Albany GA bandsters - speak up...

That would be great if she could come, maybe she could help us figure out how to do these meetings. I know I got this started, but I have no clue how to plan what we do at these meetings. This first one is basically just a "get to know each other meeting". I really wish Dr. Bagnatos office could plan some sort of monthly support group meeting, maybe at the hospital or something. I know that would be a further drive for some, but maybe if it was early enough and didn't last too terribly long, it wouldn't be so bad once a month. Maybe you could mention that to her or if you would rather me do it, I'll mention it? For now we'll just stick to our Tifton meetings.
  2. Renewed, you look wonderful!!! Ok guys, I came up with a new tuna recipe. I'm eating it as we speak. I posted it in the recipe forum but I thought I would share it with you all. I'm trying to get some variety in my tuna and this recipe reminds me of Tuna Helper without the noodles. It's nothing fancy, but it adds a little variety to it. Cheesy Tuna Ingredients: 1 small can of tuna in Water, drained well 1 Tbsp. sour cream 2 Tbsp. milk 1/4 cup shredded cheese (whatever kind you prefer) Put milk, sour cream, and shredded cheese in a small microwavable bowl and microwave for about 1 to 1&1/2 minutes. Stir until creamy. If it's too thick add a splash more milk, if it's too thin add a little more cheese. Mix in tuna well and enjoy! You could also add some dry seasonings or spices to it if you want, but I like it plain.

    The Joy Fit Club %$#@&

I can be irritated by something and not harbor anger about it. That's 2 completely different feelings, at least for me it is. I was way more sensitive to what other people thought when I first got banded and I haved learned to overlook negative comments by those who know nothing about WLS. I think the comment from the show that I was refering to was made a couple of months ago (not sure exactly). A couple of months ago, when I heard that comment, it did make me angry. That's when I realized that these people really don't have a clue as to what we go through. It still irritates me, but it's not something that consumes me, does that make sense?
  4. Hey Kat! I'm from Georgia too, and I also used Dr. Bagnato. Him and his entire staff is wonderful! Wow, your surgery is only a week away! Are you getting excited? I found that the sugar busters diet was very easy to follow. The sugar and caffeine withdrawals are the worst! My advice, keep them out of diet from now on, so you don't have to go through it again. All of us Albany Bansters have a thread in the local usa Georgia forum. Feel free to jump in and introduce yourself. Here's the link if you want to check it out. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f31/albany-ga-bandsters-speak-up-45625/ We're actually starting up a support group and we would love for you to join us. All the information is in the above link. It was nice to meet you and good luck to you!
  5. Hi Brenda! Congratulations on your surgery date! I did the Sugar Busters Diet for 2 weeks prior to my surgery. I wouldn't worry about your liver being to large. If you stick to the plan, you should be fine. You diet seems to be low carb, which is good for shrinking the liver. My advice would be to just follow the diet instructions to the "T". Good luck with your pre-op diet and your surgery!

Me too! I think this is just what I need. None of my friends or family has had lapband surgery, so it will be nice to talk to people face to face about it!

    The Joy Fit Club %$#@&

I think it's wonderful when anyone loses weight. If someone is able to lose weight on their own, kudos to them, they deserve it, just as we do. However, it does irritate me how they imply that we are taking the easy way out. There was one lady on the show that said something along these lines, "these people did it the "old fashioned" way, they did not cheat by having surgery". Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but they clearly aren't very knowledgeable about WLS if they think it is easy. I think most of us are happy when someone loses weight, no matter how they do it. It's the insinuation that we "cheated" that upsets us. I've learned to overlook those comments, because I don't have to answer to anyone on this earth for my choices. I just wish people would research before they pass judgements on those of us that needed WLS in order to become healthier.

    LASIK, What a great experience

I had it done almost 8 years ago. I'm not sure what my vision was, but I do know that on my contact box the left eye was -4.50 and my right eye was -3.75. I see pretty much perfectly now. My eye doctor said I may need reading glasses soon, but it's not bothering me, so until it does, I won't worry about it.

    For those who have PCOS

Renewedhope, I have been on Actos plus Metformin for a week and a half now and I haven't had any problems either. I hope you are able to continue taking it and Congrats on the weight loss!!!

    Question for Those with PCOS:

I've been taking Actos plus Metformin for 1&1/2 weeks now (it's both medicines in one pill), and I haven't had any side effects or stomach problems. It seems to have helped with my weight loss too. I've lost 7 lbs in a week and I'm sure this medicine has something to do with it. I've never heard of Glumetza, so I'm sorry I can't help you with that. I hope it works well for you!
  14. Edamame is soooo good. I've never had it dry roasted before, but I've heard people rave about how good it is, so I think I might give it a try. I usually count by net carbs, so I think it might be okay. I'm also going to get some lump crab meat. It is expensive, but I want to start trying different things so I don't get bored with my food. I've had crab in salads before and I really liked it. Thanks Renewedhope for saying you would stay on this longer for me, but you don't have to. I found some tuna in my pantry, so I actually was able to start today. So far, I've had a low carb slim fast and a small can of tuna with some mayo. I'll be able to find something for dinner that's low carb. I'll probably be eating tuna until Friday, lol:lol:.
  15. Okay, I'm going to plan on starting induction again Friday. I really wasn't prepared the first time around, I had already bought groceries and didn't buy enough low carb stuff. We live on one income and I can't really buy groceries again until payday, which is Friday. So, this time I'll buy enough low carb groceries. Okay, do you guys think dry roasted edamame would be okay to eat? They seems to be pretty low carb and high in Protein. Here the nutritional information Seapoint Farms dry roasted edamame is a perfectly roasted and lightly salted green soybean.: SnackAisle.com -- Your Online Source for All Natural Snacks

Mia- ygwlewis is right, don't get too upset about this. Just keep trying to get in touch with Terri. Was she able to give you any indication as to what this might be by looking at the pictures? Maybe she will be able to see you so it will ease your mind. Let us know what you find out.

From looking at the picture, it looks like there is a large amount of redness that doesn't even touch where your bra meets your skin. It looks like a huge rash. Is it only on the port side?
  18. georgia girl

Albany GA bandsters - speak up...

Mia, it almost looks like a huge rash. I'm glad to see that the port incision looks okay. I would think that if it was an infection due to surgery, the incision would be irritated. I don't know what to tell you. Maybe they'll be able to see you today, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Albany GA bandsters - speak up...

I hope it's not anything serious! I'm not a medical professional, but I've always heard that if the area has fever, it could be an infection. There's no way they can see you today? Just my opinion, but if it was me, I would try to get in today and see them. I'm not trying to scare you, but an infection is something that needs to be taken care of fast, especially infection from surgery. Mia, is the area swollen at all? My son got staph infection from the hospital in Moultrie, and his infection was red, fevered, and swollen to the size of about 1/2 of a golfball.

First Support Group Meeting will be on Feb. 7th in Tifton at Ruby Tuesday @ 6:00 pm If this doesn't work for someone, please let me know and we'll change the time if needed. I'm supposed to start Jury Duty on the 4th, so I don't know exactly what that's going to entail, but hopefully (fingers crossed) when I call in they'll tell me I'm not needed. This meeting is just basically to get to know one another. We're going to have a great time chatting about our experience so far and fellowshipping with one another. I hope as the group grows, we can move our meetings to a building where we can have speakers. Maybe people who have been successful with the band, could share their experiences and tips. Maybe have a nutritionist speak, or even Elizabeth. I'm just excited to get to know everyone! Hope to see everyone there!

    Gatorade G2

Sounds like it would be pretty good and a lot better on the calories. I think I read that it has 25 calories per 8 oz, not too bad. I'll definitely try it when it comes out!
  23. Thanks Renewedhope! I hope all your kiddos get better soon. I can tell you are a great mother and I know you are making a world of difference in these kids lives.

    Joe from CT

Welcome Joe! You seem to be doing really well. I know exactly what you mean when you say you want to be healthy for your family. I have a soon-to-be 2 year old and my only regret is that I didn't do this before he was born. I wasn't able to do the things moms are supposed to do after he was born. I'm just now getting to where I can run around and play outside some. I'm hoping by the time he turns 3, I'll be healthier and at my goal weight. Good luck on your lap band journey and good luck with starting your family.
