  1. I have a 3yo just over 30 lbs, and my surgeon said for about 4 weeks I would need to sit down and have him climb up on me. It wasn't necessarily the carrying him that could cause problems as much as the bending & pulling to pick him up from floor. Hope that helps.
  2. I wasn't given a required amount to lose on the pre-op. I was just told by my nut that people lose anywhere from 0 to 14 lbs, and that those who don't lose probably didn't follow the prescribed diet. I was also told the surgeon can tell when he gets in there by the state of my liver. That was enough to get me committed to the pre-op diet! LOL!
  3. I'd say call your surgeon's office, just to be safe.
  4. I think I was more worried about pre-op diet than surgery, and so far, so good.
  5. Prayers going up for you!
  6. Just an FYI regarding change in taste buds, I asked my nut about it and she said it can be caused by a zinc deficiency, so you might want to have your levels checked out.
  7. I haven't had my surgery yet (just started my pre-op diet), but I wanted to throw something out there regarding tastes changing. I asked my nut about it, and she said that happens when there's a zinc deficiency. Just thought that was interesting.....
  8. Once I'm home it's no problem cause we're 30 minutes from ANYTHING. But getting to & from work going through "town" is a nightmare!
  9. We raise grass-fed beef, and have multiple freezers FULL of the stuff. It's AWESOME, and I fully intend to enjoy it again (someday)! It truly is so much more tender than commercial beef, IMO.
  10. You are truly an inspiration and a testament to the fact that if you do the work, it will work!!! Thank you for the book recommendation your therapist shared. I am sure that will be a useful tool in my arsenal as I begin my journey. As will your blog...I'm headed there now!
  11. Wow, you've rocked the pre-op diet! Way to go. I'm just starting it today, but I have high hopes that I can get through it without any major slip-ups. I'd love to weight less on surgery day than I do today. Good luck to you and let us know how you're doing when you feel up to it.

Roo, Thank you for your reply & your comments. I will do it! I will take a picture with my baby when I get home tonight! It will serve as my "before" since I started my 2 week pre-op diet this morning.
  13. The increased energy it gives me, because it allows me to keep up with my very active toddler.

I also understand where you're coming from. I have a 3yo son and I could count on one hand the number of pictures have of the two of us together. I have pictures of him with everyone else in the family, but I just hate pics of myself. I really want to be in the picture though, and my surgery is coming up on 7/1, so hopefully this holiday season will see more of me in our pictures!
  15. My nut said that coffee, regardless of caffeine content, is acidic and to avoid it for a period of time because of that. Stick with the decaf tea and see if that helps.
  16. July 1st in TN! Yay!
  17. Has anyone tried the Chicken Soup for the Soul brand broths yet? I just found them in my local grocery, and they come in the boxes. They have a BBQ Beef flavor, and an Italian Chicken flavor. I bought them both to try during my 2 week pre-op that I start on Tuesday. I hope they're good. I also got Swanson's box of Hot & Sour flavored broth. I think they also do a Mexican Tortilla infused broth and I Thai Ginger infused broth. Thought I'd throw that out there for anybody else struggling with getting bored by the plain old broths. Good luck everyone!
  18. Definitely give them a try now. That way you can find something you tolerate (and maybe even....wait for it....ENJOY! LOL!) before you have to begin pre-op. Just be aware that you aren't going to like them all, but you should be able to find something that you don't mind too much. Good luck!
  19. Yay! Congratulations on your approval & getting your surgery date. I'll be right behind you, mine is 7/1. Best of luck to you!
  20. Definitely call the insurance company and ask for the status. It only takes a second, and it could help you get scheduled if they tell you you're approved. My doctor's office didn't know I was approved until I called them because the insurance company didn't call them, they MAILED (as in SNAIL MAILED) a letter. It was another week before the doctor's office received the letter, but I had the approval & the date scheduled before then just for making the call.
  21. It really is a matter of personal taste. If you have time before surgery, it might help to order samples of many different brands and flavors to taste test. I know you can get all 15 flavors of the Syntrax Nectars for like $16 including shipping. Also, at Nashua Nutrition http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/protein-powders/protein-powder-samples-1-serving.html you can order samples of a bunch of different brands. I would really recommend doing that before purchasing any big tubs of powder. Also, GNC stores will take back anything you purchased at their store if you don't like it. Always good to know! Good luck!
  22. Yay! That's great. My surgery was originally scheduled for 7/15, but my approval came quickly too and now I'm having it on 7/1!!! So excited.
  23. At my lowest adult weight of 140 I was wearing a 7/8. I had to work really hard to maintain at that weight, and I'm not sure I could get there again. Still, I've set that as my goal, but I'm not ruling out going lower if my body can get there AND maintain it without having to over-exercise or undernourish myself. My body type is curvier too, so I don't expect I'll ever be "stick-thin" because that's just not the way I'm made, but like @@LilMissDiva Irene said, I won't rule anything out. If my body could sustain a "curvy XS" than so be it!
