  1. Hi there,

I wouldn't get too worked up about this, you're body has been through allot recently and it needs time to settle into a routine.

You do need to eat to loose weight though, if you starve the body, it will hold on to any reserves it can to survive. So keep your metablic rate up by eating small and often. Watch what you're drinking too, fruit juices are especially high in calories and alcohol.!!

Keep your chin up, you're not alone in this, lots of people suffer the same as you. I have too!!

  2. Hey girlfriend! I went through the same thing...

Yes, your stoma swells after a fill. How much? Who knows... but you should be able to get Water down, at least.

I wouldn't wait more than 48 hours after your fill to return to the doctor's office for an unfill if you haven't had any Water. If you can get down water, then you can hold out a few more days to see if the swelling goes down and then you can gage if your fill is good for you or not.

You said you had your fill yesterday? If you can't get water down, you should make an appointment for an unfill. Just a slight unfill could do it.

Don't panic though. We all go through it. I even had a fill too tight UNDER FLOUROSCOPY! So, I swelled really bad after my fill and had to return to Mexico 3 days later for an unfill. Talk about stress! I hadn't had water or food in 3 days, about to shrivel up and die and had to get on the airplane to Mexico! haha... glad I can laugh about it now!

Good Luck... You'll be fine. Just try to get water down if you can before your unfill. Don't work out, walk too much, or even do household chores right now. Don't use any energy if you don't have to. You are dehydrated and want to do everything you can to keep that water in you.

    Keep us updated girlfriend! Dana

  3. Hi all,

Can someone help here. I had my second fill yesterday and I had quite a bad night, I can only sip very small amounts of Fluid at the moment or it comes back up. I wondered if its due to the stomach swelling after the fill, will this sort itself out, I've only got 4cc's in at the moment.

  4. Wow. I think I had assumed that my fills would be super-easy based on all that I'd heard about them but I went in for my first fill today and it was a pretty ugly experience.

I'm laying down and my doc starts to poke and prod _really_ hard in search of my port. This is super-uncomfortable. Then he takes out the largest needle I've ever seen. Now, I'm not particularly needle phobic but he had to dig around with the needle for what seemed like an eternity (about 5-7 minutes actually) before he found my port. It totally hurt!

So now I have a fill of 3.5cc and my port area/stomach is very, very tender. What the heck? My doc said as one loses weight, it's easier to find the port but I am _so_ not looking forward to my next fill.

    Blargh...

    Hi there,

I don't know what your doc was doing, but I've had two fills and never experienced that!! I'm in Scotland and we lie on a bed under a xray machine and we can see the screen showing the port and the band. We drink a barium meal and he can see how much restriction is required to slow down the flow of the barium meal. On top of that, he uses the exray machine to find the port and bam, one shot with a really THIN needle it was in, I felt no pain at all!! You should considor getting another doc to do your fills.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Hi there,

Guys, it's a life time of progress, don't expect things to happen straight away. I got banded on Nov 20th 08 and still not had a fill. I had to have an abcess removed next to my port (emergency op) I'm getting my first fill in two weeks. You just have to look at all the comments here to realise that it does happen eventually, you just need patients and trust that the band WILL work. I lost about 10lbs and yo yo'd between that for the last two months, I was feeling down expecting to have lost 28lbs by xmas etc.... Now I've accepted that it's taken 7 years to put this weight on it's going to take a while to come, quick weight loss isn't the answer. Be happy, you've made the biggest move, let the band and fills do the work. xxxxx Lynsay - Scotland xxxx

A sad story to tell, but I'm still full of hope.....

I had my band fitted in Prague on Nov 20 07. My stiches became infected about a month after the operation and my local GP put me on antibiotics. Then I found a Bariatric Surgeon in my home town of Aberdeen, Scotland, who's been taking excellent care of me. After Xmas he looked at my port and descided that it wasn't getting any better. Now I'm having an operation to get the port taken out so that area can heal and in 8 weeks I'll have the port re-located. I still haven't had a fill yet, but I've lost 7lbs and kept it off.

Has anyone else had this happen ??

  8. Hi chaps and chapess's...

I had my band fitted on the 20th Nov 07, trouble is, I've had an infection in a couple of my incisions. The large one on my belly has cleared up after some antibiotics but the port site is still leaking, not much, but never the less it's bothering me. I've got to go back to see my surgeon on the 8th of jan. Has anyone else had this problem. I might add that It's not painfull just leaky.

Oh one more thing, I've got quite alot of internal bruising (hematoma) that feels like i've got small rugby ball in my stomach, right in the middle from my belly button right up to the sternam.!! Not having much luck am I.!! I've only lost 8lbs and just ate a large bowl of Pasta.:help:

  9. Hi Dr Watkins,

Wandered if this may be an issue, my stiches have come to the surface on the larger scar on my tummy, which incidently had a hematoma during the operation. It's been 3 weeks now, but they've started oozing a bit and a clear liquid is coming from the actual cut area. The stich holes are closed now though. yesterday it was thumping a bit and I pushed it and a small amount of green puss came out, I pushed until it ran clear. I'm dressing it every few hours now and keeping it clean with iodene. However the liquid is still filling the dressing right through every hour.

  10. Hi there,

I had my surgery on the 20th of November. I'm onto eating what I want now as long as it's well chewed. I made the mistake of not doing that a couple of times and made myself sick!!

Problem is, I'm getting hungry really quickly !! All the time now, I'm eating around 1000 calories a day, but I put on a 1lb and a half last week, this really shocked me.

Has anyone had the same experience? Obviously I havne't had my infill done yet, do you think this will change once I've had an infill.??

  11. Hi Lynsay, I just posted a similar story in Jane's thread... I have made the decision to do it and since then have been feeling anxious and have put on over 6 lbs in the last month.. I also feel awful... need to get it off el pronto !! :biggrin1:

Tell me about it, I've definately got a food adiction and wonder how the band is going to work for me mentally. I think I'm going to get some NLP / cognitive therapy to help after I've had the band fitted. God, I feel so fat, I'm actually beginning to become aware of how much space my body is taking up.!! I can feel myself going out sideways now.

  12. Hi guys,

I'm having my operation in Prague soon in Nov.

I havent stopped eating since I've known I'm going. I've gained about 10lbs and I feel really uncomfortable. I've got a constant stitch feeling on the right hand side of my chest which means I've gone too far, my body just can't take it.

Did anyone else eat like this before the operation?

  13. Hi there folks

I live in Aberdeen Scotland. I'm having my lapband fitted on Nov 19 in Prague. I'm so excited about my future becoming slim, but I have all these fears that I'm going to be the only one it doesn't work on and I've been reading all these things on the net about it not working on people and "fill issues" on the band.

Does anyone have any good encouraging words for me, I really need it. Never met anyone or known anyone "apart from Sharon Ozborne" who's had it done.

    Lynsay from Scotland. xx:kiss2:

  14. Hello lovely people.

I've just descided to take the plunge and have a lap band fitted. I'm in Scotland and so surgery can be cheaper in other places round Europe. I've descided to go for a surgeon in Prague, checkoslovakia. The surgeon is a leader here in Europe at lapband surgery.

I don't want to have to travel to Prague when I need a fill, is there anyone in Scotland who can help?

    Lynsay x

Anyhow, I thought I would get intouch for some support. I'm feeling a wee bit nervous as to weather this is going to work for me. You know that feeling, "I'm going to be the only one in the world this doesn't work for" I keep thinking I'm always going to be hungry. I've read some stuff online and see that there can be problems with the band not being tight enough etc.

    SOMEONE TALK TO ME..!!!:help:
