  1. Hi all. I am October 6th in Mexico. I too have been overweight my whole life. I am a huge emotional eater/addict.

I can't believe this is happening really. I had given up all hope of ever being anything but huge. I didn't know about the sleeve until several months ago - a grocery clerk told me her daughter went to Mexico and it changed her life in the best way possible. I went home and googled it and now here I am about to embark on the best thing I have ever done for myself. I have a new lease on life and am thrilled. One of my best friends is coming with me. I am seeing a counsellor and NUT. I can't wait to be able to go the gym again and not feel so terribly self conscious. I want to drink in all life has to offer me! Next summer sea kayaking!!! Good luck and best wishes to all of us on this incredible journey we are all brave enough to take. I will post my journey after I am back. Take good care of yourselves.

  2. Hi Gaudjosl. When I saw my family doctor he said the waiting list would be at least two years. I am curious about the process you had to go through and where you are getting your sleeve in Calgary. I didn't want to wait - that is why I am going to Mexico. I decided to do this and then picked my date. No hoops or evaluations or meetings or insurance stuff.

    Thanks. Joan

  3. Hi there:

I am just about to solidify my surgery date - October of this year. I have been overweight since I was a child and am now 52.

Dieting has got me to 300 lbs. I was sure I was destined to be a prisoner in this body for the rest of my short life.

One day a couple of months ago I was getting groceries and the cashier just randomly starting telling me about her

daughter and how she went to Mexico to have Gastric Sleeve surgery 9 months ago and it was the best thing she ever

did for herself. I remember thinking why is she telling me something so personal. Turns out this cashier is giving me

the biggest gift ever. I didn't know about Gastric Sleeve or it being done in Mexico. I started to research it and now

I am going to have it done. I have gone from feeling hopeless to looking forward to a new life. I am thrilled in knowing

that my future isn't set in stone and that I will live a longer healthier life full of adventures. Sometimes the Universe gives

you a sign. Thankyou and bless you for being brave to tell me your daughter's story. You don't know what a difference

you are making to my life. !!

  4. Hi fellow Canadians!

I am a newbie. Is there anyone else from Alberta? I am going to see my family doc this week to discuss Gastric Sleeve surgery but mostly from what I have read have decided to go to Mexico for the surgery. I have been approved at A Lighter Me in Tijuana already! Am I right by saying that you need to jump through a lot more hoops to get the surgery here and be covered by Alberta Health Care Insurance. Anybody from Alberta/Canada go through A Lighter Me? So far my communication with them has been outstanding. I already feel taken care of. I like the idea of going away for 6 days, being taken care of by people who only just focus on WLS and be in the hands of such experts! If there is anyone from Calgary who would be willing to connect with me I would really appreciate it. I won't be doing the surgery until January of 2015 and can't wait!!! Thanks.
