1. Cynthia R -
Why do you say we should want the INAMED band? Do you have any information regarding the Johnson and Johnson Band? I am trying to decide whether I want the J&J or INAMED...

2. I actually don't have a preference. I'm just trying to make sure there aren't any extreme cases out there that I should be aware of. The doctor's office was very accomodating and offered a discount for the J&J band or to pay for the fee to reschedule my flight. My entire experience with Dr. Jose Rodriguez has been great. I think I'm going to go ahead with the J&J band.
3. Thanks for the info bexleygal. That's really interesting that your friend received the same FYI that I did. One doctor I tried to see in the states (prior to just scheduling my appt in Mexico) said he didn't want to see me for a consultation if I was animate about having a baby. I was open with the admin assistant and acknowledged that this was to help with fertility issues. She called me back after scheduling the appointment and said the doctor wanted to make sure I knew the pregnancy should be delayed for at least a year if I move forward with the surgery. If I keep hearing all of these success stories, I may just let nature take it's course and see what happens. If I still need to go back for shots (Follistim, HCG, etc), then I still may need to wait if the fertility doctor wants to hold off. Will keep you posted.
4. I am very new to the lapband terminology, so thank you for the correction. Now the that this is approved by the FDA, I will contact the doctor I planned to have follow visits with to make sure they can still provide services. Thank you for the heads up about US doctors. If this changes things about my ability to receive follow up care, I will just wait until after the 20th. Here's the announcement about the FDA approval for anyone who's interested: www.ethiconendo.com

Liquid Stage Recipes

Thank you for all of the recipes! I started some of my grocery shopping today in preparation for my October 11th surgery. This was a tip posted by someone earlier. I also followed another tip and went to allrecipes.com (which is my favorite site to find holiday desserts). I found this lovely dessert for the liquid phase that may help with a sweet tooth. I modified the recipe for our dietary needs: strawberry Soup INGREDIENTS 2 cups strawberries 1 cup skim milk (the recipe actually calls for buttermilk) 1 teaspoon Splenda DIRECTIONS Place strawberries and skim milk into a blender or food processor and puree. Sweeten with Splenda to taste, blend and either serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator.
7. Congratulations to all of the expecting mothers! This is the main driver behind me having the surgery. Please keep us posted on your progress. FYI - One doctor I previously spoke to stated it is best to wait one year after the surgery before getting pregnant. Was this the case with each of you?
8. I am currently scheduled for surgery with Dr. Jose Rodriguez in Mexico also. I am traveling all the way from Pennsylvania because US doctors have denied assisting me (even though my BMI is 33.4). My husband and I have been unsuccessful with fertility treatments for three years because of my insulin resistance. I am excited for this opportunity and will update everyone as soon as I can.
9. I am scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Jose Rodriguez whose information can be found at www.joseband.com. As others have suggested, I conducted research online and have found several positive things about him. His infection rate is published on his webpage as 2% and I also took the liberty of contacting several of his referrals. One referral included a professor at the Univ of Houston.
10. This post is very helpful. I am scheduled for surgery on October 11th. Simliar to one of the previous posts, I had the expectation that I would be up and moving regularly by the third day. Thank you for taking the time to share your experieces. I tend to be the anti-hypocondric and sometimes over-exert myself. This made things much more realistic regarding what I may be facing. I'm also having the surgery in Mexico. Will keep you posted.
11. I am also scheduled for Oct 11th. If you do not receive a reply, please post a message regarding your experience. I am also nervous and my husband is very apprehensive.
