  1. Why don't you invent that Mini? You would be a gazillionaire!!!!
  2. Dee, you never did tell us what the interview was for? Or is it top secret classified information until you find out the results? (Cue James Bond music...)
  3. Lotza-Happy belated anniversary, I hope you had a good time on your date. And good luck on being an auntie!! Being an auntie is great isn't it? I will keep your dad in my prayers.
  4. Oh Dee, that is terrible. I have been on the receiving end of a few rude comments from patients lately, so I know how you feel-although none of them have been so awful as that. And that other charge should have NEVER repeated what that awful woman said! That mom should be grateful that you are taking the time and putting the effort into showing her the right things to do so nothing happens with her baby. People are shameless. We had a little 6 year old that was post appy last night, and his mom was WIERD. He couldn't void for the first few hours after he got back from surgery. We were making him go in the urinal because he was still groggy from anesthesia. Mom kept saying he couldn't go because of the urinal, we told her he probably couldn't go because of the anesthesia. After I took them over from another nurse, I let her carry him into the bathroom and set him on the toilet. Of course he went. Which was fine. What was not fine was that she said in this really sarcastic mocking voice "Oh, he couldn't go from the anesthesia. You nurses think you know everything." I couldn't belive it. How can people be SO rude? They need to think before they open their mouths. And darn it-they need to appreciate the nurses who are taking darn good care of their LOVED ones!!!! (Also, she complained that the IV phenergan I gave him made his vomiting even worse, "projectile" she said. Well, when the surgeon finally rounded he had a long talk with her about the after effects of anesthesia, and how it is probably actually causing all these things to happen. Go surgeon!):crying:
  5. Dorky- First and foremost know that I love you and I am here for you. Second, you can be antidepressant buddies with Shelbi and I. It will be our new club. Third-I will fess up and tell you that I ate Ben & Jerrys this week too. See, doesn't that make you feel a teensy bit better? Fourth-Everyone thinks I am younger than I am too. I once had a patient ask me "Are you even old enough to have graduated from nursing school?" This is when I was 30! You have to love it sometimes, right? Last, your issues are not petty. And we are your support group. You know you can come here anytime and vent to us and we will be here for you. And get your butt to Bettendorf to visit your Aunt and Uncle so we can hang! (We will get carded everywhere since we are apparently 12!)
  6. Mini-I haven't read past this post yet, so I don't know if this got resolved, but I hate to hear you sad like this-it makes me want to cry. As you well know, my husband is bipolar and has substance abuse issues so I am all to familiar with the feelings you are having right now. I am so sorry for you. Just remember we all love you, ok?
  7. Puff Mama-I am down 2 pounds for the week, no doubt because of the gastroenteritis I had in the beginning of the week and the fact that now I just don't want to eat because I am one huge ball of anxiety. Sigh... Off to get ready for work gals! Have a good night!
  8. So this morning I took Brutus out to the county animal shelter to get his license and rabies vaccination, because somehow the paperwork for his other rabies vaccination got lost in the shuffle at the other shelter when I adopted him. When I got out of the car, the county animal control officer was standing there talking to the other animal control officer for the city where I live. They both started commenting on how beautiful and good Brutus is, and I promptly started bawling. So I told the other city animal control officer the whole story of the neighbors, how Brutus was severely malnourished and abused when I adopted him, etc. She was pretty sympathetic and suggested a few things. She told me to attempt to get a kennel license through the city, but that is going to be harder than we thought because of zoning issues. She also suggested that I get a foster home license through the State of Illinois. I got home, printed that application out, put the check in with it, and sent it off as soon as I was done. So hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am still going to try the kennel license-she told me if I had to, to lie and say that I was keeping Brutus there as a stud dog for breeding purposes (it doesn't ask anywhere on the app if the animals are neutered or not.) But it does sound like it won't work because of zoning. The zoning people and the animal control officer both have to sign off on it. But, if the zoning people only come and walk around my property, I don't see what the harm would be. The animal control officer just repeated the same thing as the other one-make sure my yard is pristinely clean (which it is) and make sure they are not barking. I will get bark collars for all of them if I have to if it means I get to keep them! (As much as I hate those things!)
  9. Wow Bella, fantastic weight loss!! But make sure your band isn't too tight! I am glad things seem to have calmed down. And yes, you are right-it is not about the dogs-they ARE trying to break me until I move. Unfortunately moving is financially not an option at this point so I guess I just have to take this crap from them. But like I said before, there is really not anything worse they can do to me than have one of my dogs taken away, so they will running out of any ammunition that will actually harm me after that. And yes, the are EVIL. Oh, and I have tried to find dirty laundry on them to no avail.
  10. Apparently it only exists on the Iowa side of the river, not over here.
  11. Denver-you make an excellent point. How is me losing one dog going to improve their life? It doesn't make any sense!!
  12. Cool, I'm glad it's taken care of!!
  13. Ok, so here is what I found out about the dog situation. It was my dads friend that was the animal control officer that came to the house about the complaint. He said it was an anonymous complaint. Go figure that they wouldn't even have the balls to leave their names!! Anyway, he said he does not put much effort into following up on anonymous complaints because he feels people should fess up to who they are if they are complaining. He came while I was gone yesterday, looked around my yard, saw it was clean, etc, and decided he would not pursue the matter any further. HOWEVER, he said if they complain again (and they most assuredly will) that they will send a different animal control officer who will make me comply with city code. So, now I just have to sit here and WAIT for these horrible people to pull the rug out from under my feet. I went to my therapist today and he basically concurred that these people clearly are not right and that they will probably not stop with one phone call to animal control. So I was a mess in my therapy appt, bawling the whole time. I am now officially back on antidepressants. Shelbi, they put me on Pristiq too. We are antidepressant twins! I was surprised he did not put me back on Effexor but he said Pristiq works just like Effexor only it is one pill a day. I am good with that since I am horrible at remembering to take pills. I can't stand just sitting here waiting for the other shoe to drop. I told Bob that the only good things about this are that A) they will be running out of ammunition and :w00t: anything they do to me after this will pale in comparison to this if one of my dogs has to go to a different home. If I do have to get rid of one dog and I am in compliance, they will not be able to get me in trouble for that any longer, and the GLOVES WILL BE COMING OFF. I have not wanted to stoop to their level during this whole ordeal, but the time has come to not put up with this anymore if one of my dogs has to leave.
  14. I am always perplexed by this whole leaving the needle thing in because my doc doesn't do that. Maybe he should at the rate our fills go here!! Although the drinking water test does not really seem to work with me either as I don't usually feel my fills until a few days later for some reason. I am wierd, go figure!! :w00t:
  15. They do suck in the worst way!! They are evil, horrible people!! When I came home awhile ago I was talking on my cell phone, and the wife was at the house next door, and she stood in the garage door eavesdropping, like I wouldn't be able to see her! Freaks!!
  16. Hmmm...I have to concur that they won't do anything much about it since it is the pinky toe. If it was your big toe maybe, but not any other toes. Sorry chickie!! I hope it is feeling better even though it probably isn't I am guessing!
  17. I was going to say the same thing as Mini-that most brain masses are not malignant. That doesn't make it any easier though.
  18. Ok, now everytime my dogs even bark when they are playing I am totally paranoid. I cannot live like this!!
  19. Yes, I will certainly be praying for you. Hang in there and let me know if you have any quesions, although neuro stuff is definitely not my specialty. However, it is the specialty of a few nurses I work with, including one who worked in the neuro ICU at Mayo. My goodness, what else can happen this week? (Wait, I don't want to know.)
  20. Let me know if the acupuncture works. Acupuncture fascinates me and I have had patients who swear by it. I thought it wasn't supposed to hurt though? :smile2:
  21. Yes, I know the drill, but I also know at my hospital people usually aren't invited to shadow unless they are in! Good luck!!
  22. Deb and Dee-it is just SHITTY of them!!!! I will probably end up in the psych ward for depression if one of my dogs gets taken away! No joke!! I was physically ill when I saw the card from animal control-I promptly went in the bathroom and tossed my dinner up! Hateful people! The lab rescue gal said that this happened to her before her rescue was properly set up, and it was her neighbor that complained also. She said that since the animal control officers could not justifiably prove that she was not taking care of any of the animals, that they wouldn't remove any of them from her. She also said that she made the point that some people can care for 10 dogs better than other people can care for one-which makes a mockery of the numbers rule. I completely agree with that! Anyway, when they didn't remove any of the dogs her neighbor called and complained again, saying that the animal control officers hadn't acted on the original complaint. I plan on calling them first thing in the morning, having my vet records ready, telling them to call my vet, the humane society where I got Jake and Brutus from, anything to help my case! I know either of them will not want to see either of those dogs get removed from me!!
  23. Well, the gal that runs the lab rescue responded to me already. She said across the river, they have an "excess numbers license" you can get to have more pets than allowed. We just don't know if they have one on this side of the river. So I guess time will tell.
  24. I think if they invited you to shadow your interview went a little better than well! You are a shoe in!! Woo hoo!! I know logically that karma will get them in the end-that is what I have told my husband over the last few years while things have been escalating, but WHEN? Seriously, how much can these people do to me and my family? (That is what my dogs are like to me-they are like my kids, that is why this is sooo devastating to me!)
