  1. my doctor did not put a limit on pureed items. his suggestion also, was to eat until you feel satiety or begin to burp and then stop. i was told the 1/4 cup thing would begin after a fill, and would be used to judge whether or not you need another fill.

basically, my doc's rule is keep it under 800 calories per day and NEVER eat until it hurts.

  2. I noticed that the September 07 bandster's are doing this, so i would like to be a copy cat in the Tenacious Tens group.

Most of us are very recently filled or are still awaiting their fill. weight loss tracking isn't really important until after fill number one as we are in the healing phase right now, but i still thought it might encourage us to post now, and then post again next month.

i am one month out from surgery on the 18th. my weight loss for this month is 12 lbs. i'm surprised that i have not gained, as i am eating horribly.

my goal in the next month is to exercise at least 15 times in the gym, and start some other work outs at home. my goal in the next month is also to count calories 98% of the time and not allow my self freebies over the weekend.

so, if you do not want to put your weight loss yet becuase we are healing, then let us know your goals for next month. this way we can all work towards them together, and we are held accountable.

  3. Another complaint I have is how you can't even say Merry Christmas without offending someone. No more Christmas carols in schools. What is wrong with people these days? Say goodbye to the manger scenes in towns because all that is bing taken away these days. I can see how some may say that they are not being represented so go ahead and expand on it but don't take away others traditions.

i agree with you so much on this. my son goes to a private school. i myself am not a regular church attender, but i have my beliefs. it is horrible when your child actually asks you to never put him in a school that doesn't allow prayer, or a christmas program. i couldn't imagine my school without it. i know there is a seperation, but geez....

  4. you guys, i'm doing horrible. i know that this is bandster hell, and it will get better. well i say that i know this, but i don't. i'm not hungry, now that i'm eating mushy foods, but this head hunger is kicking my A##. uuuuuuuggggghhh, i still eat less than i did before, but this is just so much harder than i imagined. i never thought i had so much head hunger.

    lindata, how are you doing?

  5. i assumed that this would be easier than it is. i assumed i would have more control over my head hunger. i also assumed that i would lose "loads" during this post op phase.

-this is extremely hard, i'm not "hungry", but yet i can't keep my hands out of the snack cakes. i have got to cut out my carbs because if i don't, i have no control.

-all i think about is food. i think of way to "sneak" it so that my dh won't notice. (it is very unhealthy)

-i lost 12 pounds in the first week and a half, and i've lost nothing more since. i just keep hovering between the same 3 lbs. now granted, i can understand this becuase of the mentioned things above, but i eat maybe 1/3 of what i ate before, and i have been exercising.

  6. ..by the way, my doctor really leaves it up to us, but he strongly discourages it.

my family eates popcorn almost every night. i finally ate some last night. i had no problem getting it down, but after the second handful i wasn't interested in eating anymore.

i was curious about his theory because my son is 6 and has already had to undergo minor colon surgery which did not correct his problem. i'm trying to wean him off of the popcorn now as i would hate to know that i was contributing to his problem.

  7. After reading about the guy who died from cancer caused by microwave popcorn, it sounds even less appealing to me...

not trying to be difficult or anything, but i would love to see how they ever were able to prove that his cancer was caused by microwave popcorn. i'm sure it may have been theorized, but, that seems like an awful far fetched assumption. do you have details, or perhaps a site that i can go to read about it...i am interested.

-by the way, i know that this is a self-deprecating way to think, but everything causes cancer...right down to the alluminum in our deoderant. i truly believe this.

  8. i am having a really hard time dealing with my head hunger. i have been on a binge for the past 3 days and today was my worse. i consumed 1400 calories:faint:, and more than enough suger for one day. my daily intake is supposed to be limited to 800 calories and 40-60 grams of Protein today. Well, since post op, today is the only day that i actually ate the needed Protein. (i ordered some urjury packets today..so hope that helps).

anyways, before i ramble on too long, i thought it would be very beneficial for some of us "newbie's" to hear from the experienced bandster's about how they dealt with their head hunger.

this is the hardest part of the process for me, :angrythe head hunger. i think i have an oral fixation, but i can't chew gum anymore.

please share with us the tactics that you used to fight the gremlin in your head that is screaming EAT!!!!:help:

  9. My doctor thinks that popcorn is the root of most digestive problems including diaticulitis (spelling) and irritable bowel syndrome. my family and i are big popcorn eaters, and we usually all 3 share a bag at least 2 or 3 times a week. My doctor does not want me eating popcorn due the above reasons, but not my band. I was wondering if you eat popcorn and whether or not your doctor said you were able.

  10. the only time that i use this word, is when i am explaining to my son about how it's actual meaning is not used and instead it is used as an ultimate insult about someone. my son is 6. i live in arkansas, and it is disgusting to me to see how many people use this word regularly and do not even care. i let people know how i feel about it also. if my son or i am around someone using that word, i just flat out tell them that they should not talk like that (i don't care who they are).

  11. I'm 3 weeks and 1 day post op. I have had this happen before, but it is really bad now. My tongue is swollen and i have rub spots on the sides of my tongue (they aren't sores, they just hurt). my dh says it is because when you are thirsty, you suck on your tongue. ok, that could be it. since surgery, my mouth is so dry. it kills me when i'm working out, because there is just NO saliva in my mouth. (i take cymbalta also, that doesn't help)

so my question is, is this a Vitamin deficiency or is this from being dehydrated, or what?

  12. when you take a birth control pill, you can get pregnant if you do not take it at the same time everyday..lol, chances are still low, but even the timing of the pill everyday influences the effectives. by the way, i have a friend that uses the nuvaring and she has no problems with it whatsoever. do not be afraid by my infections that i got, i think i am just super sensitive anyways. also, toward the end of using the nuvaring i became sexually active. we would have the rough stuff and everything, it never came out and the only way that he could feel it was if he was using his hand (which didn't happen cuz, i don't like it).

  13. Reading this thread makes me realize how very fortunate i am. I was a little down for a while after surgery but i think it was mostly because it is hard to let go of the addiction to food. I have no real problems in my life right now ( except my son works on an army base in Iraq) and i need to be grateful for all i have. My heart goes out to those who are having a hard time. Donna

posting this thread made me realize the same thing. the only problems i'm having are dealing with a food addiction (my health has already improved greatly).

  14. when i was in your situation, i called my doctor. and i was in your situation, exactly 8 days after surgery. i was lucky, my doctor told me to go ahead and move to mushies. there is theory that rushing your diet can lead to slippage. my doctor has done over 1000 bands, with no slippage, so i trust him.

anyways, i called my doc and told them that i was starving right after i would eat a whole can of pureed Beans. she said, move to mushies. since then, i get full fast and stay full.

don't feel like a failure, you are not. you are human, and your swelling has probably just gone down faster, which is a good thing. this stage is very hard (i'm struggling on mushies with head hunger). you'll get through this..and besides think, before band what all else would you have eaten with that baked potato. i know for me it would have been a whole chicken sandwich, a yogurt, & a large coke. that's A LOT more calories than just the potato.

  15. i used the NUVA Ring for 2 years in college. A family friend who is also a gynecologist said it was the best as far as lower dose hormones (now they have the pill Yaz which is supposed to be better..but). i loved the convenience of my Nuva Ring. it was awesome. HOWEVER, i was not sexually active at the time, and i kept coming up with bacterial vaginitis (wasn't using toys or anything like that). i asked my gynocolost if it could have been the ring and she said that she didn't think so. however, i stopped using the NUVA Ring 3 years ago and i have not had it again since. Before, i literally was getting every 3 weeks or so. I may just be really sensitive though, as i cannot take baths due to urinary tract infections, have to be super careful with soap for that reason too, and i cannot use latex condoms for that reason.

it is wonderful though, for birth control without thinking about it.

  16. once we cross into the mushies phase of our doctor, they say no liquid calories at all, even if it is a Protein Shake. i think i am going to start to drink Protein Shakes again though because i just cannot get adequate Protein. i'm very tired again today.

my doctor's office did mention some protein that you can add to Water, but it would still be 70 calories (i haven't found anything yet, that i would want to add to water). i think one good protein shake would be good for me, and i may start that again soon. What type of protein shakes do you use? I have the unflavored whey protein, but i'm not supposed to have Soups and stuff anymore, and i can't quite figure out how to add it to certain foods without it turning hard.

  17. Are you having your turkey sausage whole or putting it in a blender?

i'm having it whole, i'm 3 weeks post op, and the turkey sausage that i purchased is the same consistency as meatloaf, so it is good with my doctor. i haven't had any problems with it (i haven't had problems with any of the foods that i have tried, not even steamed broccolli), but most days i just eat 2 links, i'm usually not hungry enough to have more than that. although today, i had 2 links and an egg.

i tried putting Protein powder in 2 eggs..bad idea, i tried putting Protein Powder in yogurt...bad idea, i was going to put it in my meatloaf, but i was too hungry for something good to try another....bad idea. :).

  18. Yesterday i had the best eating day ever. :whoo:i made it all the way until right before consuming any empty calories. The right before i went to bed, the nasty monster in my head taunted "you have 150 calories to spare, you may as well eat a fudgsicle", so i did.....and a 100 calorie carrot cake. :hungry:ok, so that wasn't so bad, i'm really not that concerned right now, because i'm exercising, eating less, etc. BUT...

today, i had all intentions of consuming my Protein and doing no snacking. well, i sort of had a binge. :paranoid i ate 300 empty calories. i wasn't beating myself up about though,:angry i just figure i'll do the best that i can. so, i had the 300 empty calories and then i went to the gym on my lunch break.

BUT.... on my way from the gym back to work i ate a ham and cheese wrap (no bread), THEN..it hit. dead tired, fatigue. :faint:my sugar is crashing. and this is the first time that i realized that i used to feel like this every day and i haven't felt like this since i was banded. I FEEL LIKE CRUD!!:sick

so, that's it. now that i have an experience to back me, my sugar cravings are going to be satisfied with fruit and not cake, i forgot how horrible it made me feel.
