You look Great!!! Wear that dress with confidence...
  3. For me it was this nurse with a thick Romanian-type accent BEGGING me to "fill the container", if you catch my drift. Apparently I had to prove I could "go", before they would let me... well, go. I wanted to get out of the hospital as fast as I could but was afraid to push it because I didn't want to hurt myself. Every time I would be in the bathroom, the nurse would knock on the door and say "How you do-ink in dere? Any-tink yet?", to which I usually responded, "that isn't really helping me, thank you." When I finally was able to go was when she stopped trying to talk to me through the door, and as I walked out of the bathroom there she was - with three other nurses - giving me an ovation and saying "Tank God! What a good boy!". I said "Your welcome. If you have any more that need filling, just bring them in."

  9. That title might be an obscure reference, but fans of THE WHO will get it... Got on the scale this morning and saw the number: 252. Though My surgery date was June 11th I actually started this journey back in October 2013 with my first official weigh-in with my surgeon when I was 354. Officially hit the 100 lbs. lost mark... I'm not much for "selfies" but maybe I'll post some before/after soon. Just extremely happy and proud of myself, which has never been an easy thing for for me to say or admit. Thanks for the forum to share these feelings and not be judged. VERY important to start light exercise once you feel well enough; I'm walking 1.5 - 2 miles a day and lifting light free weights each morning, which takes only about an hour or so of time, and I'm sure its what helped be break that wall I hit a few weeks back.

    Questions about net calorie intake

I wouldn't push it too much, though. It really depends on the diet your surgeon/nutritionist recommended for you. In my case, i was to average 600-700 calories weeks 2-3 then bump it to 800 by week 4. My nutritionist said "your calorie counting days are over; just listen to your body and eat the proper portions - your sleeve will let you know when you've had enough". Intense cardio every day this soon after surgery seems a bit much - the weight WILL come off. I applaud your commitment, so know I'm in your corner - just take it easy and don't try to rush the results. Best of luck!
  11. The answer to you actual question: NO - apparently no one who has read your posts has experienced a similar situation, and neither have I. My advice would be to do yourself ( and the rest of us) a favor and wait until someone replies that HAS experienced a similar situation and replies with what you want to hear, and kindly ignore the rest of us.

    Outpatients? No overnight stay

The key here is whether you're paying out of pocket or its covered by insurance. Unfortunately, many hospitals will keep you the extra night(s) because they can bang the insurance company for it; if the patient is paying themselves (a) it's more than most of us can afford and ( they want to make sure they're getting paid. I bet if you look it up, most people released the same day did not have insurance covering the costs.

    Any New Yorkers? Long Island!

Also, i was slated for 2 nights in the Hospital (Manhassett, not Syosset - all part of LIJ just a scheduling thing) but only had to stay for one; my procedure was very early in the morning and I left by 4 pm the following day. Apparently they need to see that you can urinate before they release you.

    Any New Yorkers? Long Island!

Im feeling pretty good actually, I sent this email to a friend yesterday describing how things have progressed so far: "Feeling much better than I thought I would, though the first 2-3 days are tough because everything's so sore - getting in/out of bed & chairs can be painful but once I was up or down the pain went away pretty quickly. Lots of walking and sleeping in the beginning, and only allowed to have Clear liquids ( Water, sugar free Jello, broth, occasionally an ice pop ). By day four I started feeling normal again, and 8 days removed I can honestly say I feel close to normal again. The sharp pangs every time I try to stand or twist in a funny way are all but gone, and my energy level is pretty good ( though I get easily tired if I push myself, and I definitely have become a fan of afternoon naps). I Still have to be careful and do everything SLOWLY - eat, move, shower, etc. - because I can hurt myself. I'm finally able to sleep in my bed, too - a little ahead of schedule for my surgeon's taste but I couldn't take the recliner anymore. I'll be on liquids only for another couple of weeks, which is a diet of 4 Protein shakes and one other small meal (broth, or a yogurt, or pureed non-acidic soups) for an average of 660 calories & 70-80 grams of protein a day. I can move on to soft foods after that for two weeks, then the normal stuff. I never thought I'd look so forward to being able to have a 1/4 lb. Cup of low fat tuna salad. But the biggest thing is EATING SLOWLY... If I even take too big a sip of water my chest feels like its exploding. On Monday I accidentally swallowed a teaspoon of lemon-lime jello without chewing first and it took me a half hour to recover. Anyway, graphic details aside it really hasn't been as bad as it sounds and its not as much of a struggle as I had anticipated. It definitely helps to have someone for the first few days to help you around and be there just in case." So that's where I stand. As for my doctor, I went to the LIJ Bariatric Center in Syosset and my surgeon is Dr. Heather McMullen. Very nice, caring and available to talk when things come up. I'd highly recommend her. She's part of Dr. Geiss' team but she's the only one in the practice who performs the sleeve.

Hi - Hicksville resident here. Sleeved last week on 6/11.

    Post Op June 2014 Sleevers

Hi folks - Had the surgery on 6/11. Started the pre-op testing (cardio, pulmonary, specialists, psych, etc.) back in January but hit a snag with insurance that postponed my date for over a month. Started in mid-January at 348 lbs: date of surgery weight was 295 ( thanks to an extended liquid diet because of the delay ) and now around 290. Its only been 5 days so my body must be going through an adjustment. I'm staying off the scale for a while until I start feeling more "normal" again.

    Protein shakes

    Good luck!

    Protein shakes

I really enjoyed the shakes with soy or almond milk pre-op, but I've had the same issue since the surgery (June 11th). I use powder mix, and simply switching to water made them go down a lot easier - less frothy, easier to swallow and felt like it took up less room in the pouch. If you're already mixing with water, try adding more ( adding 12 oz. instead of 8oz.) and subtracting that amount from your water intake between meals. Hope this helps.
