Sleeved this morning!
Home now. Last night in the hospital was kinda rough because every time I tried to drink anything or stand up, I would get a fit of hiccups that hurt like hell. That finally stopped this morning, and I got some fluid down and did a couple laps, and now I'm feeling pretty good. Sore, but good.

Sleeved this morning!
They tell me that I'm still alive, but I'm not sure I believe them. Haha Seriously tho, not too bad so far. Pain is mild right now, tho it's all I can do to stay awake. And this TV does NOT have HD channels. Ugh. More updates to follow over the next few days.

CRAP! Have I made a mistake before surgery?
Bariatric surgery is every bit as much "weight gain prevention surgery" as it is "weight loss surgery." If you can document a history of morbid obesity, there's absolutely no reason an insurance company would deny you because you suddenly lost a bunch of weight. Your history would prove conclusively that you WILL gain it all back. Conversely, if you don't have a history of morbid obesity, and you just put on a bunch of weight in the last year or so, no insurance company would approve you because it's still possible the weight gain is temporary and your dieting will be successful.

Surgery Cancelled
How in the hell did you get to the point of being opened up before they discovered cirrhosis of the liver to such an extent that it was safer to close you up than just to finish the surgery? Did they not do a pre-op blood screen? Something doesn't add up here.

What made you choose?
I feel gross. I don't want to feel gross anymore.

wine pre op
Surgery on Monday for me, too. My only restriction is clear fluids after noon on Sunday and then nothing after midnight. I intend to eat something truly, offensively unhealthy for dinner Saturday night. It will be so unhealthy that it will cause nightmares in children, and women will sob openly at the sight of it. Then I will enjoy a fifth of bourbon, simply because I can. Just kidding. I'll probably have some tacos and a few beers. I'm going to miss both of those terribly.

Guys, what do you consider your ideal pants size ?
Dude! Hell yeah! That's awesome! I'm a tight 48 today with surgery scheduled for Monday morning. My goal is a 34-36. The last time I wore that size was 4th or 5th grade.

Post op 13 days....gaining weight?!
Agreed. I don't own a scale now, and I have no plans to buy one after surgery next week. My progress will be measured in the size of my clothes and how I look naked.

Psych Appointment tomorrow....nervous!
I would hope a psychologist can distinguish between ADHD and psychopathic behavior. If they can't, there's some bigger issues that need to be addressed. lol

stomach spasms 6 days post op
"Doctor, it hurts when I do this!" "Then don't do that." Maybe you're not ready for soups yet.

A week from now...
I'm going to pay some guy to cut out my stomach. Suddenly this seems like a bad idea. lol. PS: bourbon. PPS: I'm going to do it anyway. PPPS: Fuck the Giants. #gocowboys

Humiliated for last time
Dunno if this helps, but I would have smacked the shit out of my kid if they did that. Being rude is not okay.

August 11th!
The date is set. Now I can start to freak out. lol

Drinking alcohol post-op, your experiences?
Dude here. There's a thread in the guys' forum about this topic as well. The consensus opinion I've found on this is that you can drink anything you want if you can handle it, but don't expect to lose as much weight that way. I fully intend to have a couple fingers of bourbon every now and then after my surgery. Maybe even a cigar. What's the point of adding 20 years to my life if I can't enjoy it?

Anthem bcbs through home depot
Anthem's standard policy doesn't require a 3 month physician-supervised diet, but it's certainly possible that Home Depot added it to their policy. My suggestion would be to call Anthem's pre-authorization department (the number should be on the back of your member card) and confirm that requirement. Then I would call your surgeon's office insurance coordinator and find out why they didn't know about that requirement from the beginning. That's their ONE job.

Approved by Anthem BCBS
It took just over two months from the initial consultation to insurance approval. Here's their policy: http://www.anthem.com/medicalpolicies/policies/mp_pw_a053317.htm Surgery will be in a couple weeks!

Cracking up on liquid only diet
Be careful not to overdo it since your stomach is still healing, but if you tolerated those foods fine, it's probably okay to have them. Run it by your surgeon's office to be sure, of course.

Dont want to eat
Don't take this the wrong way, but isn't that the point? You need to drink your Water of course but not wanting to eat is a GOOD thing. This is showtime, the time when you're going to be losing the most weight in the least amount of time! Try to get some Protein in to help the low energy problem, but otherwise just relax and enjoy the weight loss. As others have said, your appetite will increase soon enough.

No sex drive
You really didn't give any details from which to form a hypothesis. Are there other complications like pain or general lethargy? What happens when you try to initiate sex? Does he refuse you?

Life since VSG surgery Sept 2011
Hang in there, man.

Very minor topic, but Surgery Scars?
I think you meant "chicks dig scars." If they liked scary things, I wouldn't have to have this surgery. lol

Post 1 week weight loss was low? Disappointed
The best thing you could do is throw away your scale. Only check your weight when you visit your doctor. You're only a week into this and already obsessing over numbers. Nothing good can come of that.

Am I being too sensitive?
My explanation is simple: I'm not doing this to lose weight. I'm doing it to prolong and improve my life. Weight loss is just the means to that end. I like to think of it as "early death prevention surgery" instead of "weight loss surgery." Looking sexy will just be a fun bonus.

Denied by Blue Shield of CA as "Not Medically Necessary"
Ask Blue Shield to provide you with their policy for bariatric surgery and review it carefully. For example, Anthem BCBS posts theirs here. If they've denied you for reasons not explicitly stated in their policy as reasons they can deny service, you should immediately appeal. If they still deny you after appeal based on reasons not stated in their policy, you should consider hiring an attorney or going to the local media. It's not okay for a company to make a policy and then refuse to follow it when they just don't feel like it.
