When Do You Exercise?
Forsythia replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Generally I work out on weekdays after work. On weekends whenever - typically early afternoon. I try to go in the mornings on the weekend but my body says nope. And on weekdays I am not going to get up earlier than I do to workout. I'm not a morning person. LOL. -
I'm of the opinion that it doesn't matter much what you do to try to avoid hair loss. It'll either happen or it won't. You can lose hair from anesthesia as well as low Protein levels. You can also lose it if your Vitamin A level is too high. Despite my picture, I have very fine curly hair. I've not lost any at 6 months out. I don't take Biotin (other than what is in my multi) and generally get over 60 g of protein. I was really good about getting 80g or more early but I've no desire to go back to two shakes a day. But really, any hair loss is temporary. Don't fret it. It's worth the health benefits alone.

Should my weight be at a stand still?
Forsythia replied to Sexy30inthemaking's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Classic stall. We all stall. Sometimes stalls can last days, or weeks. Sometimes you will gain and lose the same 5 lbs for a couple weeks. And then when you think you are a big failure who cannot follow instructions, the weight starts to fall off again. Typically we all still a couple weeks after we get sleeved. I stall out every month, right around my period, and gain a bunch of Water. It sucks balls. But it is reality. -
I only have three bras in my new size right now. I got all three at Ross/Marshall's/TJ Maxx. They were like $8. And good brands too - Olga and Lilyette. Also look in outlet malls. If you have a Vanity Fair store or a Hanes outlet. In fact almost all of my clothes are from discount stores like Burlington Coat Factory. Get the Maxx for the Minimum. LOL!

I'd imagine you could add some variety to those squats to make them more interesting. Plie squats. Step squats. Pulsed squats. Wall squats.

How to deal with fat friends
Forsythia replied to built2livenotexist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My best friend, since 5th grade, well, she and I are no longer friends. She's okay being 300lbs. I am not. And she said some things I was not down with. So she, instead of being a grown up, unfriended me on facebook. I don't miss her. -
How to deal with going to events
Forsythia replied to cryssyd3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My immediate first thought was that this is why weddings have open bars. Or at the very least beer, wine and/or a signature cocktail. -
If you use MFP and have the smartphone app, you can scan bar codes, which is great. Especially if you eat frozen meals a lot or are on the go.

Thoughts on sugar free?
Forsythia replied to nails211's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't eschew sugar. I don't go out of my way to use splenda et al, either. I don't feel like they are any better for you than actual sugar. They still make you want sweet things. I'd rather have a small bite of something with sugar, than an entire sugar free item since sugar tastes better to me.. But that is just me. The thing now is moderation. Mentally I was too weak to moderate before. But now the sleeve forces me to moderate. -
What size is your sleeve?
Forsythia replied to Jennifer Rogers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no earthly idea. And really I don't care. I'm still losing weight, that's all that matters. -
Drinking while eating
Forsythia replied to Jennifer Rogers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Occasionally you'll need a drink when you have something overly spicy or it goes down the wrong pipe, but 99% of the time you don't. After awhile, it becomes automatic. This is the thing I was worried about the most, but I found it was quite easy to follow. -
Feeling good...can I start the next stage diet?
Forsythia replied to audefacere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't want to jump ahead to purees anyhow. They suck hard. FWIW, I was on purees immediately upon coming home from the hospital per my plan. Purees were the longest week of my life. Lol. -
Tasteless Protein
Forsythia replied to Crystal52783's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are fine calorie wise 8 days post op. I'm 6 months out, I typically get in 1000 to 1200 calories. Honestly you might lose hair regardless of Protein intake. Anesthesia can cause hair loss as well. Having said that, I'd ask your nutritionist if you are okay to add Protein powder at this stage. Some people are on stricter schedules than others. If you can tolerate Isopure, you might try it. It is a clear liquid. Comes in tea, fruit and coconut, which is my personal favorite flavor. U njury also makes a chicken Soup flavored protein -

I'm decidedly regular. No issues with shark week coming early or late since my sleeve. -

High BMI sleevers weight loss amounts.
Forsythia replied to Dmclaren83's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My bmi was in the 55 range when I started out. I was 312. I'm 6 months out. I find I have to exercise more. Like, 70, 80 minutes of solid state cardio now. I can't just sit on my couch and watch it fall off like it did to start. And mentally it's all me now. Apple or cookie. Apple or cookie, ya know? I still want to lose like 70, 75 lbs more. My surgeon expects 100 lbs from the surgery. I'm at 90 lbs lost right now. I want to blow past his expectations. -
Where are my MAY 5 Sleevers? It's our 6-Month Anniversary!
Forsythia replied to Comeflywithme's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Ooh me! I had a sleeve on Cinco de Mayo. Down from 312 to 222. 90 lbs down from my program start weight. High weight was 335. Trying to get below 200 by new years. -
Funny non-scale victory
Forsythia replied to Jennifer Rogers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Go to Claire's and get yourself some ring snuggies until you are ready to get them sized at goal. Funny thing is that I never really had fat fingers size wise. My left ring finger was a 7. But I figure in down to a 5.5 ring size now. I looked at a picture of my hand from 2010 when I got engaged and compared them to now and my hands are downright bony in comparison! It just strikes me as bizarre. -
How do I get all this tape off my body?
Forsythia replied to nikki9's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some fell off, and some I picked off (I'm terrible I could not resist. More tempting than any scab) , and the rest I used rubbing alcohol on to remove the sticky stuff. -
Could Not Getting in My Water Be Causing this Stall?
Forsythia replied to LaceGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Could be. Are you exercising? You might need more calories if you are going hardcore on the treadmill. And I had a two week stall two weeks out. It blew. I also gain 5 lbs each month because of my period. Then it falls off with reinforcements. -
Protein pudding. Pop one in your bag for a snack.
-
I don't need to follow the schedule. I found out very shortly after my surgery that going longer than 4hrs does not cause me to get nauseated. But generally I get up, have my protein drink at 6am, then go to work and have a Greek yogurt around 8:30 or 9. Lunch around noon, a snack at 3, then gym, then dinner. Oddly there are all kinds of things I'm pretty lazy about but most of the time is quite easy for me to stick with a food schedule without trying too hard.

Vegas 20 days after surgery?
Forsythia replied to alovelynewme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was perfectly fine to travel after about a week. I had a really easy recovery. I was also on soft solids by then. Don't drink, and make sure you try for healthier items at the buffets and restaurants. -
Skipping puréed and going straight to soft!?!?
Forsythia replied to Jennifer Rogers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Purees were so gross to me. It was a week of misery. Things you had no issues with before may not agree with you now. I'm six months out and made beef short ribs in a red wine reduction and the red wine made me barf (and I've had white wine and liquor no problem post op). I think the tannins were just to much for me. -
How soon after rny can you lift weights?
Forsythia replied to brown eyed gal's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I think a consensus I hear for heavy weight lifting is 4 to 6 weeks. There might come a time where you have to pick up your kid, that hand bag that literally has everything in it or rotund cat before that, but don't make it a habit. Lol.
