  1. Got a call yesterday for my first nut appt for next Tuesday. Man do they want to get the ball rolling fast. I was able to tag the EGD onto my colonoscopy that I already had scheduled for August 15th. I have Coventry and they only require 3 months of dr supervised diet. I guess my first appt with the dr was the start date for that right? And that was last week. I am really excited.

  2. The complicated ones stick in your mind the most. I saw a lot of perforated bowls working the blood bank from colonoscopies. But was it really a lot or did those just stick in my mind the most? How many were successful that I never saw? Things happen. That's why who the doctor is is very important. They will monitor you very closely and any sign of trouble get you back into the hospital.

  3. As a medical technologist please do not confuse a phlebotomist with a medical technologist. I perform the tests and deal with the instruments. I am certified in my field and hold a BS in my field.

That being said those questions that the phlebotomist asked you were inappropriate as a medical provider and should be brought up with the lab manager or director so that this person can be educated on what is appropriate so that he/she does not ask the same questions to the next person. No medical personnel should express their feelings about a procedure unless it's your dr.

I'm sorry you had to deal with this unprofessionalism.

  4. Thank you. I'm excited about getting this journey started. Finally have the support of my wife. I was going to try to start in January or February but I was not feeling too well in my abdomin and now I know why.

If you have a family history then defiantly get looked at. My family is almost gone so I have no history to go by. But I'm thinking my dad might have had some stomach issues. If you are genetically predisposed they say by 40 you could have cancer. I was about 2 years away with one polyp. The real test is in a month to see if it has come back. If so then bariatric surgery will probably be off the table for me. So much to worry and stress about. The problem is just not knowing.

There really is not much on the web about polyps before bariatric surgery. Just a tiny bit about bariatric surgery could increase the risk. But since colonoscopy is usually not required before hand the data is flawed. That's why I posted the question on here.

  5. Just saw the surgeon today to get this journey started and I told him I was interested in the sleeve. He told me that he prefers the complete bypass since the sleeve requires some work on the diet end and you can cheat on it. He wants me to be on a 1200 cal diet for three months. Really? If I could do that by myself I would not need surgery. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

  6. My first dr.s appt is in 10 minutes do I will see how it goes. But getting a colonoscopy is really easy. Change into the hospital gown. Lay on the bed. Get an iv. Say hi to the doc. And sleep. There was no awkwardness of positioning or anything. Very professional. The worst part is the prep. I'm sure just like bariatric surgery

I'm sorry if this is off the original topic. The occult blood is very non invasive screen and worth it.

  7. I had my first colonoscopy 4 months ago. Found some blood in my stool and I stopped having solid stools. Just soft. The week I was to have it done I was feeling better and almost canceled. I'm glad I did not. I had 39 polyps. Doc said I was about 2 years away from some serious crap! I'm only 37. I thought I had an ulcer. And now I am on the 6 month cycle. Two good things came of this. I feel better plus I met my out of pocket max for the year and if I can get bariatric surgery done before jan 1 it's free!

  8. My first bariatric Dr.s appointment is tomarrow and I am kinda nervious about bringing up the subject of colon polyps with the Dr.

I had a colonoscopy 4 months ago becuase I thought I had a bleeding ulcer. When it was over the nurse exclaimed "thats the most I have ever seen." OK thats not what I wanted to hear. I had 39 polyps and I am only 37 years old. Genetic testing come back negative. My next colonoscopy is in August.

My question is- Is polyps a contraindication for Bariatric surgery? I would really appreciate any thoughts.
