Struggling to lose pre op weight
I was given three cases of Protein drinks and that's all I'm supposed to eat before surgery. I've been doing it for 5 days and I think I've only lost 2 lbs. I think they were looking for 10 lbs.

The Good with the bad
try to use all the doctors that were in the same building as my surgeon, but the surgeon's office kept saying they hadn't received the report. I physically went down to the surgeon's office and took the gastroenterologist's Suddenly, they had the report. l have crossed every T and dotted every I. It's all happening on August 28, 2014. Finally!

August 28, 2014
I go for my weigh-in tomorrow and I don't think I've lost that much. I just got the drinks last Thursday, but I had a 70th birthday scheduled before they called me and surgery date. Then my husband had a 30th anniversary and we had cake, so I've had 2 pieces of cake while on the Protein shake diet. I'm worried they won't do my surgery now.

Any Florida Sleevers?
I've had three drinks today. I have two more today. My hospital check in is Wednesday. The surgeon weighs me in on Wednesday also, but surgery is still 11 days off. They are moving. I guess I should just get my overnight bag packed and relax. The hospital will tell me how to arrive for surgery. When I had my Endoscope, they told me to arrive at 6:00 a.m. They put the I.V. in and I was knocked out and I was done. I hope that is the same procedure.

How to add fiber without grains or supplements?
I'm complaining on Day 2 of the pre-op fiber drink phase because I had 4 drinks yesterday and no BM. The nurse at Florida Surgical Weight Loss Center told me I would have constipation problems because the Protein drinks don't have any fiber in them. She suggested that I add a fibrous item to the drink meals. I'm going to add an egg to my lunch meal and see if that helps.

New To The Gastric Sleeve Surgery Board, Looking For Other Recovery Minded People:)
I'm Jackie, addict. I've been attending 12 step meetings for 15 years. I stated food, mostly sugar, was my drug of choice. I followed FAA for 5 years until they re-wrote the basic text and changed the food plan. Only newcomers would do that. I will be sleeved on August 28th. I'm 13 days away. I'm choking in these Protein drinks. I will do it.

August 28, 2014
I started the pre-op this a.m. and the drinks are terrible! I had to choke it down and I'm supposed to drink one every 3 hours. Eww. I will choke it down because I can see an end. It's just 13 days. I can do this. I don't want to, but I'm going to.

Aug 22 is my date!
My surgery is August 28, 2014. I started my Protein drinks this a.m. Now I know what everyone is talking about. These drinks suck. I hate them. I won't be binging on these drinks, but I will choke then down because I paid $200.00 for them and I can't afford to replace them with

Calling all August Sleevers!
I'm starting my pre-op Opti-Fast diet tomorrow. It will only be one week pre-surgery. I thought they would reschedule me when I told them that my surgery is 8/28/14 and I never got the Opti-Fast until Wednesday. Today is the 15th already. I'll start on Saturday and go in the on the 20th to be weighed. I'll only be on the Opti-Fast for 5 days before the weigh-in. Then 8 more days until surgery.

August 26 Sleevers
I'm having my surgery on August 28, 2014. I just went to pick up my Protein shakes to start on tomorrow or Saturday. It won't be a full two weeks, but she said it really only needs to be one full week. She said if I'm faithful for one full week, the liver will shrink. I'm supposed to have a Protein Drink every 3 hours. They should be fully consumed in 5 - 7 minutes. I got one of every flavor. I have more than I will need for the pre-op diet, so I will have left-overs. I'm excited to be getting in the boat.

Surgery Approved!
It really depends on whether insurance knows you are seeking WLS. My insurance Co. knew I was searching WLS because they had already denied it in January because of the doctor I chose. He was on their plan last year. That's why I chose the insurance. They sent me a list of bariatric surgeon's they do have and I went forward with that information.

Risks of Side Effects from VSG
I allowed a surgeon to partially knock me out to inspect my heart and arteries and I was super scared about that. I thought about the risks of finding clogs and needing open heart surgery. None of that happened. I'm still recovering from the groin surgery. My sleeve surgery is scheduled for 8/28/14. I expect I'll still be recovering from the groin surgery when I'm recovering from the sleeve surgery. I'm just going for it so I can get on with my life getting thinner instead of getting fatter.

Surgery Approved!
My surgeon's office called me and said insurance approved my sleeve surgery. I have to go to their office tomorrow to pick up the Protein shakes and start taking them for 2 weeks. My surgery will be on August 28, 2014. Yahoo! I have waited over two years for this. I'm so excited! I can't wait, but I know I have to.

Any Newbies with United Healthcare Choice plus
I have United Medicare Complete. I have done all my pre-op checks and now they are submitting my case to insurance. I don't know how long that will take. I'm still in the wait and see game.

Pre-op cardiac clearance.
I had an abnormal stress test and then I had an abnormal C-scan. I went into the hospital on Tuesday for C-scan which led to cathortize scan to unblock any arteries. The procedure is major surgery. I have to be off my feet for 3 to 4 days. There were no blockages. All the arteries were open, so my Cardiologist said he could clear me for gastric sleeve surgery. All this pre-op clearance is taking forever. It's already August and it probably will be another two months. I'm getting discouraged.

Any Florida Sleevers?
Aldi's is a Canadian store. A lot of the products come from Canada. Their roasted Rice Cereal Tastes just like Rice Crispies. I like Trader Joe's yogurt because they make it themselves and it's sugar free.

More Cardiac clearance news:
Today, I went to the diagnostic center that is approved by my insurance to pick up beta blockers that I was told I would need to take the day before the cat scan. I thought the cat scan was going to be tomorrow. No no no, They have reserved an appt. for me for Monday at 9:00 a.m., but I should be there by 8:00 a.m. The center is 14 miles from my house, but it's 14 miles on busy roads including a new road to crossover from the cross-town expressway to one interstate that leads to another interstate. I can drive, but I don't love to drive. I do it because it's necessary. The nurse said that the scan will be done on Monday as long as the Cardiologist's nurse alerts the insurance company about it and an approval is given to Tower (the diagnostic center). There was already an approval, but it has already expired. I don't think the cardiologist's office likes me very much because they set the scan up at a hospital that I don't like and I already have a balance with. They think I should just do what I'm told to do and I've never been that girl. I arranged for the scan to be done at Tower in Brandon because they have done my prior x-rays ad an MRI and a couple of mammograms. I'll just breathe and pray that this is all worked out by Friday so that Tower knows it's okay. I never got the Beta blockers because my heart rate was at 51 and you don't need beta blockers unless your heart rate is over 100. She said they would check it again Monday morning and if my heart rate is up, they'll give me the beta blockers and I can take them and go have Breakfast and then come back. This is how my pre-op testing has gone. It's never what they say it's going to be.
