Gaining weight after surgery- really?
Forsythia replied to fuzzyangelbear's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yeah I came out of the hospital 306. Went in 294. Fun times with fluid retention. But I literally lost 7 lbs of that water overnight. -
How Do You Change Your Exercise Routine in Winter?
Forsythia replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I go to the gym, so I don't have a weather excuse. I do like to alternate between the elliptical, bike and treadmill and free weights. I also take a weight class once a week and swim when I have a bathing suit that fits which I do not right now. Too big. Can't be having the girls pop out. Lol. -
Is a colonoscopy a requirement for the sleeve surgery?
Forsythia replied to wannaBthinsoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Endoscopy yes, colonoscopy no. -
Caffeine allowed during pre-op diet?
Forsythia replied to hdd55146's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Caffeine was not restricted in any phase of my pre-op or post-op diet. You should ask your nutritionist for clarification because you are going to get a bunch of different answers. -
Holiday meals - how do/did you handle it?
Forsythia replied to VSG Davis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
On thanksgiving I went to a pot luck. I got a big piece of chicken, and then had tiny amounts of sides. So it looked like a relatively normal sized meal, but was not. I ate the entire chicken thigh, then had a couple bites of the sides total. Everyone had heaping plates and seconds, but not me. No one said anything. After that I socialized and everything was cool. For today, it's just me, the husband and cat. I'm cooking a turkey breast, green Beans and stuffing, but again will eat mostly the turkey and a couple bites of the sides total. -
How many calories are you eating? Try to get at least 1200. So add in another healthy snack. If you work out, try to dial it back say from an hour to 30 minutes cardio. I don't think anyone would fuss at you at all. It's a legitimate question once you hit your goal. Sometimes it's hard to dial it back. There is a post on here from someone who went too far and put himself in treatment for an eating disorder. So no, no one is going to be a jerk to you about a legit concern.

I'm from Michigan a City, Indiana, but live in Chicago, IL. Did some time (lol) in Boston before moving back to the Midwest.

post op weight fluctuations--anybody? --is it just me?!
Forsythia replied to QueenBeatrix's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My weight fluctuates all the time. The idea that the scale is only going to go in a straight downward trajectory is a myth. You are going to lose, then stall, then gain, then lose some more, and stall and lose. -
When did you resume driving, exercising?
Forsythia replied to Justoperated's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exercise - was cleared for general cardio one week post op. Weights one month out. I don't drive. So I can't comment on that. -
The reality is that everyone categorizes everything. It's how we make sense of things, by compartmentalizing things so they work within our worldview. I don't think being a hippie yogini is a bad thing at all.

Body Shapers ( Spanx)
Forsythia replied to Homecie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I like the under the bra tank tops or the high waisted panties that go up below the bra. There are lots of brands out there. Spanx, Maidenform, Flexees, Hanes. They are not going to make you a size smaller, but they will smooth out lumps and bumps and minimize any rolls you are looking to camouflage when you have an important event like a wedding or a job interview. If you are going for maximum control, try them on - they need to be tight. I find the size charts on those garments (the tank tops and high waisted panties) the size charts don't really match up to your measurements correctly. Like, you have to struggle a bit to get into them. If you can slip them on, they are too big. Now, I don't mean struggle to the point where you can't breathe or can't get out of them, but, they should be challenging. For the more pantyhose type Spanx shapers, follow the size chart on the back of the package and go by your height/weight. Those are pretty accurate in my experience. -
It's hilarious. And Bill Murray makes a cameo as himself pretending to be a zombie. That's worth watching the entire movie. Other than that, I will not spoil it for you!

When did your hair loss start?
Forsythia replied to EllieMae's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I take a prenatal. Only because it allows me to only have to take one pill instead of two pills. They have Biotin in them, but I honestly don't believe they prevented me from losing hair. I'm in the "it'll happen or it won't" camp. I'm pretty lax about taking my vitamins and generally get in my 60 to 80 g of Protein, but didn't try to force the issue on a day where I only had in 55 or something. -

Annoyed and frustrated... the good and the bad...
Forsythia commented on Trace Lynne's blog entry in Traci's Blog
I feel your pain girl. I've lost over 100 lbs in seven months and I'm still a size 18 in pants. But keep things in perspective. I was 312 lbs. A size 28 before. And I'm still losing. Able to do so much more. Diabetes is in remission. And I no longer feel like the fattest fat person riding the CTA here in Chicago. So every time you feel like comparing, take a mental list of all your accomplishments from big like your 5k to small like needing to get your rings sized - or whatever they may be! Your journey is your own, your body is your own. Learn to love both of them! -
Never said you couldn't. I just said why I don't do or enjoy yoga. :-)
-
Sleeve was in may. I'm great. Over 100 lbs lost post surgery, and over 120 from my all time high. Can't complain.
-
Definitely not correcting you, just adding on. I think a lot of people worry that since the majority of stomach is still in there and no longer accessible, what would happen if there were an issue like a cancer that could be missed because you can't scope it. Either way, the op needs to weigh pros and cons of both!

Lol. I'd never actually spend money to go to a class. Yoga is just not for me. I'm just not hippy dippy trippy enough to find it enjoyable. I'd rather lift heavy weights or hit the elliptical.

When did your hair loss start?
Forsythia replied to EllieMae's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't lose any hair. And I have thin fine hair. -
The stomach is sectioned off but it indeed still intact inside the body. This is a factor in why many of us choose the sleeve over the bypass. In the sleeve the stretchy part gets removed and is probably fertilizing someone's garden. Lol.

I'm a big proponent of weights, but I had a disproportionate amount of fat deposit itself there. I do all the bicep and triceps work I can. Chest and shoulder work, but I have loose skin in the bat wing area. The muscle underneath is great, but the skin is so stretched. I'm 37. It's not going to bounce back like it might have if I were only 27. I try to keep them moisturized and supple as possible. Maybe some of the elasticity will shrink them back, but I have low expectations for them.
