  1. I'm 1 month post-op on week 5 of my eating plan, still soft foods. I just don't know how many calories I should be getting in. I'm doing good to get in 500-600 a day. I haven't lost any weight this past week and it is a little discouraging. I'm too tired to get any exercise in, take naps daily. However, I did have something wonderful happen this week. I had my blood pressure taken. I was concerned since I haven't taken any bp meds since my surgery. It was 117 over 78!! What!!! I don't not have to take any more bp meds already!! Plus diabetes symptoms are all gone!! The number on the scale doesn't seem to matter as much when I get news like this!!

  2. Hi all! Haven't posted in a while. I had my surgery Wednesday the 6th and went back to work Monday the 11th. I started full liquids today. Did great on the Clear Liquids. The worst thing after surgery was the gas pains, fortunately those are now a memory. Now the worst thing is if I happen to drop something at work since 4 of my stab wounds are along my waist band. Oui!

Haven't had any nausea or vomiting, did have Constipation, Milk of Magnesia was my friend. Feeling Great! I have my 1st post-op next week and am waiting for then to get on the scale. My sweet hubby does say I do look like I've lost weight. :D

Hang in there because we are all worth it!!

    :0)

  3. My surgery is the day after tomorrow, August 6th. I've been through a six month program, and am in week 2 of my liquid pre-op diet. I keep reading about people who have done the surgery only to gain the weight back, the vicious cycle we all know too well. Am I doing the right thing...having the surgery? I've never been under anesthesia before and I'm terrified, don't want to chicken out, have been very dedicated to this plan but as it grows closer I'm having crippling fear of the actual surgery. Please tell me it's worth the risks!

    Sorry, posted twice by mistake.

LaceGirl, we are the same day! From what I have read, the majority of the ones who have gained weight back had had the Lapband. A lot of them had a second surgery to have the sleeve done. I'm glad we are going straight with the sleeve! I've had my second thoughts too, but then I know that if I could lose the weight another way I would have already done that. I'm so looking forward of not only loosing the weight, but loosing the diabetes, the CPAP, the sore joints, hypertension, the sweating, ... I could go on and on. What I'm going to gain makes it even more worth it to me, the energy, the confidence, the shock on some faces, the new stores I always wanted to shop at, least of all, the years I'm adding on to be with my family for as long as God will allow. Is it worth the risks? It is for me.

  5. I can't find liquid Tylenol but I found the cvs brand of acetaminophen... Is this good enough it's for adults. Plus I also got the milk of magnesia to take the day b4. It's just the liquid Tylenol that got me bugged out. Can't keep calm I just keep looking at the calendar...nervous wreck

Tylenol is just a name brand of acetaminophen. The CVS brand will do just as well. Glad you found it!

  6. Hi all, just found this forum this morning. My surgery is Tuesday, August 5th. Excited but starting to get nervous. Thought the 2 week pre-op diet was going to kill me...thankfully it has worked out well. The first 8 days were tough but on the 9th day I got a burst of energy and clarity of mind like I haven't had in who knows how long.

I agree about the clarity of mind! It was as if a cloud had lifted and I knew I could do this. Got my approval, but still not set on the actual date although I have been on the pre-op diet for two weeks now. I see the dr again Tuesday. I'm suppose to go back to work on the 11th! I need my surgery now! I'm so excited though!

  7. Haha! It's to strengthen your lungs. Google tells me that having surgery in the chest or abdomen increases your chances of having breathing difficulties or developing pneumonia and "deep breaths help keep your lungs clear of secretions that can lead to infections. Deep breathing also helps improve the function of your lungs so that they deliver as much oxygen to the rest of your body as possible, which speeds up the recovery process." I think balloons are just the poor-man's spirometer. Although now I wonder if this is just a sucker test and when they find me in a house full of 420 balloons, I will have qualified.

Hahaha!!! That cracks me up! At least you'll have all your balloons ready for your Approval Celebration! :0). Still laughing.....

  8. I too am a school district employee and hate that we are losing BCBS on Sept. 1. I started the original process in May. However, my dad got sick the end of May and passed away 4 weeks ago. After dealing with the initial shock of losing him, I too have been on the fast track to get things done. I have completed 2 of my 3 visits at the surgeons office, NUT consult, and PCP has been seen. Going to psych eval later today (I can't sleep at night, so I'm writing this early morning hours), and my final surgeon office visit is scheduled for Monday. Hope the psych doesn't take long to get paperwork to surgeon's office - I will explain rush. My scheduler said she would send everything in immediately and she would squeeze me into schedule. And I'm hoping for Aug. 5 date. We go back on the 18th, so that would give me plenty of heal time. Good luck to you and I hope BCBS doesn't deny knowing they will be at the end of covering us.

I'm sorry you lost your dad. I hope we both get great news very very soon! :0)

  9. Hi y'all, I'm a newbie. These post are making me nervous. I just decided to actually do the sleeve early this month, though I had thought about it for years. I never really considered I could afford it. It was actually my sweet hubby that suggested it after our family vaca late in June. I'm having to fast track this process, so far so good I think. Not as sure after reading these post though. Here is my dilemma... My insurance is changing as of September 1st! The new insurance does not cover WLS. I talked to BCBS and the lady there was so very helpful! She thought I could still get approved and surgery done before Sept 1. I got busy. I found a program, True Results, and had my first appt with them Friday, July 11th. The same day I saw their on sight Dr, they did an EKG, and the pulmonary test. Easy breezy, right. Then on Monday, July 14th, I went back for my Psych evaluation and nutrition visit. Now they say I have to wait for the results of the psych eval results for a week. Since we are Fast Tracking this, they already gave me the pre-op diet plan the surgeon wants his patients to be on for two weeks. I'm going to go ahead and start it this next Monday just in hopes that all continues to keep moving full speed ahead. I start back to work ( school district) Aug 11th, so I'm shooting for an Aug 4th surgery. I'll call the office Monday to see if they have the evaluation results and make sure they get the paperwork to the ins co. Fingers crossed. Then I'll get on the line with BCBS to remind them they told me they would rush this through. Do you think I'm crazy, or what?! What I am is determined! I'll keep y'all up to date.

  10. Hello, I'm a newbie, still pre-op, and I'm excited to be here. I feel lucky to have my support group of family and friends. I may not shout it from the roof tops to the city, nor do I intend to put it on fb, but I need the those in the know to know. I need to hold myself accountable and those that care about me will back me all the way. When I start losing and it's gets noticed, bring on the questions, I'll be so excited I won't care who knows. :D
