  1. I am 7 weeks post sleeve.. I just had appointment with my doctor. He said chronic headaches (I have also been having) could mean that we aren't getting enough fluids in. So if you are doing intense work outs you even need more fluids to balance it.

Interesting! Did not know that. I know I have been borderline on getting my fluids and I have definitely stepped up the workout training for Warrior Dash and another 5K I'm doing this summer. I'll try to bump up the fluids for a few days and see if that helps. Thanks for the input!

  2. Waiting is one of the hardest parts. Seems like we're always waiting on something. But you can use this time to do your own research and formulate questions for your NUT when you get the consult. Make grocery list, learn to log your food (I recommend myfitnesspal.com), start looking up recipes. Find alternatives for foods like Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Use this time to prepare yourself and it will help the time fly by.

  3. Hmmmm interesting because that's how I used to feel about smoking. I smoked for about 10 years and honestly, I loved it. I knew it was dangerous, knew I stank, knew it was a waste of money. BUT....I loved it and I didn't want to change. Sure, I tried quitting many times, but I never truly wanted to and that played a big part in failing every time.

As a matter of fact, I do believe I would still be smoking today if I had been allowed to proceed with my surgery without quitting. Thankfully, my doc required nicotine tests for 90 days prior to surgery. WLS was what tipped the scale in my desire to quit smoking. And now that I'm on a path to a healthier life and I'm free of that addiction, I would never dream of going back to it.

So I can relate to him. I guess many of us have something we know is bad but we just don't want to quit. It takes finding something you want more that makes it worthwhile. I guess if he's happy with his life, more power to him!

  4. @@LipstickLady and @@CowgirlJane

I gotta say thanks to both of you not just for your replies in this thread but others I've seen around. Your responses always make sense and add a level of sensibility to the conversation (or comic relief when needed).

While I agree the thread does become available for anyone to twist it to their desires, I do wish people would pay attention before posting. Personal pet peeve I'll just have to live with I guess.

Ok, who's next for the punching bag?

  5. Not to ask for TMI but you may be experiencing some Constipation. Our bodies can hold like 8 lbs of waste and if you just started eating solid foods, that could be the reason. Keep up your Fluid intake and things will move along including the needle on the scale.

Oh, also search around this site for the "dreaded 3 week stall". That should at least alleviate any fears you have about this because it's perfectly normal and almost everyone goes through it.

  6. Has anyone experienced daily headaches after surgery?

I'm 4.5 months post op. I take a Flintstones chewable Vitamin, VitronC Iron supplement, actigal (can't remember the exact name), protonix, D3, allegra, and zyrtec. I also get my Protein and fluids daily and around 1K calories. I had my surgery in another state so I can't see my surgeon but I do have an appointment with a new doc 4/13. Went ahead and set up that appointment because I know I'm due for blood work by 6 months post op. My blood work at 6 weeks post op was fine with D & Iron being low, which is normal for me.

Just curious if anyone else has any experience or insight?

I do exercise on average about 5 times a week varying between intense cardio and strength training. Not sure if all this info is relevant but better safe than sorry.

Seems like every day for the last 2-3 weeks my head hurts. I think it's probably allergies because it's in the forehead/temple area and I have a history of chronic sinus issues and allergies but I'm worried it could be something with a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

    Any thoughts?

  7. OP, I understand what you're trying to say, and I agree to a certain extent. For me, it's not so much the small mistakes, it's the major mistakes that make someone's post difficult to read. In some cases, the posts are so difficult to parse that by the time I've finished attempting to figure out what they're trying to ask/say, I don't remember the original topic. I hate to say it, but sometimes, I just take one look and hit the back button.

I don't have a problem with an ellipsis or two, since I also use them. I have seen people that put one at the end of every single sentence in place of other punctuation, though, and that drives me up a wall.

THIS is exactly my point, the major stuff that makes it almost impossible to understand what is being asked.

I'd like to also point out to the majority of those that have posted here disagreeing with me, that you must not have read the thread in its entirety or you didn't comprehend what was being discussed. There are actually very few posters here that have responded to what I actually said instead of what they assumed I meant. I think it's hilarious so many people want to tell me that spending 5 minutes writing a vent about something so unimportant as grammar makes me a horrible person. How much time did you take out of your day to respond to something so unimportant?

Personally, if you feel this topic is that important, then perhaps you should take it up as a social obligation to educate everyone on why it is OK to eliminate proper grammar and allow the English language to dissolve.

If you posted about my lack of concern for cultural differences, you obviously missed my response to that.

If you posted about my lack of concern for multiple languages or language barriers, you obviously missed my response to that.

If you posted about people posting new threads for questions that have already been asked, you obviously missed my response to that.

If you posted about cursive fonts, I applaud your attempt at comic relief and agree with you even though I have been guilty at times.

To those of you that actually paid attention to the true points of this thread......I think some of you had some intelligent responses and they definitely give a person a reason to pause and reconsider their view point. I won't say I agree, but I understand your point of view and I don't disagree. Thanks for taking the time to read and provide thoughtful responses.

  8. I love how you claim to want a conversation with Emma yet you quoted me. I guess it's a good reminder of why I don't offer apologies easily. The person receiving them rarely takes the time to consider what has been said.

You are absolutely correct about everyone here is seeking attention to an extent. I'll say it again, doesn't matter what you say, it's how you say it. If you'd like self-righteous attention for calling me out on wasting precious internet space complaining about grammar, then go ahead, you got it.

I would have preferred more intelligent conversation such as the topics about cultural differences or interpreting disabilities in an online forum. Now those have potential for great conversation. As for taking the time to vent in the first place, it occupied me when I had free time. That free time is done so I do hope everyone has a great day. Thanks to those of you that took a minute to consider what was said and intended.

  9. Disabilities, second language, mental barriers, I'm not referring to any of those.

So on an online forum, how do you know? :D

I wouldn't which is why I wouldn't call out anyone specifically.

I don't think anyone is understanding which posts I'm referring to. I thought people would actually read and relate to the example I made up. This was not about grammar in general. It was about a very specific type of post that blatantly disregards the English language out of sheer laziness.

  10. @@une nouvelle vie

Ok Ok calm down... you're partially right. I was wrong to jump on you like that and I am sorry (see I can be pleasant).

However, I don't understand people that go out of their way to post that they don't post here anymore because of what they're reading. If it offends you so much, why would you take the time to respond? I'm not being rhetorical, I would genuinely appreciate input on why people jump into threads just to complain about the person complaining and tell everyone that is the reason they don't frequent this site anymore. This is very relevant to my first topic of jumping in for the sake of attention. That may not be the case but it's how it appears to me.

Yes, I complained about a very unimportant factor in an online community. I was venting because I had read another thread where the OP was being badgered about their opinion because someone was offended even though the original post had nothing to do with what they were offended by. And while I was venting I laid it all out there. Now everyone may think I'm a grammar tyrant but that's not the case. I am seriously only referring to the post that are full of blatant laziness and lack of self respect for the way they are presented in an online community. I believe I have said that a few times in this thread already (or some variation thereof).

I stand by my statement that ignorance is not an excuse. I do mean genuine ignorance by those that have the ability to learn but are too lazy to do so. Disabilities, second language, mental barriers, I'm not referring to any of those. As a matter of fact, that is the reason I would never dare say something to someone outside of a vent in the appropriate section.

  11. I think everyone is missing the severity of the posts I'm referring to. Honestly, if you have a paragraph with more than 3 periods and a couple commas, I'm not going to pay attention to much else. It's the ones that are blatantly written in ignorance of the English language that make me cringe.

Editing to add that of course there may be a language barrier if English is not your first language. That is usually obvious and not what I am referring to. I applaud anyone that has the discipline to learn more than one language.

  12. I don't believe in coddling people and their ignorance because they never had an opportunity to learn. The world is at their fingertips and if they don't know they're doing something wrong, they can't fix it. Encouraging it to continue because "they don't know better" does more harm than good.

Well then, it seems to me that we will see a lot of you correcting a lot of people on this forum. Otherwise, it would just be coddling them, wouldn't it?

    ;)

eh I dont' think not calling them out is coddling them. Just like someone asking me if a shirt makes them look fat. If it does, I'll say yes. If they don't ask, I won't say anything.

  13. I guess I also need to contradict myself.....I have on multiple occasions answered questions written in the form of my example. Only when I can actually tell what is being asked. Most of the posts I'm referring to make it difficult to actually understand what is being asked. That's the point of grammar right? To make it so we can communicate effectively with each other. So to the reference of denying people information based on their grammar, yes according to my original post that would be correct. In reality it is not the case. Nor have I ever called anyone out in a post about the way things were written unless it involved the tone it was written in instead of the form.

  14. Yes, it is easier to read a post with good grammar. However some people have not had the opportunity to learn good grammar. They should feel comfortable here anyway. This isn't Harvard Law Review.

Perhaps you could consider blocking posts from members whose grammar continually offends you.

I think most folks here have already experienced enough criticism and are here looking for a safe place to become more informed.

This is so perfectly stated and true (in my opinion) that I had to quote it in its entirety.

I don't come around here that much anymore and part of that is because of some of the backbiting and criticism just for the sake of complaining that I've witnessed. I truly believe that most people are doing the best they can based on the knowledge they have and it's sad to me that we have those who want to complain about grammar of all things. Some people are struggling right where they are in life and we have people who want them to use the internet to educate themselves about grammar before they'll deign to answer their questions.

So many things I'd like to say on it but why add more negativity? Instead I'll thank you again @@emma4884, for your kind response.

I really must thank you for going out of your way to return to this website, go out of the way of the main topics, all the way to rants and raves, to pick up my vent (clearly stated it was a vent) that included multiple topics, just to enlighten us that this is the reason you don't come around anymore. Perhaps you should read my #1 topic first.

  15. Ok I agree with all of you that this is just a forum and not Harvard or a business class........but........it's not just this forum I'm particularly referring to. I actually had to put effort into creating a poorly written paragraph because I use proper grammar everywhere else. It's habit. So if they're writing like this on this forum, it's my opinion this is how they are presenting themselves in all aspects.

I don't believe in coddling people and their ignorance because they never had an opportunity to learn. The world is at their fingertips and if they don't know they're doing something wrong, they can't fix it. Encouraging it to continue because "they don't know better" does more harm than good.

  16. I have to add one more thing about the grammar. It's not typos or misspellings that bug me, it’s mostly the misuse of words (an for and) or the sentences/questions that never end. Use a period for crying out loud! Ok, that’s all for that.

    Babbs....totally agree

  17. I

I guess I am one of those who doesn't mind answering questions, because I was there once, as well. So it takes up a bit of time. I've been sick this past month, so what else do I have to do? If I can help someone, I will. My problem. If I can't take the time to help, what does that make me? When I first started on this site, I didn't know about the search option, so I didn't use it. I admit I am pretty naïve about computer crap. And I don't wish to get too educated on it, either! I also try and answer those questions, if I can, that no one else seems to reply to, and that is because I don't want anyone to feel abandoned. This surgery stuff is very scary, even for us who have been operated on dozens of times. It's a scary thing to go it alone. Stupid to do it? Patient enough to care? Wasting my time? Mine to waste, mine to care, NEVER alone...

Ok, you have a good point about those that might not be as comfortable with search options or computer savvy knowledge. That I can overlook. And actually, the main thing that bugs me is that we could all benefit from keeping some threads concentrated into one thread instead of 15 different ones. If everyone posted their opinion on one thread, then everyone on that thread could see it. But if some post here, and some post there, and some more post over there, then we may not see everything and could be missing out on valuable information. I try to respond or read a lot of them even if they are repeats, and I've seen a few others that do the same. I just wish we could centralize some of the main topics I guess. I love the new forum about stalls, that's a perfect example of what I'm talking about. It may be multiple threads, but at least there is a central location to discuss something almost everyone questions at some point. Maybe in the future more will pop up like that as topics become obvious (i.e. To weigh or not to weigh)
