  1. I had my surgey Aug 4. I have only lost 46 pounds since surgery. But total of 88 pounds since I started the phase 1 part of the journey. I was not eating enough calories. I was at 500 a day and at this stage I should be eating 800-1000 per my Dr's dietian. Sure enough I increased my calories and the weight is coming off much better. Hang in there! It will be slow for some of us but it will come off.

  2. Angela - Just hang in there. You won't be this way forever. I too had issues with my surgery. I went home on day 3 after surgery. My taste buds had changed so much that Water tasted bad. I could not get down any of the Protein shakes either. 4 days later back in the ER dehydrated and spent 5 days in ICU. I had lost 17 pounds after surgey but by the time they loaded me down with IV fluids I had gained 22 pounds back. More than what I weighed the day of surgery. I am just now 6 weeks Post-Op and have finally lost the 22 pounds.

I choose to have the surgery because of my type 2 diabetes and I wanted it to go away. But luck would have it that instead of it going away it gave me type 1 diabetes. I am like some rare percentage of people this happens to. So my weight is coming off very slow. I am sure it has to do with my blood sugars but we are working on controling them with 2 types of insulin and medications. The Dr. is hopeful that the more I lose the better they will get.

I know this seems like a set back but your body needs time to heal. Just be patient and think positive. It will get better. We all go through the regret of surgery at some point and it's totally normal. Good Luck.

  3. You just have to beleive in yourself and that everything will be just fine. Follow all the directions to the letter and you should be fine! I am scheduled for Monday Aug. 4th as well. I am sure we all have the same fears. We just have to push through them. I have been very lucky to have my friends, family and co-workers cheer me on. But if they didn't it wouldn't matter to me because I am doing this for me and my health because I want to live a long life and that is what truely matters the most! Good luck!

  4. Anyone feeling weak when you are excercise or work out at the gym while being on the liquid diet? I feel more and more weak each day. I'm on day 9 of the liquid diet. I make sure I get all 100 oz in plus some daily of Fluid and try to stay on a time schedule for all my supplements. I wonder if I'm trying to do too much. I'm trying to build my muscles up before the surgery. Any Idea's or suggestions to share?

  5. Thanks for the idea Dawn. I actually like the drinks so far. I haven't added any flavoring to them yet. I chose Isopure zero carb for my Protein drinks.Well today is day 2 and not too bad thank goodness. I'm a little off my "Feeding/Drinking" schedule and it's hard to get all the fluids down for some reason. Maybe I'm just tired today. I started my liquid diet 2 days early because of adjusting my diabetes meds and I was afraid of low sugars. But not the case. I added up my calories today it comes to 800 per day. I would hope to lose 20-23 pounds by my surgery date. I'm just taking it one day at a time.

See you on the Losers Bench!

  6. Hi - I'm a newbie. My name is Shelly and I'm 54. After starting this journey back in March, 17 Dr. appointments and tests later I finally have my surgery date of Aug. 4, 2014.

Today is my first day of the liquid diet. So far it hasn't been bad at all. Daily, I have - 4 protien shakes, 3 flber supplement drinks, 3 servings of dairy either skim milk or light yogurt and 1 cup of raw veggies. I have can have sugar free popcicles and broth if I want. Total liquids have to be at least 100 oz or more per day. Luckly for me the shakes take care of 32 oz and the Fiber drinks are 24 oz. The rest I can make up with Water or broth. I have to be on this liquid diet 3 weeks pre-op and the week of the surgery.

I can't say I'm not nervous and a little scared. I have been reading everyone's post on here and they have been very helpful seeing that I am not alone on this journey. Thanks for posting. :)
