Hope your recovery goes well! A friend is doing fantastic on Wegovy. I am so glad we have another tool available.vsgchick I’m glad to hear you reached your goal. I just had gastric bypass revision endoscopic so they reduced my opening from 25mm to 8 and I got two sutures yesterday. I will wait until a month and get on Wegovy as well to increase my weight loss.L. Knight and Olarance75 reacted to this -
Hello! Mounjaro has been great for me. I lost the remainder of my regain and 10 additional pounds. I am currently under my lowest sleeve weight and see my bariatric office in 2 weeks to discuss a maintenance plan. I didn't go higher than the 10mg dose (the highest doses are 12.5mg and 15mg). I didn't have any crazy side effects. GLP-1s seem to be a game changer for a lot of people...especially veteran WLS that need a boost but don't want revisions.Tupelo and vsgchick I’m curious how is your weight loss going with Mounjaro now that it’s been months

You're welcome! Both medications delay gastric emptying, so that can definitely bring back the restricted feeling. I haven't had any side effects with Mounjaro yet. I ended my Saxenda run at the highest dose, so the beginning dose of Mounjaro (2.5mg) probably won't be an issue. I move up to 5mg next month, so we'll see what happens then. My side effects with Saxenda happened early on and were very mild...fatigue and a little nausea during the first week. I was fine after that. I am grateful to have a bariatric doctor that is educated on GLP-1s and open to prescribing them when needed. I didn't want to go the revision route (and probably wasn't a candidate because even with the regain, I've maintained over 70% of my original weight loss). I just needed an additional tool. [emoji4]Thank you! I appreciate your response. I would love to hear more about your transition to Mounjaro as you take this journey. I really like how you phrase it as turning off the food voice in your head. My friends says the same thing. She calls it a reset, not because it actually shrinks her stomach but she seems more physically aware of her restriction again. Maybe it is because the emotional food voices are more quiet? I don't know but GLP-1's do seem like a great tool for previous WLS patients. Have you had any new side effects that you didn't have on Saxenda?Tink22-sleeve, SleeverSk and UnderTheCaliSun reacted to this -
Hi! I was sleeved in 2014...original loss was 185 lbs. Regained 40 lbs during the pandemic. I started Saxenda in January of this year and lost 35 lbs. I moved to Mounjaro last week (off label, as I am not diabetic) because I was tired of Saxenda's daily injection. I don't view GLP-1s as a pouch reset, but they definitely help turn off the "food voice" in my head. I am on the beginning dose of Mounjaro, so haven't experienced the full power yet. I still have decent restriction, so capacity wasn't my problem. Slider foods/snacking caused my weight gain.
I know medication isn't for everyone, but I honestly believe GLP-1s should at least be mentioned to WLS patients dealing with regain. I see it as a 1-2 punch for me.

Hello! Still trucking! I had sleeve in November 2014...original total loss was 185 lbs. I am currently 15 lbs over my lowest weight, but slowly working my way back down. Hard to believe it has been almost 7 years!

Hi! Congrats on your success!
I am 6 years post with sleeve. I've lost 175 lbs and working towards an additional 25 lbs. I track my food daily with MyFitnessPal since 2014. I am too generous with myself to "eyeball" food, so weighing/measuring is a must. I weigh myself daily to stay on track/watch trends, but only record Saturday's weight.
I work out 5x per week...a mix of walk/run intervals, cycling, yoga and kettlebell. I also use YouTube videos and subscribe to the Peloton app.
FYI, there is a WLS Veterans board on this site. I've seen everything from 2-10 years of tenure. Worth checking out. -
I weigh every morning, but only record my Saturday weight. I don't let little fluctuations play with my head.

Almost 6 years out and still can't eat spaghetti squash. It doesn't make me vomit, but the pain is ridiculous. So odd. I've tried it 3x over the years and finally had to give up.

+1 on Cammy's suggestion of remembering your "why". It is so easy to lose sight of that when the excess weight is gone and you feel great/love the way you look. I regularly remind myself of what life was like when I weighed 400 lbs. The physical and mental pain...refusing to attend concerts/events...avoiding airplanes, amusement parks, etc. I wasn't living...simply existing.
Revisit your list and before photos! Set some reasonable goals. I say reasonable because the honeymoon phase is over for us veterans. We are truly driving the car now. Sleeve is an air bag/safety feature. LolTracyringo, FluffyChix and CammyC reacted to this -
Thank you so much! I have a sleeve fairy godmother that holds me accountable. She is 7 years post and still rocking it. Total motivation. I miss the honeymoon period, but still happy to have some restriction this far out. If I focus on Protein and limit the slider foods, my sleeve is still running the show.WTG!!! This makes my heart so happy and gives me hope!! Congrats on your fantastic longevity!!

I'm still here! I had VSG in November 2014 and lost 185 lbs. I regained 20 lbs last year (just being careless lol), but I refocused at the beginning of 2020 and I've lost 15 lbs. Glad to see veterans post. Sleeve Life definitely isn't easy at 5+ years, but still grateful for VSG.

Happy New Year Vets! I am 5 years post. My original loss was 185 lbs. I have regained 20 lbs in the last couple of years. Focused on getting back down to my low weight and doing a better job with maintenance. I still consider myself a WLS patient, but we are definitely driving the car now. Hope everyone has a wonderful year! [emoji322][emoji322][emoji322]

It really does...I'm guessing with a break from constant food digestion, the body can focus on other beneficial tasks. I feel so much better, I plan to keep fasting permanently.Seems to work, right?
It's no miracle but it really seems to help chronic inflammation issues and I seem to need less sleep. -

Hi all...definitely need something else to keep me accountable. I am 4 years post...lost 185 lbs...let 15 lbs creep back on in the last year. Must stop the trend...and tune out the people that tell me "but you've done so well!" Lol. 15 lbs can be 30 by summer if I am not careful. Using MFP...keeping calories under 1400.

I will be 4 years post-op in November and I visit my bariatric center annually for lab review and barium swallow (my sleeve hasn't changed much since Year 1, but I still like to see it every year lol). I plan to continue my annual appointments for life. It gives me accountability and peace of mind.

I am 14 months post-op sleeve...down 170 lbs. I lost 100 lbs in the first 5 months.

Good Luck with your decision! I had sleeve surgery on November 20, 2014 and I've lost 152 lbs (21 lbs to surgeon's goal). I had an easy procedure and recovery. I have no regrets.

I will hit a year on November 20. I've lost 150 lbs...40 lbs until surgeon's goal. The sleeve exceeded my expectations. Happy Anniversary to everyone. ????

I am in a similar place as you. Under my bariatric doctor's goal, but not underweight. My BMI is 26, so still "overweight", but I am happy at this weight and my bariatric and primary doctors approve.
