Taking meds after surgery.
You will probably be told (as I was) that you cannot swallow any pill bigger than an aspirin for 2-3 weeks. I am on a few meds as well and had to crush them and eat them with apple sauce. So buy a good pill crusher now to be ready. Eating them is nasty but it's only for a little while. I had my 2 week post op visit yesterday and was released to swallow any pill whole. But you still have to get used to swallowing them with only a sip and not a gulp with them all at once like I was used too! Best of luck! This is an awesome place for support. Welcome!

Nausea Nausea GO AWAY!
I had my 2 week post op visit today and am THRILLED to say that I get to advance my diet from pureed to soft food. NO more gross chicken! But I found that I am quite dehydrated. I was not surprised as my nausea is not going away and I have way too many loose bowel movements (TMI sorry). The nurse practitioner said that it's very common and that I should be eating a little right when I get up and drinking lots more. UGH! I am soooo thirsty! But of course I have to "sip" not gulp or I get sicker even faster. Trying to find a happy medium here. Any suggestions? And, yes, I am on both Protonix and Zofran.

Alcohol
I had my 2 week post op visit today and I specifically asked about this! Especially since it's a HOT few days here in Chicago and friends are having lots of outdoor parties in the evening. I was told NONE for 3-6 months (but NEVER anyting carbonated again). My dietician actually said it's more like 3 months usually. She was sweet and said she can imagine how hard it is to refuse wine from a girlfriend. It's true but I am lucky my friends understand. (Or they don't know cuz I have not said anything). Suckville for summer, I know. But we did this for a reason. Stick in there and have a great summer!

Hypochondria about DVT
I'm on day 11 and walking is not easy. I go for shorter walks so I don't get too exhausted. But walking in any way helps. If you walk to stores, that is awesome! No stores close enough to me to walk to. I'd be all over that! Just for Starbucks Passion Tea!

Day 10 barfing
I was doing OK until yesterday. I had a very bad migraine and just didn't feel up to much. My walk was torture. And I couldn't keep anything down. Now it's 11 days and I'm having the same problem w/o a headache to blame it on. I went for a walk as usual and ending up coming home half way through because I had to run to the bathroom. Then I sat in my rocking chair (from when my daughter was a baby- glad I kept it SO comfy) eating ice chips because that settled my tummy. But now I'm nauseous just relaxing on the couch. I cannot imagine eating anything. Just the thought makes me feel sick. Any ideas or suggestions?

Losing Too Much Pre-op for Sleeve
My preop diet was 10 days. And pureed stuff right after surgery. Granted I'm really only handling shakes. But I'm trying a little food every day.

I'm lucky I like Protein shakes. Plus I bought a few different extracts. It helps to mix up the flavors. I LOVE coconut and the caramel one is awesome too.

Losing Too Much Pre-op for Sleeve
That is bizarre. My doctor told me not to worry, that I was going to lose weight during my pre op. He said that he used my pre diet BMI and that's not going to change. My insurance has paid without really anymore questioning. I DID have to have a sleep study. But that was for the anesthesia doctors. I also had no co morbidities. When I checked in on post op day (June 3rd) I was 12lbs down and my nurse congratulated me.

I just called Walgreens and they have zofran ready! Now my fingers crossed it helps since I just vomited again! Ugh!

Still nauseous after 10 days plus no stamina
I've asked my doc for more zofran. As for the protein, I'm getting an average of about 80g. They want 90g but I still can handle only so much.

That sounds fair when it comes to doctors. If they tell you 90g or more, they are probably thinking what you'll actually absorb from those 90g. But my doctor did say there's no such thing as too much protein.

Post Op June 2014 Sleevers
I use Fitness Pal. It works great because you can set your goals and track your nutrition intake. Even lets you bar code things! Just me mindful of your portion sizes when you log. The number of ounces they have maybe bigger than you can handle. But you can change any portion size and it will calculate everything for you! I tried like 3 other apps till I found this one.

Still nauseous after 10 days plus no stamina
I don't know what the back pain would be. Other than referred pain from your tummy or gas that you don't even know you have. I stil have pain in the larger incision. They said that would hyrt the longest because it's where they pull the stomach through. (TMI truly) But I'm glad they told me. Now I need to get walking more.

Can't drink protein shakes, afraid of hair loss
Gosh I wish my doctor let me eat berries! Hope to get the clearance at my 2week visit next week. This whole pureed thing is just not working. I made tacos last night and pureed the (very lean) ground beef for me. I still couldn't get it quite baby food consistency even with Water. But I chewed and chewed and got a little less than 1/4C in.

Too much protein in one sitting leading to hair loss?
I talked to my doctor today and was told that too much Protein is impossible. If your hair is thinning, start taking Biotin. It's online on Amazon in gummies (they are really good) or at any health food store. My doctor highly recommended it for those who worry about hair loss. Lots of people to not have hair loss though. It's very individualized. But the Biotin can't hurt. It makes your nails stronger and good for your skin! Hope that helps.
