I was on 45units of Lantus insulin daily and sliding scale novolog insulin with meals prior to surgery. My blood sugars ran 120-150. I stayed on that dose of insulin after surgery, but found I no longer needed the novolog very often. I was so out of shape and had difficulty walking due to
neuropathy so I did not start exercising until 2 months after surgery when I started Water aerobics 3 times a week.
My A1C was coming down at 6 months after surgery, not enough for my endocrinologist to take me off insulin or decrease my dose } My blood sugars before meals were running 56-110] but by 9 mos post op my A1C was 6.2 and I was shocked when he completely stopped all my insulin and did not see a need to put me on pills. Still doing well. feel healthier and walking better now. And managing my diabetes with diet and exercise. I think part of the reason he waited to stop the insulin was he needed to be sure I would stick with the healthy food choices.

I was Type II for 12 years and on insulin for 5 years.

I had my sleeve 2/17/14, After 2 a1c of 6.2 I finally got off insulin in November, Doing great now. Just eat the Protein and very few carbs and it will happen for you too!!

I love pop corn, but its one of those things I don't tolerate well, I still eat a little bit, but I have to eat it very slowly It is on the Dr's list of foods that may not be tolerated well, but I had to try it. Good luck

Had labs and saw mine every 3 months for the 1st year then it is once a year.

Because of other medical problems, results of many years of being over weight, and my age my goal is 150, My surgeon set my goal at 180

I am also type 2 diabetic, I originally wanted the lap band but my surgeon thought the sleeve would be a better option for me because I would loose weight faster with less chance of regaining I did research all options before surgery and deceided he was right.. Since having my sleeve in Feb I have lost 68 lbs and gone off insulin and my high B/P meds. I know longer worry about carbs because I eat so few of them, I am usually full after I eat my Protein. Go with the one you feel comfortable with.

cuddle duds.. My legs always seem to be cold, but wearing long underwear really helps

I agree the first 4-6 weeks were hard, but hang in there it does get better I'm 11 months post op and can eat just about anything, but small amounts. I have no regrets.I no longer need insulin or my high blood pressure meds I love my Water aerobics class ( I always hated exercise) and although I'm losing slower than many people on here, I feel healthier and happy with the changes.

LOL love it!

I talked to my Dr. about this yesterday and she said its a known fact that our metabolism slows with age so I should't be concerned about my slow weight loss it is normal. I am losing and my labs are good and I feel great.

I know what you mean, mine is too. Isn't it amazing the changes in our bodies after surgery?

Saw my Dr. today, a1c 6.2 blood sugars running in the 70's and 80's. Took me off insulin today, woohoo!!! So happy

I was shocked when I went shopping for sneakers, I no longer needed to buy wide width. The new narrow width gave me so many more options I may become a shoe girl and buy all the latest styles! LOL

Yes, I thought it was just me

I go to a Water aerobics class 3x/week. and 10 min stretching exercises at home 2 days per week. I hope to do more walking but right now I'm too unsteady and afraid I'd fall somewhere and would't be able to get home.

Check for free clinics in your area, I went to one here in Wisconsin for 2 years when I had no insurance and although I was over their income requirement I only had to pay $ 10. for each visit.

I was sleeved in Feb 2014 and I too had alot of pain for at least 2 weeks, can't remember exactly when I started to feel better, but I did. I slept a lot, took my pain meds and just kept eating a few bites every 2 hrs. So hang in there things will get better soon!

Thanks jcal8 for letting me know I'm not the only one whose loosing slowly. Makes me feel better!

Check out "Don't sweat the stall stuff"
lots of helpful answers. I had my sleeve in Feb. and have only lost 50lbs seems slow compared to many others, but physical limitations limit the kind of exercise I can do, but I have noticed I have more endurance since the weight loss.
No more insulin!

Congratulations, that's great. I still need to test 2-3 times per day.
