I just had an orientation for Bariatric surgery. The dr that gave the seminar stated that lap bands are being phased out slowly because too many patients are coming back with issues from either the lap band or new issues arise from it and they have to go through revision surgery.

I am undecided as to which surgery I’ll be going with but I definitely do not want to do any revisions later down the road.

How long have you all had yours?

    Mila

I had my 4 cc ban put in September 2007, the only problem I had with my band was when it was to tight. For me I cannot have more than 1 cc of Fluid in my band. I firmly believe that without this tool I would now be over 400 lbs.

What ever surgery you choose is not as important as the commitment to a total Change in lifestyle to allow the tool to assist you in your life journey.

    G'day,

I'm a newbie to the forum. Had my lapband a while ago but am 'rebooting' it before I consider revision surgery. Had some fill put in and am seriously sticking to the rules and have lost 7.5 kgs in a month so am pretty happy with that.

    Nice to meet you all

(I'm Aussie but live in Ireland)

Good for you it is never too late to reboot. I am very grateful to have this tool and I need to do my part. I know what to do I just need to do it.

Never too late to restart. Spend more time on your ability to make good choices and realize that you are not alone in your journey.

  4. Apparently, have not posted since March 2016 when my weight was in the mid 170's. Right about then I stopped posting on this site, Stopped exercising and Stopped watching what I ate between meals and let me see I gained about 45 lbs.

My 4 cc lap band has 1cc of Fluid cannot tolerate much more than that. My Doctor caught up with me and am know back on track and have lost 10 pounds. Let me see I am watching what I eat, and exercising either walking or resistance band training.

Stil a lot to be thankful for I managed to stop the madness for awhile have not come close to my original starting weight of 330 lbs.

I am still very thankful for my lap band that I received over 10 years ago.

  5. It has been quite awhile since I have checked in with the group and I thought I would give you an update. On September 7 it will be 9 years since getting the Band.

My wife has been having trouble with her band for the last few years and will be having it removed and going to a sleeve sometime with in the next 6 weeks.

My band is doing fine I have gained about 15 lbs in the last 3 months and had stop exercising so no wonder I have gained weight. Iwent back to my second Lapband doctor since the one I liked went back to teaching at the university level.

He took a look at my band using some kind of X-ray machine and I was able to see how my pouch was extended and he gave me .25 cc's of Fluid.

I have been traveling a lot so I am pretty tire but need to get back to looking at this board because it seems I gain weight if I stay away.

  6. I have been traveling a lot for my job and so makes it hard to keep any kind of a regiment in place.

I have slacked off on my walking and surprise have been on a stall and even gained a few pounds. Nothing like in the old days when I would lose 50 and gain 60.

I am still making more good choices then bad ones but my goal weight seems to elude me. When I get close I seem to go back up a bit.

Sorry to hear about the health and relationship issues but like life itself we cannot give up on ourselves.

My wife is having some health issues as well.

Overall I'll take my present life over the one I had 9 years ago.

  7. Thanks Jean. I do believe getting back into my training helped me get back on the "bandwagon". My worst thing is grazing at night. Last night I got a little hungry cause I actually only ate 4ozs for supper. WOW. So I peeled an apple & ate that instead of a whole sleeve of saltines which is what I really wanted. One day at a time.

I have been through a lot the past 8 1/2 years. Banned in 9/07 at 285 lost 100 lbs by 12/09 then I stopped paying attention and 4 years later I was back to 250 by 1/1/13 I said enough is enough and got back on the band wagon and 3 years later have lost 70 lbs.

I too am a late night grazer and what works for me is to get up early and go to bed by 9:00 PM.

Still dislike it when my body goes through those long stalls fortunately I continue to make more good choices then bad.

  8. No body knows the struggle loosing and gaining better than me.

I remember losing 105 lbs back in 2009 in two years to get down to 180. The weight seem to come off so easy, BUT then I stop and in 4 short years I was back to 250 lbs. I had to take a strong look at my life and I felt like such a failure even at 250 it was still 80 lbs less then my highest weight.

In January 2013 I rededicated myself and for the last 3 years and even though I am not terrific at following bandster rules I just seem to make more good choices then bad ones and I have gotten back down to 180.

So I do know how frustrating you must feel and how ashamed it can be.

Even if it is possible to gain weight it just as possible lose the weight again.

I know what you mean about not leaving the board this is truly my support system. during those 4 years of gaining I rarely came back to the board.

I do miss many of the bandsters that started with me back in September 2007 So when I am going through that 3 month stall I seem to concentrate on NSV just like I mention in my earlier post.

  9. NSV's are what I live for especially during those months that the scale do not move.

I travel a lot so I used to dread taking a middle seat on a plane because at my highest weight of 330 pounds there would be three very anxious people in my row. Now it does not matter any seat will do.

Keeping up with the grand children is my greatest joy.

  10. Just a quick update from Sunny California

Been traveling a lot so hard to keep up with exercise and eating right. Fortunately I am making more good choices then bad choices. Was up in Northern California the last two weeks caught a cold first one in quite awhile. At my largest I would usually get bronchitis twice a year and it would last up to six t eight weeks. So now a cold is very unusual.

After not losing for three months I am back losing again and have managed to sneak back into the 170's which I have not seen for over 30 years.

Been quite the adventure these last 8 years.

  11. The Holidays can be a very difficult time especially if you are not feeling well. I recently had a 46 year old male cousin died who was the picture of health and left behind two children in college. He was the third child that my aunt and uncle had lost one at child birth one at 26 and the one above at 46.

You never know what life will bring so you need to enjoy your life.

  12. Congratulations I too believe in celebrating small goals.

I had my weight loss surgery in 2007 and have "yet" to make it to goal. I would of given up long ago if I did not Celebrate NSV's or short time goals.

You would be surprised how many WLS patients think they are failures because they do not reach their weight loss goal.

I on the other hand am extremely grateful every day for having my active life back.

  13. Like when I buy doughnuts for work and wonder if the cashier is wondering if I'm eating all those myself! LOL

I ask for a receipt for petty cash.

Then go home and eat them all myself.

This reminds me of the so called good old days of eating three apple fritters and feeling sad because there were no fritters left.

Now if I choose to eat a fourth of a fritter it takes me twice as long to eat the fourth as it took to eat 3 fritters.

Taking the time to enjoy food is a real blessing

  14. Love love hearing good band stories. As you can read it is not for everyone and many are not successful. And perhaps non compliant? Don't know.

A common thread seems to be keeping the fill in our bands a bit low. I just read many posts of dehydration

And sleeping upright due to tight band issues.

I'm very thankful I was one of the

" lucky " ones that seemed to have good long term results. It has changed my life for the better and certainly for the healthier.

For me the three times my band was super tight were not very pleasant. My band and I are at our best when it has less Fluid in it.

I am very grateful for the tremendous opportunity to live a healthier more active life.

I just have to make more good choices than bad.
