  1. I started soft foods about a week out. I bought the Betty Crocker flavored mashed potatoes and mixed in gerber chicken and vegetables or the turkey dinner...with sea salt and pepper. Used the bottled vegetables too like the organic brands with interesting vegetable and fruit mixes. Almost anything tastes good with those flavored mashed potatoes, and you can mix them as tick or thin as you can handle. After a week of that, I bought a really good little hand operated chopper and started to thickly puree restaurant meals. I just tried solid foods yesterday and what little I had seemed to work just fine. My surgery was August 27.

  2. Too funny, I just asked this in another forum. Just got the stuff yesterday. Wish I knew what genetic tri-Protein peptide was or "instantized peptide whey", "hydrolyzed whey", and "genetic hexapeptide Protein. Those are the ingredients. If this the right kind of protein to get? I love the stuff and don't want to give it up, but is it truly pure whey protein????

I'm also in the same bucket as sarah92200 - spending a ton of money on finding what works best, what tastes best, and what gives the best protein intake.

  3. I'm totally with you...love it. Your criteria is pretty much the same as mine. I just don't have a clue what genetic tri-Protein peptide is. I'm going to keep using it because of all the things you mentioned. My favorite is the small portion size!!! today was my first day using it, so I'll just go on until I run out and see how it affects me.

I just bought some of the GENEPRO two weeks ago and I love it. I've been adding it to my liquids (iced tea, crystal light, etc.) and so far it goes great with everything. That said, I'm not a doctor so can't tell you if its the right or wrong kind of Protein. I honestly don't think there is a wrong kind of protein but that's me.

    Mixes well? check

    Flavorless? check

    small portion size? check

    can double up portions? check

doesn't change texture of your liquid? check

Not sure what else you're looking for, but it suits me just fine.

  4. I put my question on a couple of the boards on this site. Hoping someone will have used it or some someone else who has. I just don't know what Protein peptides are. But boy, is it nice stuff...very fine, doesn't clump, and one serving is just a little scoop, maybe a tablespoon and a teaspoon measure. That's a lot nicer than the packets of Protein that are you have to blend and shake and really work hard to get it mixed into anything.

  5. I'm right there with you...I HATE needles. I can handle spiders, snakes, mice, but in now way can I handle needles. Have been this way since childhood.

My doctor gave me a prescription numbing cream that is stronger than the over the counter kind. Mine had both lidocaine and prilocaine. Most over the counter creams have a small amount of lidocaine, but do work in general. I just know that I didn't feel a thing. Not the blood draw for the lab and not the IV insertion into the top of my hand. They didn't tell me they were going to give me some shot in the muscle of my left arm, so I was unprepared and almost fainted.

We are the way we are. Some people just can't handle some things, even if they seem like the smallest or easiest thing to others. My friend is weirdly and deathly afraid of horses...she can't even get near a horse statue or painting. It is just the way we are all wired.

  6. I put unflavored Protein power into my 30 gram Protein pre-made shakes. I also put a scoop in my morning yogurt. Boy, you're lucky. My doctor said I should be getting about 80-85 grams of protein for the first 3 months. That is really hard.

I finally got in with a nutritionist and have my first appointment on Monday. I don't think I'm getting enough Calcium either. What amount did your doctor recommend for Calcium?

Just started on soft foods and I was wondering what everyone does at the beginning to get the 60 grams of protein each day. I made an egg and couldn't eat it all. Will I have to continue with Protein Shakes for awhile?

  7. I've also heard that this type of shoulder pain can be from anesthesia. I had it very bad in the hospital and for a day or two later, but once they removed my drain, I was fine. The one thing nice about having my surgery in Mexico, was that I had my own nurse with me practically 24 hours a day. She would massage my shoulder when I had this pain and boy did that help...she just couldn't do it 24 hours a day.

Pain meds sound good! But you could also try massage. Many places give chair massages or just short 30 minutes massages so you don't have to pay an arm and leg for an hour long one.

  8. Thank you for all the great advice. What I have been doing is focusing too much on getting all of my Protein through shakes, powders and bars, when I should be looking at getting more Protein through a good food diet and better choices based on high-protein based foods.

Thanks JamieLogical for the menu and the link. That really helps me "see" my issue. And thank you kindle for the information on protein absorbtion, because I have been trying to get it all in before 10 am or so just trying to make sure I got the protein I'm supposed to.

I really appreciate the really good perspectives I now can follow.

  9. I am having trouble getting to my Protein quota set by my doctor; at least 75-85 grams per day. I have been mixing Protein Powder with Protein drinks just to get more in the mornings...but, boy oh boy, the calories add up. My morning routine comes to about 516 calories. That's one serving of Chobani yogurt with 1 packet of unflavored Protein power and one Lean Body Protein shake with one packet of unflavored protein powder. Those three items add up to more than half of the 800 calories I've been trying to stick to as advised for these first few months. I also take a handful of Vitamins which must be worth at least 5-10 calories each.

Wondering if anyone knows anything about GENEPRO Genetic Tri-Protein Peptide. It says it contains 30 grams of protein (instanized peptide whey, hydrolyzed whey, and genetic hexapeptide protein).

Is this the kind of protein I want and need? One thing nice is that the serving size (one scoop) is much smaller than the packets like powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury or Jarrrow Formulas, which I have been using. Plus it's only got 15mg of sodium. But is it the "right kind" of protein????

Thanks to anyone who can whey in on this topic :)

  13. Remember that a lot of patients never again follow up with their doctor in Mexico, so his stats could be very correct based on the data he received. These people make their entire livings off of Medical Tourism. They all seem to want to do everything above and beyond what our doctors in the u.s. do. Based on how everything worked at the hospital I was at in Tijuana, I would say all thse doctors have very low complication rates.

  14. I'm four weeks out today. My surgery was performed in Tijuana by Dr. Lopez's wife, Dr. Jacqueline Osuna. The whole experience was awesome. I have quite felt like moving onto solid foods yet. I'm still very comfortable at the mashed up stage, although I can handle more coarsely mashed/smooshed foods now. I will have to look up Korma chicken. I love chicken...but I have always been a dark meat fan. Guess I'll be switching to mostly breast meat from now on.

My problem is trying to keep up with all the Protein intake, but keep the calories down. I drink a 25g shake in the morning, but poor unflavored mix into it to add 21g more. Then for a little later snack, I have a cup of Greek yogurt with another pack of unflavored mix stirred in. With all that, I'm sitting pretty good at about 70 grams of protein, but about 526 calories. Gees, Protein Shakes and powers have a LOT more calories than I would have ever expected. I think I'm sticking close to about 800 calories a day for the time being. I still cannot eat very much at all. I had trouble downing the full cup of yogurt, but I do for the protein.

I'm six weeks out today, 30 lbs slimmer since surgery-- in Puerto Vallarta with Dr. Alejandro Lopez-- (34 lbs from the week before surgery) and many inches smaller. I've followed the nut guidelines very carefully and have not had any issues with the progression of liquids, soft foods, slow introduction of most foods. Chicken seems to be my "go to" food. I've made BBQ chicken (with no calories, no carbs, gluten free Walden Farms BBQ sauce), Korma chicken from a recipe on another bariatric foodie website--all in my new slow cooker (which is AMAZING and super easy)! I eat super slowly and chew, chew, chew. Can only get down two-three tablespoons at a sitting, then I'm full. I'm definitely getting in mostly protein, but not lots of calories (averaging about 300-400 per day). I start Jazzercising again on October 1st--and hope to go back to teaching classes this spring. I can't wait to start strength training again--my tummy has never been this...well, loose. Glad to hear so many August sleevers are doing well! This site and everyone's support is truly helpful to so many of us.

  15. You're going to be just fine. Enjoy the adventure. Just a little soreness and pain involved for a very short time. Then you're on the way to your new self. You'll be up and walking just a few hours after surgery and about 2 days later, you'll hardly be able to tell you had any procedure done.

I am doing ok. I am still worrying about risking the complications! Suppose to be on a plane in less than 22hrd
