    Sleeping hurts.

i haven't even slept in my bed since surgery 12/9!!! i have been sleeping in my overstuffed recliner. I have an issue with the one incision on the left side that they had to re open and is healing now so maybe that contributes to it more than the original surgery but…hoping after another week or so it will close up and I can get back into my bed

Post op help needed - hunger

@bobbyswife I was sleeved on Dec 9 and i had the same issues. I was HUNGRY a lot of the time. Everyone suggested that it was stomach acid, which may have been correct but part of what my dr's instructions was 20 mg of omeprazole (sp) which is the active ingredient in Prilosec, Nexium etc. Once i started eating more foods than the soups/shakes i found that started to go away little by little. Today i was not hungry really at all except for now as I'm writing this. I find that it comes back mostly later at night now when i do have it. i try not to eat late but maybe i need a snack or even a Protein shake later after dinner.

    Any December 30th Sleevers ?!

Hi all. I am just shy of four weeks out. My surgery was on December 9. I had some issues with one incision but on the left side. They told me to expect pain there since that's where they remove the stomach from however I probably should've called the doctor sooner. They ended up having to re-cut open the wound clean it out. so if you are in a lot of pain around a wound I recommend having the dr or nurse look at it. Mine ended opening up and started bleeding that ended up being a good thing because it prompted me to go in and have him look at it they caught it just before an infection was just about to start. it's an open wound now but definitely healing.
  4. I had my sleeve on dec 9 and my doc sends you home. I def took pain meds for the first 3 days. Still did a lot of walking but was not really in the mood for company. So it was done on tues and I kind of laid low until Friday when I felt more like myself. My experience was a little different though because it ends up I had an issue with one of my incisions that was causing me a ton of pain. It ended up the following Monday they had to cut it open and drain it and clean it out again. But no pain after they did that so I'm not sure what the "normal" level of pain should be. This week I'll be a month out. I still have the open incision that's healing well. It will probably take another 2 weeks to heal. But better healing then it being infected.

New to this and so impatient

I was impatient as well. I had a 6 month wait after my May visit so almost 8 months total. Like the other veterans here have said (and they are totally right) that time ended up being really good for me. There was the testing, I researched endless recipes so that I knew what my expectations would be ultimately, watched a million YouTube videos of folks post op for helpful hints and suggestions as well as finished all the tests. I felt like my surgery would never come but the last month flies by so you can't count that. Make the most of this time. Surgery will be here before you know it. I'm 3 weeks out already and still adjusting. But not regretting the decision in the least. Good luck and hang in there.

    Feeling overwhelmed....????

I have the same issue. I'm 3 weeks out, I take my Omeprozale and still am quite hungry. I would even go as far to say that I'm "starving". I was looking forward to not having these hunger pains after surgery. I guess it does not happen for everyone. I just don't see how I'm so hungry w most of my stomach removed

    Discouraged Already

@lljenkins. I just read your post about feeling discouraged and saw the responses. I was sleeved 12/9 and felt / feel exactly the same I think that is a natural part of the process. I'm approaching 3 weeks and down 20 lbs so I'm feeling a bit better. But originally I had not lost anything the first week and a half and felt the same way you did - we just made this drastic change (and are still dealing with that emotionally) and are not seeing results. After the first week and a half i drastically lost 10lbs around the week and a half mark. Then 7 more pounds followed pretty quickly and just today another 4. I think the attitude that the others have comes with time and seeing the results and soon we will start seeing things that way. I'm starting to trust in the process and know that if I follow the rules it will all work out. I am addicted to my scale which is a terrible thing. I may need to,ask someone to hide it until I can break the habit!! Hang in there you are not alone!! Ann/ other veterans while we appreciate your candor and tough love --Please remember we are new to this process, not even in a month yet and are trying to learn how to live our new life and deal with all the emotions and new feelings that come along with the surgery. Often we see others results and feel like we may be doing something wrong or even worse, start to question our decision. We will learn in time. Please be patient. That's why we come to these forums for the advice and support of those of you who have been in our shoes.

    New Jersey Sleevers?

How is everyone doing? Aside from a minor incision complication I'm 3 weeks out tomorrow and down 20 lbs! Super excited. Can't wait for the incision to close up so I can start upping my activity level. I had one question for everyone. Is anyone else hungry? I know they said we would not feel satisfied on the soft foods / full liquid phase but I'm starving. I feel like I did before the surgery! I was looking forward to losing that feeling. Anyone know if it eventually happens? Or is this as good as it gets? Im taking the 20 mg of omeprezole. Not sure why I feel so hungry all the time.

    Any sleevers in Northern NJ?

Hi. Ends up I actually had a small complication w the left side incision. The dr had to re cut and open it to clean it out. There was a hematoma there. I feel completely pain free now. But the one drawback is that as of Mon I have been treating an open wound. I have to pack it every day so I need to keep activity to a min. But better to have caught it now then after an infection set in. I'm 18 days out and 18 lbs down. Bummed about the setback but still overall glad I went through w the procedure.

    New Jersey Sleevers?

Hi Cindy No pain like that but I'm 2 weeks out today and no where near ready for nuts yet. I totally get needing to chew on something though. Does your doc require you to take Nexium or some form of Omeprozale? Maybe that would help the stomach acid? I did have another minor complication but it's all under control now. The incision on the left-hand side was really red and painful. I thought that was what it was supposed to be like. My dog actually jumped on me the other day and I twisted away and opened the incision. It ended up bleeding and wouldn't stop on Sun. I went to the doctor on Monday and they sent me right to the ER since my surgeon was performing surgery at the hospital that day. He had to recut the one incision and clean it out. Now I have totally no pain and am on my way to fully healing again. Just need to take care of this open wound for the next week or so until it heals.

    December Sleevers?

Hi all newcomers. Welcome and congrats on surgery!! Hope it was all without complications and you guys are recovering well. I found the first 4 days to be tough then each day got exponentially better.

    1 Week Down!

I went for 1st checkup today. I was down almost 10lbs. Apparently my scale is busted. Which is odd bc it was in sync w the dr right up until surgery. He is going to let me move to phase 3 of 4 on Saturday a few days early if I get all my fluids in the next few days.

    ONE DAY post op!

Good luck!! The first 3-4 days were rough for me. I expected a quicker bounce back. But if you feel cr@ppy for a few days don't get discouraged or worried. It gets much better each day after that. I'm a week out as of today and feel light years better than I did those first few days. Hang in there

    1 Week Down!

That's great news!! I was sleeved dec 9 and struggling a bit. No medical complications- thank god! Just some mental ones. I have not lost any weight at all. Literally!! In fact I'm still a few pounds heavier than my surgery date weight! How is that even possible? I've been on Nothing but the clear and full liquid phase. ( pudding, yogurt and soups) I don't know how I'm going to stay on this phase until dec 23 when I'm supposed to start soft/puréed foods. I'm just a bit frustrated. I have lost more weight on my own before the surgery while eating more than I've lost this last week eating nothing. I feel hungry which I've read is the acid so I'm getting back to taking my Nexium. I get about 50 grams of Protein a day and about 50 oz of Water. I know I need to up both but it's been so hard to get the Protein powder down. I need to go buy some ready made shakes tomorrow.

    Any sleevers in Northern NJ?

Ok. I'm definitely feeling a lot better.I know they say not to look at the scale. But I'm getting a bit discouraged. I've been on the full liquid diet since Friday. I haven't been getting in a full 64 ounces of liquid but I have been getting in almost 50. I am about the same with the protein. My weight is higher now then the day of surgery. I keep reading stories about people who were down 5 pounds, even 10 pounds even in the first week. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, do I need to be walking more? Like they said the left side is still in a lot of pain. Just around the incision is still stiff and sore. The skin is not soft like it is in the other sides incisions. what has everyone's first week results been? I just posted this on the other Decembers sleevers page hoping there are people out there who have been through this. I go to the doctor for a check up on Thursday. Just feeling like a failure already.

    Pre-op diet

I didn't have to lose weight before the surgery but I was required to stay within 10 lbs of my initial weight 7 months ago. Day of surgery I was roughly 2 lbs less than my start weight. For me just maintaining for that many months was a struggle.
  20. I'm 5 days out and struggling with the balance as well. My dr has 4 phases. 1st was Clear Liquids for the first 2-3 days. Then days 3-14 are full liquids. pudding, Greek yogurt, soups(creamed/puréed ) and strained, cream of wheat etc but not much more than that. I'm full eating the 2-4 oz at each sitting but then I do actually get pretty hungry after a few hours, which surprised me. I am getting in about 40-50 oz of water/fluids and about 50g of Protein via protein powders mixed in soups/puddings etc at the end of the day. I'm hoping when I go for post op checkup on thurs he graduates me to next phase which is still soft / puréed foods but allows something more substantial. cottage cheese, ricotta, mushed over ripe bananas etc. I am a little worried about the lack of weight loss. After the surgery my scale said I gained 10 lbs from my surgery weight. Then 2 days ago the scale said I was down 10 lbs from my surgery weight and tonight scale says I gained 4 lbs from my surgery weight. Whhaaaaaat is going on! I'm all over the place. Anyone else struggling post op? Is this normal?

    December Sleevers?

I had my surgery dec 9 and can not even imagine getting a shake down right now. I can barely get Water and crystal light down without my stomach rebelling a bit. I'm not exactly regretting the surgery but def hoping this gets better soon. I'm supposed to be in yogurt, Soups and Protein drinks starting fri and I just don't see that happening
