    1st Week Calories

I think the only calories I got at that stage was from my Protein drinks (probably only 2 full ones a day). For the first several weeks I focused on Water, Vitamins, protein, and calories, in that order. It will definitely get easier to get the protein and the calories in daily. Best of luck!
  2. I had 6 and no drain. RNY Best of luck!!

    Pain Meds?

I don't remember the pain medicine that was given in the hospital. I know that I only needed one dose that they gave directly after surgery. Walking was my pain medicine. The only pain I had was from the gas associated with they surgery and the walking really helped.
  4. I tried Celebrate Vitamins and the calcium citrate chews in the pas but have switched, with my doctor's permission to Centrium chewable multi Vitamin and a calcium citrate capsule that I found at Vitamin Shoppe. I couldn't be happier with the taste of the multi and the price of the calcium. Added bonus, I can just run to the store to get either, I don't need to order.

    Post op sucks!

Days 3 and 4 were the hardest for me. I know this will be TMI, but not being able to have a bowel movement was REALLY bad. It did get better after day 4. You got this - drink up! I mean Water. lol

    Please chime in...

I am 4 months out post RNY surgery and have been out to dinner/lunch a handful of times. My "go to" meal is a grilled chicken salad. I know, pretty boring, but you can usually get in anywhere including fast food restaurants. I always get the chicken and the dressing on the side. I start with the chicken then have a few bites of salad and take the rest home for someone else. I really try to just stick to eating at home but sometimes I'm not able to do so. Best of luck!

    Diet Cheating!

I don't feel as though I am on a diet. I have made a lifestyle change regarding my diet and exercise and plan to stick with it. I don't feel like I'm "normal". Whether I had a food addiction, or laziness, or slow metabolism, etc., I had to change my ways. The surgery is a tool. I didn't go through the process to eat the same way I did before just in smaller amounts. I had the surgery as a stepping stone to reboot my life. I am no expert but I think WLS patients lose the most during the first 3 months, 6 months, 9 months so I am trying to get the "most bang for my buck" and stick to the plan. I mean that literally since I paid for the surgery myself. Now that's not to say that I haven't gone out and had a small (I mean really small!!) piece of pizza, or a cocktail ( I know, we are not supposed to have alcohol within the first year but I figured one vodka and water- no high sugar mixes- wouldn't hurt). I read all of my food labels and rarely go out to eat anymore. The savings in my pocketbook is a huge bonus too! Best of luck!!

    When to weigh in?

I had a post that was somewhat similar to this the other day. Like @@BLERDgirl , I try to only weigh myself at the doctor's office. I figured that is where I had my "official" weigh in and that is the scale that I use. I try to pop in once every 3 weeks or so to weigh in. This past week I actually weighed in 3 times within 24 hours on 3 different scales and the weight difference between 2 scales was 9 lbs. This is why I only use one scale.
  10. I am only 4 months post-op RNY but recently started working out with a trainer. I gave him all of my information and went over examples of my diet. Honestly, I don't think I take in enough calories now (probably under 1000 a day) but I just am not that hungry. I stick to 3 meals a day with no Snacks. My trainer said I need to up my calories a bit so I started drinking a Protein shake around 6:30 when I leave for work then have Breakfast around 8:30. It has helped me increase my protein by al lot. I'm shooting for working out 5 days a week. So far so good, I haven't been dragging at all! Congrats on all of your success and thank you for posting!
  11. I'm from a big Italian family so our Christmas tradition is to have a big Italian banquet of food. You name it, we have it- lasagna, sausages, prosciutto, arancini, mozzarella, pecorino, artichokes, etc. Probably enough to feed a small army. I'm not really dreading it this year to be honest. I'll bring something that I know I can eat without any problems while still being able to keep my Italian card!

  15. Here's my story! I've struggled with my weight my entire life. Blah, blah, blah! This is, I'm sure, the same story for most of us. I've tried all diets and have had a lot of success only to see the weight gradually come back the minute I stopped exercising and "dieting". I haven't stepped on a scale for over 7 years nor did I go to the doctor's office in this time frame. Quite frankly, I didn't want to hear the number, my weight. In the spring I started doing research on weight loss surgery and decided to move forward and attend a seminar. I was so impressed! Even though this was not covered by my insurance and I paid out of pocket, I moved forward with RNY. I didn't really "diet" prior to surgery but I didn't go on a eating binge either. I only had to do a 3 day surgery prep and had my surgery on July 14, 2014. This is my "before" and "during" pics. The last 3 months have truly been life changing. I've learned so much from this site and others. I look at food so much differently now. I don't consider myself as being on a "diet". Instead, I just choose to eat really healthy foods. I've stuck to a really low carb/high Protein diet. Pretty much the same for all of us. I really enjoy reading all of your stories and get something out of all of them. As of today, just about 3 1/2 months post op, I am down about 85 lbs! Here's to the next 3 months!!!
  16. @@bellabloom Awe, thank you so much! It's been a good 3 months! Here's to the next 3!!!

    Snack ideas?

I started making Protein pudding sugar-free instant pudding mixed with 1 3/4 cup soy milk or 2 cups of milk. Mix and let it harden a bit then add 2 scoops of your favorite Protein powder. I usually divide this into 6 serving and eat a serving for Breakfast but could easily be a protein snack!

    The day has arrived!

@@Quest4TheNewMe Excellent news! Walking helps A LOT! I remember getting up almost every 2 hours during my hospital stay and walking. Can't wait to read about your journey!
  22. I only told my family and just a few close friends that I was having bypass prior to surgery. Once the surgery was over I pretty much shared with everyone that comments on my weight loss. I want to be completely up front with everyone. I'm not ashamed nor embarrassed that I had the surgery. I know over the last 4 months I have worked really hard and am so proud of my lifestyle change. Everyone is really supportive!
  23. I'm 4 months post-op RNY and have found lots of inspiring members that keep posting after 1year, 2 years, and 3 years. The stories are really inspiring and I know that I value everyone that continues to post now and will definitely be referring back to all of the posts when I am further along. Best of luck with your journey!
