  1. I've gotten the go ahead from my surgeon that I do not have to use chewable or liquid vitamins anymore and I'm anxious to move on. I have about a month's worth left of my chewables so I have time to research and comparison shop.

I'm really interested in hearing from those of you who've had labs done already (I have not) and have good numbers.

What do you take? Would you be so kind to tell me the brand and where you get them? If you have a link to it that would be amazing!

    Thanks!

  2. What you might do is put them on ignore after you report it. You'll be blissfully missing all of their posts. I've used it a few times with a couple of people who think the only kind of advice to give is the "tough love" kind. If you click on the little icon that looks like a gear next to your name (top right corner) then select "Manage ignore prefs" you can add their name on your ignore list and see them no more!

  3. I agree that fat is definitely not the worst thing you can be, but it's what has kept me despising myself for years. Gonna have to go see someone about that one day.

Although the JK Rowling quote always made me curious.... the only people she had fat in the whole series were people we were to consider to be bad and she always made sure to go into detail about their fatness in a bad way and about how piggy they were. Uncle Vernon and Dudley come instantly to mind. So her quote tells me one thing but her writing told me another.

  4. Tomorrow is another day to start again so you will. You'll shake this off and focus on good choices.

Have you considered in person support groups or individual therapy for working through your habits? I ask only because I am starting therapy this week to try to work through issues that brought me to morbid obesity. The surgery helped me get a handle on the physical aspect of my weight, but I know there are things I can do mentally to improve my chances of success and I intend to explore what I can.

    You can do this.

  5. I have these little freakouts from time to time, but I doubt the honeymoon is over or that you've stretched it out. I think they're probably a little harder to stretch than we think.

If you're drinking your 64 ounces of Water a day that's 4 pounds of Water weight if you don't sweat it out/pee it out. If you're retaining water at all that could be your answer. My surgeon told me that our cycles aren't the only time we retain water so it doesn't even have to be that.

Breathe and calm down a bit. Refocus on making sure you're weighing your food exactly and getting in your Protein and water. Your body will let that weight go when it's ready if you stay on track.

  6. I am in Ohio. Mexico is definitely not an option. I'm not against possible other places but really for the extra 10k it's worth it to me to have someone local who I can visit within an hour if I am having issues of some sort. :)

I'm not sure what part of Ohio you're in, but I had the sleeve done by Dr Trace Curry in Cincinnati and it was $14,700 in June.

  7. From February of this year until my surgery in June I lost (in just 4 months!) 85 pounds. Now, part of that was because I had SO MUCH to lose and the first 40 came off really easily. I did it mostly without exercise. I ate high Protein and low carbs and I cut out starches, fruit, and sugar. Honestly, it wasn't a hard diet to stay on because even though I cut calories dramatically, I was still eating quite a bit but GOOD food.

My own primary care doctor said "You're doing so well without surgery, do you still want to do it?" I honestly considered not having the surgery but I'm so glad I went ahead with it. Even though I haven't lost as much as some people have in 2.5 months, I've still lost 40ish pounds since then and I know that I'm better equipped now with this new tool to keep on losing.

Who knows how long I could have kept up losing on my own? I definitely noticed a slow down as my body adjusted to getting less food. You mention that you think (based on this six months) you could lose all of it in another year. Anything is possible but I heartily say: do not count on it. As you lose more and more weight your body needs less calories to sustain itself and you'll have to eat less and less to accomplish weight loss. As you add exercise your body will also need (nearly demand!) more food because you're running it harder.

Only you can determine if WLS will be a right fit for you. Look at all the pros and cons and make a choice based on what you've done in your lifetime, not in the last six months. Good luck!

  8. I'm sorry you're feeling low :( Hopefully the farther you get out from surgery the more you're able to have those good days.

You've lost 6 pounds in 9 days and that's slow? Be proud! I believe lower weight BMI folks tend to lose a little slower so 6 pounds in 9 days seems pretty good to me.

Keep plugging along and you'll get there.

  9. I don't want to be a negative person, but I personally would wait a bit. You're fresh off of surgery and going through SO many changes right now. You're learning to eat all over again and it is really important to get that 100% nailed down before you start adding new stresses.

I think, as someone who was almost 450 pounds, that we don't get to be to the super obese level without having some issues that need to be sorted out. I would encourage you to seek help mentally with as much vigor as you did physically. I am just now exploring this 2 months out of surgery. The surgeon did his work on my stomach to give me a chance and now I have to do some head work to figure out the things to bring me to where I am. Still, that's just me.

Do what you think will ultimately make you happy. I KNOW my weight has a lot to do with my lack of relationship although I really don't think I want one. I've been by myself for so long I honestly don't know if I'd be good at it and truthfully don't crave it.

    Best of luck to you.

  10. It may be that your stomach is still healing from your surgery (nerves are cut, etc) and you just haven't healed enough to feel that full feeling. I hope that's it!

I was sleeved in June and I rarely have that full feeling so many people describe. I so wish I did. Instead I weigh all of my food and I keep my portions at least 1 ounce under what my surgeon recommends for whatever phase of diet I'm in. That way I know I'm under-eating my sleeve and not relying on that full feeling because it's likely not to come for me.

Not trying to nay-say or scare you, I think most people end up feeling that full feeling but there are a few of us out there who don't.

  11. I was so scared when it got close to surgery that I almost cancelled it. I did a will and wrote notes for people to leave behind and everything. Try to relax and breathe and know that your surgeon has done a lot of these and knows what tests are needed to be sure you're in the best possible shape for surgery. If they had doubts about your ability to withstand surgery, they'd do more tests! You can do it!

  12. My doctor never gave me the name chronic bile salt diarrhea but that's what I lived through for years. I took a powdered cholesterol medication to bind me up for several years. I'm just a little over 2 months out from my gastric sleeve and I haven't had to take that medication once.

In fact, I barely have bowel movements at all. I have maybe two a week, sometimes only one week and just this week have added a stool softener and chewable Fiber to help me along. After YEARS of having the opposite problem it is definitely different.

I can't speak to the gastric bypass doing the same, but it sure has changed for me with the sleeve.

  13. He made me feel very comfortable and makes sure you have information, which I love. He'll make sure you have his email address and answers quickly if you have a question. His whole office is a no-shame zone and they do not judge you. I'm so happy I chose him as my doctor. I drove two hours to have surgery with him when there are qualified surgeons right here where I live.

Make sure you ask him any question you have.

  14. Dr Curry patient here. I traveled from central Ohio and had surgery in June at the JourneyLite facility. JourneyLite is outpatient only I believe, they had me up and walking within an hour of waking up and after 4 hours I left the facility to go to a nearby hotel so I could be close if there was a complication. I had very little pain and nausea.

After the night in the hotel room I went straight home and didn't need to see the doctor again until my 2 week post op appointment. Since then I've had one more appointment at about 5 weeks and my next one is in 2 weeks.

@SheriL1... there are support groups. I get emails for them but since they're 2 hours away for me I don't go although he did have one in central Ohio last month. It was about plastic surgery and since I'm only 2 months out, I skipped it.

I have to say my experience with Dr Curry's office has been a very positive one. I think you're in good hands.
