  1. I am 2 weeks post op and am a RN. I have had a lot of pain to left side also I wound up having infection that had to be aspirated and then today more drainage. The left side is where they move different instruments in amd out along with if his surgeon removes a piece of intestine.sonthis is why that side will hurt more. I did a lot of reading and preparing but never thought of an abscess would make my pain to that area so bad. Tell him rest don't over do it and follow doctor orders it will get better.

  2. Hi so I had RNY on 24th and am very sore on the left side. I was told that's the largest area where they go in and out with instruments so it will be sore also where they remove a piece of intestine and take out. I have developed on infection of some sort now to that area but have only needed pain medication once today. No drains o discharge however if this area I Fluid filled I wish they would have left a drain. I have gone thru crying and wondering what did I do but know it will get better. Good luck and beat wishes.

  3. I am a week out RNY and I am having pain to the left side with what feels like is muscle cramping. I took magnesium citrate so I have had a bowel movement. This pain is in a knot form and goes from under left breast to left lower abdomen. Anyone have this happen. The doctor office says it's normal but it doesn't feel normal. Please any input.

  4. I stopped taking in high calorie and sugar foods months prior so I wouldn't go thru withdrawal. I was on a low carb diet 2 weeks prior and liquids 2 days prior to surgery. It helped with cravings etc. I do have 5 stabs and an area where I had 2 JP drains it is interesting to read how everyone else is doing and materials given. I have done research also on what Duke gives to there patients. I think it medical training and personal preference.

  5. So some truth about surgery even with all the reading I did it did not prepare me for the horrible nausea I have had for the past 2 days nor the pain at the site where the stapler went in. While having the swallow test done it was my moment of time "what did I do to myself" I'm sure that it will all be worth it. Having the drains removed was a weird feeling but glad they are out. Looking forward to healing and not being in pain.
