steph0315 got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in Secret Surgery
My husband knows and my best friend knows. I was very angry to discover that she told her husband, but I'm pretty sure it won't go further than that. I have been exercising like crazy for the past few months to improve my health and don't want to hear anyone's BS ( including my very thin and judgmental mother) about me taking the easy way out. I bust my butt. It's certainly not easy.

    I'm not "hiding" anything.
    No, I'm not embarrassed.
    No, it's not a "secret".
I *DID* do this on my own. Yes, I had surgery, but no one weighed and measured my food, tracked my intake, ran my miles, danced my Zumba, lifted my weights, swam my miles, or did any of the other work I had to do to lose 110+ pounds last year. My surgery was a tool, a really super awesome tool that I will be forever grateful for, but I lost the weight, no one did it for me.
Why have I not made my surgery public knowledge? Because it's none of anyone's business. I have so many more things about me that are *MUCH* more interesting than my surgery. I am a successful business owner with 300+ women on my team, I am a mom of two gifted teens who I am very proud of, I am a volunteer for a women's shelter, I am a martial arts training instructor, I have a pet hedgehog who is as cranky as they come, I can move both of my eyes independently of the other, I can sing songs in sign language, I hate getting dirty but I have a new love for doing mud runs, I am white Water certified in kayaking, I can do the splits in all three directions, I've been married to the same man for 20 years and haven't attempted murder yet, I have a wicked sense of humor and can insult you five ways to Sunday and you'll thank me for it without even realizing it.
I have no desire to explain (to people who really aren't truly interested) what a sleeve is, how it works, why they really don't know someone whose mother's best friend's cousin's neighbor's brother's wife's dentist died from this surgery/gained back all their weight/was malnourished/has seizures/never lost a pound/etc, nor do I care to explain my portion size, justify why I eat what I eat, answer the question "are you allowed to eat that" every time I put something in my mouth...
I don't talk about my pooping habits with the general public or my menstrual cycle, my gall bladder attack, why I used to pee when I sneezed, my IUD, my sore boobs during PMS, etc. I don't talk about the size of my hubby's package, how often we do the do, where we conceived our children, what we fight about when we fight, how much money I make, how much money he makes, my IQ, what brand of handbag I carry most often, or how much I spend on shoes annually, either.
    Any other questions?

Started this journey on May 5th wearing an 16/18 pant. I just left the store with a size 12 in hand. This is truly amazing as I cannot remember the last time I wore a size 12. This is a great day!!! Just had to share..... Size 10 here I come!

The part of our stomach they remove is the fundus. This is the stretchy rubbery part that expands like a balloon to accommodate what we put in there. After surgery, we are left with a tube that really doesn't" give" much. So when you drink carbonated beverages, the bubbles really have no place to go. Go ahead and try to drink something carbonated to see what happens. I did....a couple swallows of beer. And no, I didn't explode (or die) but it sure didn't feel good. I even tried letting sprite sit on ice for 15 minutes and stirred it up to try and defizz it. It wasn't enough. Still too many bubbles.

I am two weeks post op. For the past week, I have either walked 4 miles each day or have used the elliptical machine for 45 minutes. I feel so much happier when I exercise.

Oh, i too was sleeved on June 30. I lost ten pounds within the first five days after surgery and haven't lost an ounce since. But, my calorie intake is low and I work out every day, so I am confident that it's just a matter of time before the scale starts moving again. It is a but disappointing though. I would have preferred a slower, more steady weight loss.

I would be interested in a private group. Only my husband knows I've had this procedure.

I had my sleeve done on June 30. My sense of smell is out of control. It was my first pregnancy symptom so my husband keeps freaking out, but I am certain it is from the surgery somehow. I am very glad that you're feeling better with your other health conditions. I feel really good, but I tire easily, so I have decided to take another week off work. I have been walking 4 miles a day; I'm slower than I was before, mostly because I'm afraid of overdoing it.
    Take care!

So, at 3 months on a holiday weekend you ate some junk food. It was not a "mistake" and you are not a "failure." It was a choice. Yeah, it probably wasn't a great choice, but you'll make a different choice tomorrow that fits better with what you want your nutritional goal to be for the day. (The biggest reason it wasn't a GREAT choice is not because you "failed," it's because your sleeve is a little too delicate yet to be feeding it what you fed it!)
At 3 years, I am still "strict" with myself. But the difference now is that I don't look at food as "good" or "bad." Food is food. I allow myself junk foods, but I set weekly/monthly limits. For instance, once I've had fast food four times in the month, that's it until a new month. Or like ice cream because it was one of my hugest trigger foods. It is not allowed in my house ever again. But I can have it twice a month, as long as I have it out somewhere. I tell you this because there is no longer any "guilt" in eating these foods--guilt that I have carried my whole life over eating something that society calls bad--and it feels so good to be free of it. And you will be too. . .

steph0315 got a reaction from BeagleLover in Monster in my belly?
That sounds horrible. Good luck to you. I took the liquid pain meds last night for the first time, and it made my stomach spasm uncontrollably. Nothing else had caused a reaction like that. If you're unable to contact your doctor today, maybe try easing up on the meds? Maybe that will make your sensitive stomach feel a bit better? Sorry for your troubles.

Good luck to us all tomorrow! I am spending most of the day today with my husband and two toddlers, then a painting date with my best friend. I woke up crazily hungry today but am doing well otherwise. Must be at hospital at 5 am for 7 am surgery. I hope everyone's procedure is complication free and the recovery is smooth.
