  1. ANYONE ELSE SERIOUSLY STRUGGLING???

Brief Stats: 61; lost a significant amount of weight with a gastric bypass almost 3 yrs ago, have kept it off but need to lose more; slight disability; never have had ANY support or connection from another WLS peer or support group; have joined several Facebook groups but I find them to be much too judgmental and quite impersonal; moved to a new state 2 years ago and have been looking for peer support but with no vehicle I am unable to attend the ONLY group I found way across town; CURRENTLY FRUSTRATED AND LOSING MOMENTUM

Any suggestions for locating joint buddy support (not just a group) with someone who has at least as much WLS experience as myself (I would be a great buddy too) on this forum or any other location?

    Thanks In Advance :)

  4. CONGRADS on your surgery! Keep sleeping, get your rest, you are healing! We are not as young and need more quiet time. Expect food to get stuck, some things you might not be able to eat for a long while. Tiny, tiny, tiny bites of very soft food and chew, chew, chew!

HI I'm 50 yo and had my procedure about 2 weeks ago. I was feeling fine til about 2 days ago. I'm feeling really tired and do not have the energy to do anything but sleep. Tomorrow starts my 3rd week where I can start eating meats (chicken, seafood). Im scared to start because when I eat now, everything gets stuck in my chest. I take omeprazole everyday.

  5. I do Protein shakes as well, take my vits (received a great lab report yesterday), and drink my Water. I also went from a vegetarian to a vegan. Due to a handicap, I am unable to exercise much but I do what I can. In need of a strong support system which I why I am on this site :-).

My keys to success :) - I haven't totally abandoned Protein Shakes (I usually drink at least 2 a day to get my Protein in), trying to limit my carbs, and exercise (even if it's a 30 minute walk around the block). My active support systems - message boards (such as this one), a therapist, and I have at least 3 "real life" friends who have also had bariatric surgery. The last one is to NOT GIVE UP...Right now I'm fighting the battle to get below 200 pounds.

I see you're also a little over a year post op. How has your experience been so far?

  6. Hi Tori! I had my surgery a little over a year ago, my move to ATL was in May. I know no one here in the WLS community. CONGRADS on your surgery, how are you feeling? You may PM me if like.

Hello! Tori here. Im in Atlanta, Norcross to be exact. I recently had my surgery, like two days ago. Do you know where you plan to do yours? Or did you have it done prior to moving here?

It's never too late, until its too late

  7. Very new to this state, Cobb County GA buddy here! I am working on building and participating in a new support system as well. PM me, lets chat! :-)

I need buddies. I've been at this nearly alone for quite some time and I would love to build a new support system for myself and h,elp support others who aren't as far out or those that just need people too.

The name is Theresa, by the way. I'm 31 y/o.

  8. YES, I DID MAKE A DECISION TO CHANGE MY LIFE!!! YES, IT IS MY TIME TO SHINE!!!

Thanks for mentioning Pastor Osteen, he of my favorites! I needed to be reminded of that this morning!

Thanks for the support, I wish you well on your journey...take care...don't be a stranger. :D

    Struggling!!!

A whole year has gone by already and I have received more negative than positive from family and so called friends. Now I am concerned and feel ashamed because I have not lost as much as I should have. I did not even Celebrate my first surgerversery (sp). Just healing from two major surgeries at the same time (RNY & gallbladder) was enough but now I realize that the negative reactions sent me more into a depressive state. My starting weight was over 500, maybe there is a willing buddy out there who has been successful with losing a massive amount of weight too.

I haven't had surgery and my starting weight is lower, but I wanted to give you some words of encouragement. You did something wonderful for your life! This is your life to live. People are always going to have something negative to say. Let them talk. Let them say what they want. I'm sure you're doing great and probably better if you had a better support system. Don't give up!

I don't know if you have heard of Joel Osteen but he has a radio station on Sirius and I started listening to him. There is a message he's constantly reiterating that I'd like to share with you: shake off the negativity, shake off the self doubt, this is your time to shine!

Congratulations on your decision to save your life .

  9. Oh :-), thank you so very much, you will be hearing from me! Have a fantastic day!

Also happy to help. My starting weight was 504, RNY on 8/4/15. Current weight 232; losing right at about 272 this year. My surgiversary is tomorrow, and one year follow up Monday.

I'm celebrating by having plastic surgery! I think you have to be your own advocate. People that bring negativity, well that's about them and their "stuff"-not about you.

Although everyone has been supportive to me, I know no one can understand my journey but my fellow brothers and sisters that have walked the same path.

I also know what you mean, it's a different perspective to travel down from the 500's. So, feel free to message me. I'm truly happy to help. Know you're not alone and just as it takes a village to raise a child, I think it takes a community to heal from this journey. There are endless kind and supportive and inspiring people for you here.

All the best, and let me know if I can be of any support or assistance.

    Daniel

  10. ...and I will use your box real soon...thanks so much for reaching out to me...have a great day! :-)

I've lost 227 total so far in the last two years, about 170 since surgery about a year ago. Still losing. My inbox is always open! Don't let the judgement and negativity get you down. You've taken control of your life and done things most people would be way too afraid to do.

  11. Well, the problem is that I recently relocated across country to remove myself from the chaos and have no team here, not that I had much of one before (different topic, different day).

Yes, refocus & re-establish, exactly why I am here asking for help.

I will PM you soon, ty so much for reaching out to me!!!

    Have A Wonderful Day :-)

You can do this. You just need to refocus on yourself, don't worry about all the naysayers.
    and
I would be happy to help. You can private message me if you like. It would be good to know where you are at with your diet and exercise.

Are you still working with your Bariatric team? A nutritionist and Physcologist could definately help you get back on track and will provide ideas for local support groups as well. You need someone in your camp to help encourage you and support you.

  12. Thanks so much for your input! :-) I know all the answers to those questions. I am about 75% of the way there but I believe now that I would benefit from a bit of support from another WLS patient. Never had a buddy before and did not want one...lol! Now will I stop working hard if no one comes along, of course not but for me, just chatting on the phone would mean the world to me. A real example of my seriousness...just relocated across country to remove myself from chaos...difficult but DONE! Now to get re-established (have no transportation to get to support groups in my area) and on these forums looking for support.

Thanks again for responding, wish you well as you enjoy your great health! :-)

This is why I didn't tell anyone either.

How does your medical support system feel about your weight loss?

If you feel you are not losing as fast as you should, do you have any idea why that is?

This surgery has been a great tool for me. It has helped be do what I couldn't do alone. But at the end of the day it is only a tool. It is still up to me to work a healthy habits and fight a daily struggle of over eating.

I have used an app called My Fitness Pal. It really helps to keep you honest with yourself as to what you are putting in your mouth. Really helpful with keeping track.

  13. I have not had surgery yet, but this is why I have not and will not tell a soul. I'm doing the whole process alone. I'm fine wit that. As for you just continue what you are doing. Most speak negatively about it thru ignorance. Push through!!
