those out who cause me grief. At the same time, being a believer in karma, I try to do the best I can to be the best person I can be without causing grief for others. I don't want to have to keep looking over my shoulder waiting on it to come back on me!:faint:Now, that being said, I do have the typical mother response when it comes to my kids - mess with ANY of my kids and the gloves come off. I'll take whatever karma wants to deal me for that.

Oh, ok. What pre-op appointments are they requiring for you?

Do we really forgive if we can't forget?
My sentiments exactly, SSDiva!! DH and I have very different attitudes about this. I feel like as long as I have ANY feeling, whatever the person did, and therefore the person theirself, still has control over you. It's when you can honestly say you have reached indifference that you have regained control over the situation. DH, on the other hand, will carry a grudge and negative feelings about a person FOREVER!!! Drives me crazy.

Thanksgiving Holiday - Celebrating or Ignoring?
We will drive to North Carolina to see DH's dad and family. We only see everyone in his family at his dad's birthday in April, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, so no way to really put an end to that tradition. I will just have to practice self control.
