  1. I stopped drinking coffee before surgery and had not had it until about 2 months after surgery. Now if I have a cup,it is limited to a half a cup to a cup a day.
  2. I did not have a revision, just hernia surgery and RNY,but I have had three endoscopies with dilations for strictures. I have no idea where I go from here.
  3. Oh goodness what a mess. I don't know if the Vitamin issue is different for males and females. I am hoping someone will chime in with that. I cannot imagine having such a huge surgery without the surgeon and his team being part of your recovery and new life.
  4. OP, I have skimmed through the posts, but my advice would be to call your surgeon and get an appointment in his office and forget about the surgical unit, etc. Does he have an office or is he just a surgeon for the hospital? I noticed you said you have Tricare, so does that mean you were at the VA or a military hospital, or was it a regular hospital?
  5. This was a great post. I will say that my 2 week pre surgical diet was nothing compared to what I've gone through after my surgery, unfortunately.
  6. Oh really? IfI have to go back in again, I am going to mention it. He is talking about a revision of the surgery, possibly, but it just seems like they should be able to place something in there to keep it from closing up all the time. It is also possible that he is not the one that would do that surgery.
  7. I feel bony in different areas too and it is so weird!
  8. I think that is normal. It is a big undertaking. I was nervous as well. You just need to make sure you go into it sure that it is what you want to do and do all of your research. I would say not to listen to people giving you info such as your friend. She is telling you what she thinks, and not what she knows. As you have questions, write them down and research them, have them with you when you see your surgeon so they can go over it with you. Good Luck!
  9. They can't. I am not a doctor so I cannot answer that for you, sorry. They can do other tests which do not involve scopes.
  10. The scope doesn't go through all off the intestines as it is, only the upper GI tract. The bottom portion of the stomach cannot be accessed, nor can the duodenum. http://s29.photobucket.com/user/x828/media/oh/rny.jpg.html
  11. That is ridiculous. Of course you can. I have had three since my RNY. I would ask them where they got their info or if they can explain why that is the case.
  12. Oh sorry to hear that! I just wish one of these times I won't have to go back again!
  13. I have heard of the three months s/p surgery hair falling out but not nine. Is that typical?
  14. Well I am not getting the amount of Protein in that I am supposed to, but I was told it is due to the trauma of the surgery. I have an appointment to get a haircut on Tuesday. Hopefully a little shorter of a cut will make it look better. My sweetie won't like it but you gotta do what ya gotta do!
  15. I had a big issue with this because of the terribly bitter taste. I never found anything that masked the taste. As far as applesauce, you can buy unsweetened if you choose to go that route.
  16. The BMI for my age/female is 32 and I am overweight and not obese anymore! I was looking at a chart that was for everyone and not only female and it still listed me as obese for two more points..... I think I will go with the female chart! Overweight! Funny to be happy to be overweight!
  17. When your thighs don't rub together when you walk!!!! WOOTWOOTWOOT! I noticed that today and I was like...there is something wrong with my legs. I had to laugh when I realized it was just that my legs weren't rubbing together like they usually do. I don't mind having that wrong with me! =)
  18. Oh your date is coming right up!!! Good luck with your surgery!!! =)
  19. Thank you. I just have to wonder if there is something else they can do to keep it from constantly closing. Something along the lines of when a stent is placed in an artery.
  20. Had my third endoscopy this morning with yet another stricture. I have no idea when this will stop happening, and it is really just not fun. Have any of you had exp with strictures?
  21. I ate a little bit of a piece of cake last month. I knew I shouldn't have because it could have possibly caused dumping syndrome due to the sugar. It didn't. I ate some chicken wings and took the skin off. Even with the skin removed it must have been pretty greasy and I got sick immediately. At this point I have found that if it is at all greasy, I get sick. I would rather not have it than feel the way it makes me feel but you almost have to try things to find out what you are able to tolerate.
  22. I had RNY. I actually just got home from being in the ER all day.... Tomorrow I have an endoscopy as already scheduled...
  23. Just like it says. My stomach is very sensitive and I have a hard time gauging what I can do. Even when it has been well enough time for me to be able to eat again or take a sip of something, it isn't. I have been sick all evening and I guess this happens 2-3 times a week. It is a very painful process for me. I go in for my third endoscopy this Thursday. I just had one almost three weeks ago, I guess it was and another four weeks before that. I have a stricture that keeps coming back. I am not sure how many times the surgeon is going to dilate it before he decides to go ahead and do a revision. I am feeling much better than I did in the first couple of months after my surgery but I am nowhere close to feeling normal by any means. I love the fact that I have lost weight and have more energy and can get around with more ease. My RA and OA have really improved, but feeling like I do right now is the pits.
  24. It's no biggie. They told me to just not harp on the questions and to answer the first thing that comes to mind. I did exactly as they said and my results showed that I was apprehensive about having the surgery, and it was exactly right. I was very apprehensive and when I took that test, I was not sure about going through with the surgery. How they got that out of the questions they asked me I will never know.
