    I'm a bandster now

I can't belive how ok I feel - a little sore but really just fine. I'm schocked I just had surgery this morning! I am sipping on a protein shake everytime I wake up from napping and doing a little walking lap around the house. It's scaring me how ok I feel - I keep waiting to feel awful (hopefully I never will)!
  2. Thanks, I actually feel pretty good and I just got home!

    gross but....

This pre-op liquid diet is now giving me diarreha. Is this normal? Sorry to be gross but I count on you guys for advice and reassurance!
  7. I have my band surgery on friday and I read that "funeral" post and I am freaking out! Then I read about other people dying on the web, If that funeral post isn't true .... well, I just don't know what to say about why someone would do that. I know it's normal to be scared but I am freaking out now! I am 26 - way too young to die!

    gross but....

I think I'm having too much milk. I will try soy. Does anyone reccomend a good brand of soy milk?
  9. Ok, since there is so much daily discussion on who can eat what when... let's all post our doctor's protocol here. We all know we should DO what OUR doctor tells us, but for all the curious minds (like me) let's just see what everyone's doctors are saying. My doc's protocol: 1 week of liquids pre-op (it says if unable to adhere to this pre-op I can have 1 small meal per day) 1 week of liquids post-op mushies for week 2 and 3 post-op then slowly add "normal food" He says liquids include "juice, Water, cream Soups, milkshakes, Protein shakes" No carbonation for one month after surgery. (some docs say no carbonation EVER but mine says just for one month) Mushies is anything of a mushed pulp consistency.

    food/liquids ?'s

I have my surgery on Friday whoo hoo! I am on a liquid diet 1 week pre-op and 1 week post-op and then 2 weeks of mushies. It says "creamy soups, protein shakes, jello" are all part of liquid diet. So, is it ok if I mix 1 scoop of sugar free fat free ice cream and skim milk into my protein shakes? I fail to see the difference b/w liquid and food if things like milk and jello and soup are "liquids"!!! I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right.

    food/liquids ?'s

I know I know - I just cheated the one time w/ the tiny little salad! Today it's been all protein shakes!

    food/liquids ?'s

Well, even my pre-op instructions from my doc say "if unable to adhere to diet have one small meal" - didn't even say low fat but I kept it low fat!

    food/liquids ?'s

Teresa - Thanks for that list - I did read that. But what I was referring to is the list my doctor gave me. It just makes no sense to me why some things are "liquids" and others are "food", but I will stick to the list! Yesterday I was SO SO hungy that I ate a small salad so I cheated a little but I remembers what you all said which is if you have to cheat pre-op make sure it's small and lowfat.

    70 Stubborn Pounds

My doc says statistically I will lose 72 pounds (even though I think I need to lose 93) but if I lose 72 I will be happy as a friggin clown! I also noticed there is someone on here banded to lose 40 pounds and I thought that was weird for a second and then I quickly realized that 40 pounds is alot of stress on your body too. When you realize what 70 pounds, or 93 pounds, or even 40 pounds of fat looks like and what it can do to your body there's no question that it needs to go.

    Any Band-Over-Bypass people here?

Alatina - why is it that you are not liking your band?
  18. lovecats85

    I cant stop cheating!!!!

My doc says liquids for one week, mushies for two, and then solids slowly incorperated. I think you will be ok if you eat mushies like eggs or mashed potatoes but I'd give up the rice. Good luck!

    Huge NSV!!!!!

    Way To Go!!!
  20. Hey guys. I am still trying to decide on a doc. Dr. Barker is obviously much cheaper but I had an awful experience at his office yesterday. I had a 1 pm appt and I waited 3 1/2 hours!!!!!! to see him. They knew I was pissed and gave me the run around. They scheduled me w/ the insurance guy when I told them on the phone 50 times my insurance won't pay and I wanted to meet the doctor. Anyways, I liked the doctor but the office was a MESS - the waiting, crowds, ants crawling on the wall, etc. I just don't know if I can put my life in the hands of someone whose business is SO out of control. WHat do ya'll think?
  21. lovecats85

Dr. Barker patients - what do you think?

I'm trusting you Barker patients and going with him. It's all I can afford. Pray for me!

Do You Still Enjoy Food Like You Used To?

I know you are not supposed to eat crap all the time, but what is wrong with eating 3 chicken nuggets or 2 bites of cheesecake or a teesny amount of stuff like that?
  23. Like many other people considering the band, I am scared of the surgery. I've never been under before.

Dr. Barker patients - what do you think?

DallasDoll - thank you SO much for that post. It really helped me. I probably will go with him b/c I did like him - just not the office. Good luck with your fill and you red sox hottie!

    not much weight loss

I started really looking at everyone's weight loss stats last night and I realized there are more than a few people who have been banded for 4-6 months and lost 15-20 pounds. I realize that itself is a great achievement (I am so not trying to minimize that) but I have to ask myself if that is worth the thousands of dollars I'm going to shell out since I am self-pay. I mean if the band is designed to lose 2 pounds per week or whatever then 14-20 lbs in 4-6 months is HALF of that. Can anyone who has not lost much tell me if it's b/c you didn't get a fill or are you doing all the "right" things and following the "band" rules and still not losing? Thanks.
