  1. Good one this is my new favorite thing!
  2. I understand what you are saying but it is easy to say what you will and wont do until you are in the situation. Hopefully every goes exactly as you planned and you have perfect journey. However for some that is not the case. The surgery is not a quick fix or a magic pill so why is it expected that people wont stumble especially since many were not successful at previous attempts at weight loss.

    Hair lost anybody out there?

Thanks for the information but to clarify I didn't say it came from the Atkins Diet. She compared some peoples diet after surgery to Atkins. I personally chose not to change to a high Protein low carb diet. I wasn't eating 80-100 gms of protein before I don't feel I need it now. I asked because I see so many people saying they get in the the required protein but still have hair loss so I was wondering about those that don't get in the high levels of protein. http://www.livestrong.com/article/293059-high-protein-diets-and-hair-loss/#page=1

    Hair lost anybody out there?

I am almost 3 months out and have not noticed a difference in hair loss (yet). For those that are experiencing hair loss how much protein and carbs are you getting per day? I ask because a friend of mine (non WLS) feels that our high protein low carb diet is the reason for hair loss. She said it is also a side effect of being on the Atkins Diet long term. Any thoughts?

    African American Sleevers

I was actually responding to Galaxy Girl's post. 800 is fine with minimal exercise and is about what I take in but is very low for someone working out as much as she does.

    African American Sleevers

Is it possible that you are not taking in enough calories? 800 seems really low and could be the reason why you are not losing. I don't weigh so stalls and small fluctuations won't/don't bother me.
  7. I didn't have a pre op diet so I can't relate to that but I will say the doctor is right it should be much easier after having more than half your stomach cut out. The biggest thing for me is learning to approach food without guilt and shame. You are giving it an honest effort and thats what counts. Do not set yourself up for failure by seeing this as another diet. This is for the rest of your life and will come with hills and valleys. Good luck!

    Carb-Eatin Sleevers

It may be off topic but has anyone noticed a difference in hair loss? A friend of mine (non WLS) suggested that hair loss in WLS patients may come from a high protein low carb diet. She said that people on the Atkins diet long term also experience hair loss. I am 11 weeks out and never restricted carbs and only drank protein shakes up to 2 weeks out and my hair is growing and is thicker. How about everyone else?
  9. I agree with everyone above. Finish your degree. You are still young and the degree will increase your earning capacity. Suze Orman gives good advice regarding children's college funds. Your children will be fine with all the options available to finance college. However there are very little options for you in retirement so that should be your main concern. The degree will help support you later and also benefit your children.
  10. If you don't mind me asking how far out are you? And are you losing hair? I ask because a non WLS friend of mine believes we lose hair because of the large amount of protein/low carbs many consume after surgery. She said the same happens with people who stay on the Atkins diet for long periods.
  11. Unfortunately every doctor gives different instructions and there is so many reasons behind them. I started using straws early out and my doctor was ok. He said that straws can make some people feel uncomfortable but if I was feeling ok to go with. He wasn't concerned with the sleeve being stretched. Hopefully there will be some actual research soon so that WLS patients can avoid some undo stress.
  12. Dont apologize you aren't being negative you are giving your experience and people should hear all sides. Thanks for sharing and hopefully things will get better soon.
  13. I was told that the body can't absorb it all at once. So I have to take 3 throughout the day and I forget to take the evening dose as well

    The Dreaded Catheter!

See convenient and life saving I knew I liked them was it as bad as you thought?
  16. Well everyone is different so there is no way for you to know how the surgery will affect you. For me 1. I do not feel hungry or think about food. I have to remember to eat this might change as time goes on. I'm about 2 and a half months out. 2. I am able to eat anything I want so I have to make really good choices 3. Yes and no, my favorite foods are still my favorite but some I just no longer crave or can imagine eating at least for right now. Mentally I still love turkey burgers but I can't imagine biting one and there are a few others. Weird but doesn't cause me any stress. 4. When eating out I just look for the best possible choice or share with my husband. At family functions I do the same nothing has really changed except now I am more aware of what I'm putting in my mouth and can only eat a very small amount.

    The Dreaded Catheter!

I had one with both my natural births but not with the sleeve and how I wish I had. I hated having to get up every few minutes to go to the bathroom even though I was even drinking anything (darn IV) from my experience they aren't that bad but I was concerned the first time so I understand how you feel. Ask your surgeon why he uses it might help if you know the reason. I wish I would have thought to ask for one Good luck with your surgery.

    "Diet" foods vs. real foods

I choose not to eat diet or fat free foods. I'm uncomfortable with the ingredients so if I want something I have it but in a much smaller portion. I use real sugar instead of artificial sweetners. I have to confess I don't know how it affects my weight loss because I don't weigh but I guess I will see how things go at my dr appt next week.

    I was too lol
  23. I kinda feel after talking to the bariatric team. I was asked what birth control I would be using after surgery. I said my husband was planning to take care of it before my surgery. The lady said ok but if its not done by your four week check up we will have to put in an IUD. I left with the vision of being strap to a table. After all of the questioning no one ever asked about it again.
  24. During my research for surgery I was given the impression as well that it is common for relationships to end following surgery. Although I read the same thing about parents with multiples after having twins so I took it with a grain of salt. However I didn't care if it's one or many I wasn't taking a chance so I sat down with my husband and we talked about both our fears going into this.
  25. I try to stay away from sugar for the calories because it doesn't cause dumping which can be just as hard when you can eat everything. However only twice I had rapid heart beat from Peanut Butter.
