I was approved in 5 days...definitely a surprise!

I'm surprised that we have to go through it again since we went through it before with the band
Forgot to mention that I was approved in less than a week once everything was submitted.
-
. Did you have to wait long when you started the process for approval?
Not too long. I started the whole process in mid-May...and approved approximately 3 months later. I had 4 nutrition classes, psych eval, labs and a stress test.

Good Luck with everything. I have RA as well and was recommended to do sleeve over bypass. My surgeon said my overactive immune system would essentially kill the band, so that was out from the beginning. I manage the RA with a low dose of Mobic right now. Hoping that removing excess weight off my joints will help me step away from it completely.

Congrats!

So sorry...very irresponsible on their part. I received a print out of my insurance requirements/coverage after the first initial consultation. Why in the world would they let you go through the insurance hoops without verifying coverage? Ridiculous. I hope you find a solution soon...keep us posted.

Cigna didn't set specific weight loss requirements. I lost 10 lbs during the 4 month process. I got approved in less than a week.

Well finished my last BEND class today and will most likely not be scheduled until December. I'm a little discouraged today.
Sorry to hear that...the office is so busy! I was approved last month and given a November date.

Hey Shannon...I am pre-op and going through KBI too. I was approved last week. I have an endoscopy and bariatric university remaining. Surgery in November. I love the staff! My 3 month insurance process was so organized...time really flew by. Good Luck on your journey!

That is great news! Excited for you!

You look great!

Really? Only 3 days?? I could only hope to be so lucky! Based on when I had my chest x-ray, I am guessing my pre-cert request got submitted Thursday-Friday. So maybe I will hear something by the end of the week....and it's approved! I would cry if they denied me. I'm trying not to think about it, but it's really all I can think about!
I was shocked! They took a few days to notify my bariatric center, but my file was submitted to them on 8/18 and the approval letter I got in the mail was dated 8/21! My coordinator said Cigna usually answers in a week. Maybe my 40+ BMI helped me. I was actually worried because I only lost 10 lbs in the 90 day supervised diet, but I believe they just wanted to see ANY loss. Hope you hear good news soon...keep us posted!

I'm so ready to hit the pool and start really working out,Dr told me I can start swimming next week. I'm really thinking about training for a fun run( and I hate running). Any of you tried a fun run or one of the mud courses?
Go for it! I've done The Survival Race and The Patriot Games...had a great time. The mud is truly ridiculous, but my skin looked amazing after I got clean lol. I am pre-op, so I am looking forward to improving my speed when I tackle these events after weight loss.

Does anyone have any experience with Cigna Insurance? That's who I have and I don't know what their policy is on this subject yet. I just started thinking about getting this done 2 days ago.
I have Cigna. I did a 90 day supervised nutrition program (classes and weigh-ins), psych eval, bloodwork, stress test and a letter from my PCP (must state that the doc recommends *and* medically clears you for surgery). I had no standard comorbidities, but my BMI is over 40. My case was submitted on 8/18 and I was approved 3 days later.
-
Good Luck! My case was submitted to Cigna on 8/18 and it was approved 3 days later.
-
My 90 day period started with the first physician visit. I did 4 nutrition classes with a dietitian during that time as well (May 15-August 14). My case was submitted to Cigna on 8/18 and approved 3 days later. Good Luck with your approval!

Thank you! Congrats to you too. Very excited about our journey!

I received my approval today! I am getting married in October, so surgery is scheduled for November 20. The 3 month approval process flew by. Good Luck to everyone!

I got my Cigna approval today! It took a week. October is wedding month, so I scheduled surgery for November 20.

I had mine today and it was surprisingly uneventful. I remember talking to the nurses beforehand and then I woke up in recovery. Throat is a little sore, but no big deal.
