I do believe you have forgotten your own words.  You claim those who go to Mexico are just trying to save a few bucks.  Most people in the US have no bariatric insurance.  They either go to Mexico or they sit at home and die of obesity.
 
I would caution you to be careful when you choose your words.  You have done this repeatedly lately.

To my knowledge Kuri and Huacuz have not been to trial yet.  I am unaware of Almanza being arrested, just that his recovery homes were shut down.  The plastic surgeon has been to trial and he is in prison now.  
 
Another bariatric surgeon (not in TJ) is also in prison, actually... 7 of them are.  Not all bariatric surgeons though, for organ trafficking.

You have to get down to basics. How much does it cost the surgeon to do a surgery. The cost of staples alone is astonishing. The cost of the hospital, the cost of paid and trained staff.. you can't do it for $3500. It is impossible. Surgeons that do cheap surgery tend to use black market supplies, veterinary equipment from China, etc.
You get what you pay for, that is the bottom line. You want cheap surgery? You take risks. We are talking common sense here.

All ive been told is that bariatric surgeons should have one or more of the following...
FRACS, FASMBD, FICS, SAGES, FACS after their name. Dr Illan has MD which in NZ means he is only a medical doctor. Basic surgeries only.

I would take great pause in going to a surgeon that employs a known felon.

Oh goodness, thank you so much for making me realize that. Yes, you are right, it is much better to back down, allow Omar to continue to take advantage of his patients, make inappropriate sexual advances to those who clearly don't want it, and to satisfy his personal sexual needs with insecure, woman he meets through his job instead of being a real man and finding woman outside of his job. Yes, you are right, lets just allow him to continue to victimize woman.
Here is the read deal, IF Dr. Illan truly cares about his patients, and IF Dr. Illan truly cares about his reputation, once he sees and hears all the facts, which I can assure you he will, then he will fire Omar so fast, Omar will not know what hit him. And IF Dr. Illan does that, he will have my utmost respect and support.
However, IF Dr. Illan is presented with all this information and continues to keep Omar in his employ, then he is as guilty as Omar and whatever happens to him and his reputation is his own fault, NOT the fault of this thread, NOT the fault of the victims. HIS OWN FAULT. It is his responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of his patients.
I will continue to speak out about this and will continue to defend these woman until Omar is no longer coordinating for anyone, or working in the medical field for anyone.

May you all (and by 'all', I mean the Cabal of individuals who would seem to be 'fundamentalists' when it comes to the Baja clinic and their coordinating staff), be THOROUGHLY ashamed of yourselves.

Give it a Break.  Illan made a fully informed choice to hire a known gang member, felon, with a known history of taking advantage of vulnerable women alone in a strange country for major surgery.  He knew Omar had been fired for this very behavior from another surgeon.  But hey... Omar can get him $$$ so who cares about the patients.  It's the bank account Illan cares about.  He gets what he gets.   I plan to personally see to it that the proper authorities are notified of his business practices.  Don't blame the ladies here, blame ME and I don't even have a dog in this fight.  But I'm going for it anyway.  Someone needs to stop both Illan and Omar from such horrific lack of ethics and I decided I want the job.  Call it self appointed if you wish.

There is a finding checked by the federal court judge in his order concerning Omar which states "the defendant has a significant prior criminal record."   These documents are public record.   In the US, we are lucky to have diligent employers who do background checks.  

This post will remain open until I request that it be closed. That will happen once appropriate resolution has taken place.
If we close it down now, it will disappear and that is what the Omar Worshippers want. And, we would be doing a disservice to potential patients of Dr. Illan if we do not warn them about Omar as long as he is still in the employment of Dr. Illan and Baja Bariatrics. I've met very few men in my life (once past the sorority/fraternity days) that this behavior is typical of. In fact, most men I know prefer to be with one woman, in a loving partnership, having outgrown the "player" stage while in college. In fact, even when living in the sorority house, the "players" were far less common than the REAL men, those who actually had respect for the women in their lives.
"Men" who act like you've described are nothing more than self centered narcissistic children, and that's OK, as long as they are not breaking any ethical codes, which I do believe is the issue here. REAL men are a whole 'nother breed.

Question for you, what other Medical Ethics are okay for Omar to disregard?  I mean, the rules don't apply to him so what else shall we excuse regarding Omar's behavior?  It doesn't matter one single itty bitty iota if you were willing or not.  It changes nothing.  HE should have had enough respect for you and his job to keep his penis where it belonged.  But he doesn't, he doesn't respect anything or anyone.  Honestly, the more I read the more disgusted I am with Illan.  I came here without strong opinions of Illan one way or another.  I have very strong opinions now.  Now I am just becoming angry.

Bingo! Medical Ethics does not just apply to the doctor, it applies to the entire staff. The doctor is merely responsible in the end. I think it is clear that the doctor is aware of this behavior and he's doing nothing about it. You can like him as a surgeon, heck, you can credit him for your own hard work in losing weight. It does not make it right to allow this to continue when you ladies have the power to do something about it. Put the screws to Illan to fix this problem! Be the solution, not the problem.
I would hope ALL these women file formal ethics charges for these behaviors. If not, you are only helping him to continue the behavior. So far the women I have seen that are telling their stories are taking partial responsibility for their own actions in these incidents. Being a responsible adult means fixing our past errors, not pretending like it didn't happen.
Let's see what Illan is *really* all about. Prove to us that he actually cares about patients. Do something or acknowledge you don't care what your doc is made up of.

I still do not know what anyone sees in Omar. First we have his silly name, then we have his photo. I swear, he had to use drugs or something to seduce these woman. Seriously, eww. A vulnerable patient chasing, convicted felon, (apparently) still wanted in the US, an illegal alien, and proud founder of a Latino gang. Good grief. What a disgusting POS. Not only did the taxpayers have to pay his undeserved education (and likely food/medical as well) but we had to pay for his crimes and prison time. What a treat for the US.

So why is it you don't believe the experiences of the three women who posted in this thread? In a thread you started back in January you rightfully asked people to respect your experience of not being informed by your doctor about the complication rate with the band. You were right in that thread to defend your own experience and I applaud you for standing up for your experience. However, in that same line of thought, it is hypocritical of you to now disavow the experiences of these women for whom he is a predator - and for you to say otherwise is just like the people who jumped all over you about being upset about your experience with the band. You can't argue with their experience. Please don't let your survival mechanism get the better of you - you are a teacher and have a history in law enforcement - you are clearly smart and well educated. Something about this has gotten you personally hooked. If you had a great experience with Dr Illam and Omar, the experiences of these women don't diminish you or your great experience. I hope you find some clarity and peace around your friendship with Omar.
People who are considering having surgery with Dr Illam have a right to know his coordinator is a felon. It brings into question the wisdom and clarity of thought he uses to run his practice. For some it may make no difference at all. For me, I would never use a doctor who employes a felon.

I'd imagine so.  Is that the norm?  Heaven's no!  If you are going to Mexico with your best friend and you are both having surgery, might you go to a mall to see what a Mexican mall is like?  Of course, but that is the norm, not as described to you.  I question how much time the odd author really spent in Mexico and just who the heck she was hanging with.  It's not regular people.  Most of us went, we were afraid, nervous, excited, we didn't really know what to expect.  THAT is the norm. I went to a mall, I had the time, I felt up to it, I wanted to see a Mexican mall.  Period.  Most of us are like that, certainly not as you were told.  That was to justify Omar's behavior as something the women wanted, damn sure not reality.

There is so much I want to say, but ya know how you have those days where nothing has gone right and you're this close to just blowing up? Yes, I'm there. And if it happens here, it won't be pretty. I am so tired of the fan club defending a man who gets his rocks off on preying on vulnerable, innocent victims just because they weren't unfortunate enough to have it happen to them. This man is about as low as they come. If you all could see the new information that has been shared with me today, you would just vomit. He is disgusting. A pig. Mankind in its worse form.
