  1. I am 10 years out and have trouble keeping weight on........ Anyone else having a bit too much success with surgery?

Hi, I'm 11 years out & am having the same problem w/ keeping weight on, in the last 2 months I've lost almost 25 lbs & 4 sizes. My doctors have no clue what's going on so they sent me to several specialists. I went to a new gastric dr who thinks part of it is my Iron levels. He told me that as a bypass patient we can get some Iron from food for about the first 8 years then we can't any longer so we have to get it supplemented (IV iron) he's waiting for blood work to confirm it but I have all the symptoms of it including the urge to always chew ice. Have you ever been checked for your iron? He said even if your basic panel looks ok you may need a more In depth iron count check to make sure.

I'm also going for a scope on July 31st to check my pouch & make sure it's nothing else going on because I'm currently have a problem tolerating any meats the only food I have been able to eat is fish. That's been going on about 3 weeks now thank goodness my girlfriend is a chef or I'd be going out of my mind lol!

I hope that things get better for you soon!

  2. Wecome! I am a fairly new newbie too .... and will be having RNY in August 2014 ..... so it will be nice to have another bypasser to share their story :)

Hi Christy, I see from ur name your in AZ, so am I. Where are you having your surgery done? When are you having it done? I had mine done at St Luke's Hospital in 2003. I originally lost 200 lbs & have been able to keep the weight off. I recently started loosing weight again (not sure why & going to drs to get checked, but I've lost another 20 lbs) I've gone from a sizzle 30 1/2 dress to a 12 at last check may be smaller now.

I've had a few issues crop up they had to move my bile duct connection & I also had a twist in my intestines. I have a B-12 deficiency so I get shots 2x a month & I may need to get IV Iron now also but these things were not something that would ever have stopped me from getting the surgery.

It's a def life change, it's not something to go into thinking it's easy it's a lifetime commitment. If I can answer any questions or you just need someone to talk to I'm here for ya!

    Best wishes on your surgery!

    Hugs,

    Stacey
