I am getting everything together for surgery today. Hoping all goes well. I am not really nervous right now, but we will see! Hope everyone has a great day today!

I am on an on Q pump but I really don't think it is doing much. I was rx oxycodone liquid and I am using it. I think Iam one of those people that pain meds just really doesn't help much...

I have not even felt hungry. I do not know when that will change. I am on my liquid post op diet right now. Oh believe me, the pain is still here. Getting up and down from a chair kills me. The gas is awful..... You know I loved those three things too but in thinking of them, I am not craving them. I guess somewhere down the line I will be able to eat those things in moderation. My cousin had this surgery years ago and she weighs more than she did when she had the surgery. She eats all of the wrong things and has just given up. I don't want that to happen to me.

I'm 5'5" , 370# which surgery?
pik replied to MichelleTN's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think you should talk to your surgeon and see what he thinks. My Rheumatologist suggested the sleeve for me, but my insurance did not cover it. I saw one surgeon and he was hard core lapband and nothing else. I got a second opinion from another physician in the group and he said bypass and nothing else. For me personally and with my other issues, GB made more sense and it is what I had just four days ago. I cannot tell you as of yet how it has helped me. I am still recovering. Good luck! -
I feel like that is what is causing most (but not all) of my pain and it is awful! I actually feel like there is MORE of it in there!!! I know I have to walk, and I do that a little. I am having a hard time with that because of my RA and the chest pain. Is there anything else you have tried that has worked? Anything??

It seemed to help the pain for a little while, but I feel it coming back. Hopefully it wont come back in full effect! -

I love these! I know when I have them, they are always fried. I see that these are baked. Yumm! -
Yes I have, and that is probably what it was, but it was unbearable. The pain medication did not touch it. My BP was strange...it would go to OMG very high to OMG way too low..... I know all of this is going to get better, but since the surgery I have been asking myself why I even did this! I know I had to do it either way, for the hernia... =/

Thanks. My fiance' is going to get the strips right now and I have been doing some extra walking. My God it is terrible! -
Thanks guys. I just felt that with each day I was feeling a little better and then came today and I am worse. I don't know, it may have something to do with my Rheumatoid Arthritis or Fibro but it is awful. I have managed 11 oz of a Protein drink today and that is it. It just hurts......

Did you have to pay your surgical copay upfront
pik replied to Natasha Estrada's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is not how mine went. I have a 20% copay and they did an estimation of the surgery/hospital costs and billed me the 20% previous to the surgery. -
Unfortunately I feel much worse today than I did yesterday. A lot of pain in my abdomen and it doesn't feel great when I drink something. Lots of chest pain that has never stopped since I came out of recovery. They did a cardiac work up on me when I was there and I had monitors on me the whole time. This does suck for me right now.....

What to pack to bring to the hospital for your stay during surgery
pik replied to AshleePage's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I brought a lot of things, but all in all, most none of them were used. I used my toothbrush and toothpaste and my brush. I brought a comfy pair of sweats and a big t shirt to wear home. I have obstructive sleep Apnea, so I had to bring my CPAP machine. My sweetie brought me some ear plugs because the girl next to me along with her family and friends were loud all day long and into the night. I brought my cross stitch because I had hopes of feeling much better than I did. I didn't touch it! My lip balm came in handy because they wouldn't let me drink for a while. I wore the hospital gown while I was there, but I did pack underwear for three days. I finally got a pair on the day after my surgery and it was a feat for sure! I was tired of everyone seeing my butt! -
Did you have to pay your surgical copay upfront
pik replied to Natasha Estrada's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to pay everything to the surgical group which was 730 + 300 + 153 before having the surgery and I got an invoice from the hospital telling me I have to pay 1,216 prior to the surgery or the day of. That was my 20 % of the surgery and know that whatever you have to pay the hospital is totally separate from the dr. I was pretty bad off after the surgery and had extra drs and extra testing, so I don't know what will happen with those charges of if they will be grouped under what I already paid. -
If your dr thinks you may have an autoimmune disease, you should start with a Rheumatologist. Your internist should be able to refer you to one. I am not sure about waiting or not waiting until after the surgery to do this. If you are started on some type of biologic you will have to stop it prior to the surgery and then after the surgery at your surgeons discretion.

I'm so sorry, I hope you can get some relief soon! My pain wasn't too bad after the sleeve so I'm praying I'll have similar results with the bypass. Keep us updated! Mine seems to be worse than what I have been reading of many others. I think it may have something to do with my Rheumatoid Arthritis, unfortunately. I guess I will have to just take it one day at a time. My doc is concerned I have RA but wants to wait until after surgery to test me. I have a constant 99.8 ish fever and have had it every single time it's been taken at many different offices over the last year and I have bad psoriasis. I guess we will see after surgery when we do the blood work. I have lots of muscle pain but not much joint pain..do you have any of these symptoms? Maybe I should push to get the test first.. Did he mention fibromyalgia or do a pressure or trigger point test? I have both FM and RA. The RA hurts more in the joints and the FM hurts more in the muscle.

Virginia 12 month supervised programe
pik replied to Tgunnchunky2spunky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had to be on a weight loss program per se, but I did lose weight on my own before the surgery. OP you can certainly see the difference and you are doing great! Keep up the good work! -
It is attached to me right now but I don't feel like it is doing a thing! I actually had no idea it was there or they were even putting it there until I felt it in my bed laying next to me. My pain has been quite tremendous and they say that if I took it out early it would probably be worse. I have a feeling I am one of those patients that pain medicines really do not work for...
-
Thanks everyone. The pain is getting better day by day, so that is good. I have this pump attached to me that has some kind of lidocaine based material. It was there after my surgery and I was wondering what the heck! I lost 6 pounds of the weight I gained, You know what I found in my bed when I got up to get ready to go home? A razor blade. Thankfully I did not get cut with that thing! I did report it and that made my leaving spread out longer, but that's ok.

They gave many different things for both pain and nausea and most of didn't even touch my problems. There was a girl in a bed beside me who was asking for delaudid all day and night long and she got it. The last time I asked for something for both things through the night (and it was 2 hours past the time) the nurse told me he wanted me to cycle through the pain and nausea. I also gained over ten pounds with the surgery with all of the fluids they packed into me. Right now when I go to the bathroom or walk a little I get chest pain.... This surgery for me suck. I will be glad once all of these bad days are behind me. This doesn't happen to everyone, I have read, but I am one of the lucky ones!
