  1. Younare a busy busy mom! I too have kids at home and work so i understand. I am also a new g-ma and watch him a couple days a week. Sometimes i dont get to the gym till 11pm. I have always put others before me but when i started this journey i decided it was time for me to be a little selfish. So now i prioritize me time at the top of my list. I have a huge support staff too which has helped tremendously. Good luck to you and hope it will help.

  2. Look at your diet and see what you are eating. I understand you are getting in your Protein but how much fat and sugar are you eating. Just a suggestion. Also you really should be working out up to 5 days a week. Need to burn the calories! I just came off a 3 week stall and i am 9 months post today. You really need to change up your eating and exercise routine every 6 wks or so your body doesnt adjust. Try working out 3 to 4 days and really push the cardio and strength. I was taught to do a warm up and then hit the strength before cardio. I do heavy strength every other day. The opposite days i concentrate on cardio and little strength. I work out 5 days a week and about 1 hr and 45 min a workout. It is important to losing weight!

  3. I am so sry! That was for Auntjanny. But so happy for you too. Cant wait to have all this excess removed. Its such a pain. I have currently lost 129lbs and just about 9 months post. I have been in a stall for the last couple weeks but partly my fault. Havent l been eating the best. Need to get my head back on str8 and get my butt in gear. In the gym everyday though just not eating the best. Good luck to you and the rest of you journey. So exciting!

  4. Hello Michiganchic. Its almost time! I wish u luck on the preop. I had a high Protein diet that they gave me. I lost 23lbs on my 2 wk pre. When i got sleeved i too decided to make this year all about me. I set lots of little goals and rewarded myself. I set some big goals too and when i hit those i did something fun and special with my kids. They have been my rock amd my support so they get to enjoy to spoils too. I have been doing all this year for me. Being selfish and believe me, i am not normally a selfish person but its been real nice. I was sleeved 12/18/13 so it was a great present and a great year thus far. Been a great life changing journey. Just the beginning. We r all here for you. Good luck to you. Be slefish, this year to come is all for you and all about you!!

  5. I was told about that too. One of the nurses at my clinic told me about it. I was doing crossfit but it was so hard on my body with my injury. I have to compensate and was just killing me. I like the workouts tho. Congrats on the running btw. Feels good doesnt it...to know u can again if u ever could before. I hate it...lol...but do it to get in my mile times. Keep up the great work!!

  6. Broke my old mile time tonite. I actually had to slow down a little so i wouldnt beat it by too much. Never had to do that before...lol. Anyways my new mile time is 13:40. When i started this journey almost 9 months ago i was lucky if i could even walk half a mile. When i could finally my best time was around 30 min so ive come a long way especially for a person who absolutely hates to run.

  7. Wow...feel for ya. I was lucky. I was already seeing a therapist and she was the one who suggested i look into the surgery. It just so happens that she is also the therapist for the docs office i went too so my psych eval was quick and painless. I sure wOuld speak to ypur doctor. If u passed the eval then they should schedule u. You can keep working on stuff if u feel u need too but it shouldnt hinder ur surgery.

  8. Carbonation id way frowned upon after surgery. It creates gas and bloating. With tye tiny tummy theres no room for carbonation. I do now have a sip every now and then but it does upset my stomach if i have too much. Also pop just is bad for u all tye way around. The diet is even worse cuz of all the fake sugars. They are real bad for u. I dont sugar anything anymore. If i need to sweeten anything i use stevia in the raw. Its one of tye best all naturals on the market right now. Want to stay away from aspertame.

Defintiely changing habits is a neccesity. I started quitting stuff the day after i went to my orientation. Had a mourning period for my stuff then gave it up. Pasta was my huge weakness. Havent had pasta since before surgery and dont really care for it anymore. If i have to have any i use egg noodles. All i can really tolerate. It is the best decision to start eating right now! Many people think that the sleeve will fix ur cravings. Sorry to say but it doesnt. Its just a tool to help u. U still need to do alot of work. I have never worked so hard at anything in my life!

Btw i do know where oakland county is. I drive for a living and go over by detroit and outlying areas at least once a week. Good luck and will happily help when i can.

  9. Hello mythreeloves, welcome to the group and congrats on your decision! I did not have bcbs sorry and i didnt have to do 6 month pre diet. I started at a 52 or 53 BMI and I too have severe osteoarthritis due to an accident back on '93. I used to use it as an excuse and thats how i got so big. Now i fight thru it and do all i can. I have other issues with my leg too so its hard for ke to run but i do jog til i cant anymore. This was the best decision i ever couldve made. I wish i had done it years ago. Just stay the course. Its rather easy at first to follow the rules early on but u need to keep yourself in check so u dont slide backwards. We are all here for you. I was excited until the day and then i was just calm. I thought i was gonna freak out but i took it in stride. Just remember why your doing it and it will help u keep focused. Any questions please feel free to ask. We are all here for you. Btw my me is Kim. Im 45 with 4 kids and a grandson. I started at 356 and 8 1/2 months later i am down 129lbs and loving life. Oh! Exercise, exercise, exercise!! Cnjt stress that enough! Where are you from cuz not familiar with Beaumont RO

  10. Well welcome to our group. I guage myself on how i feel as well. At this point i still look at the weight but i have gone from a 4x to a LG in just 81/2 months so i cant complain. I took out my old clotyes a couple days ago and was just astounded at what i wore!! I could almost fit 2 of me in those clothes. My daught and i fit in them...lol. It can be a huge struggle to maintain and thats why u have all of us good peeps. We will keep u honest and on the right path. U worked so hard to get where u r at. Just remember that. Hope to hear more from u in future postings!

  11. And for a bit of an update. Today was my weigh in day. I am down to 227 and thats a loss of 129lbs in about 8 1/2 montys. Weight has been slowing a bit so time to change up some stuff. I also started back on birth control since my divorce was final last month. Not that im planning anything but u never know..lol. Looking good these days (wink wink). I have also slipped a little. Had a massive baking day lasy weekend and then all the kids came over. I cheated!! Still lost 3lbs but couldve been more. Just been feelin a little down the last couple of weeks and missed support group so that didnt help. Only 47lbs til my personal goal weight and can look at having some skin removal. Excited about that. Looking like im gonna have to pay for some of it. Getting alot of excess skin and wont tighten up at my age. But just wanted to check in. Hows everybody else been doing?! We need to all get together at some point. Maybe find a halfway spot and meet for lunch one day. Talk to me ladies. Wanna hear from u all! Enjoy your weekends and stay healthy

  12. Hello JZ!! Welcome to the group of sleevers! Where did u get ur surgery done if i may ask. I would be more than happy to help in any way i can! I have a membership at planet fitness. If you dont have anything anywhere yet consider going there. They have alot of great equipment and would be happy to work out with u if u need a buddy. I also go to bariatric group meetings. If you dont have any group you're planning on going to, come to ours. I was sleeved by Dr Foote in GH and it was the best choice. They have great support staff. I did lots of research and homework and for me it was tue best choice. Plz feel free to msg me or look me up on FB (kimba6988) i believe or reply here. Cant wait to hear from you!

  13. @ i had my surgery done by Dr Foote in Grand Haven on the lake shore of lake michigan. He actually practices out of grand rapids but comes to GH. He is a leading Dr in the sleeves surgery and has done some ground breaking surgery with the sleeve. Hes an awesome doctor with an absolutely awesome supoort staff to back him up. I feel i made tue best decisiom by going to him. I live in muskegon but chose dr foote over the resident bariatric surgeon in muskegon. Best choice i have ever made. I can call tue office or email any of the staff and actually have cell numbers of tye staff to call them day or nite with pressing questions. They also have an awesome bariatric group that meets twice a month.

  14. Hi I am feeling okay. I stayed in the hospital till Sunday as well. I got my surgery done about 6 pm on the 22. I left the hospital at 8 am Sunday. Then back to work on Tuesday. I was thankful for Labor Day weekend.

It is very hard getting calories in...can't eat much. And not getting enough Water.

I gained weight after the surgery + 5 the day I came home. I lost that plus 13.

Good to talk to someone who was sleeved the same day!!!

Just stick to high Protein liquids and sip Water all day long. Many people find it uatd at first but it will happen. Goong back to work so soon though has to be rough. Need that time to heal and concentrate on getting in ur Protein and water. Make sure ur walking every hour too. It will aid big time in the healing process. Good luck to you. I am 8 months post op and rockin it out. Down 127 so u have some greatness to look forward to.

  15. Wondering if anyone else has been in my situation. I started my journey with a BMI of around 55. I've really bought into the plan my doctor gives us and have so far lowered my BMI to 51.99. My insurance has an exception to their 6 month medically supervised diet/waiting period for those with a BMI of 50 or over. I have one more appointment before we submit to insurance - in about 2.5 weeks. We will schedule my date then. Last month I lost 9lbs. If I were to lose another 11.6lbs, I would be under the 50 BMI. I've been so worried about losing too much and having to wait those extra months! I don't want to go off of plan and negate all of the hard work and effort I've put into getting myself ready for this surgery.

Not only would it be emotionally hard to wait, my out of pocket has been met for this year, so if I can do this before the end of the year, I won't have to pay anything.

Has anyone else been in this situation? Any suggestions?

I started my journey at a BMI of 53. I went to orientation and that day they took all my info to submit for approval. I woukd talk to your doctor about the weight loss and if going below the 50 will affect getting ur surgery right away. I didnt have to wait either. Why is your doctor holding off on applying for so long? If your BMI is so high you would think theyd want to help you as soon as possible. I applied the first week of Oct and had surgery Dec 18th. I have lost 127 to date. Its only been a little more than 8 months. Best option is to ask your doctor what his suggestion would be but dont go sabotaging yourself to stay. If anything just maintain where u are. Good luck and let me know how your doing.

  16. I finally bought my first Victoria's Secret bra! I've been trying not to buy much in the way of new clothes, but today I bought a smaller bra, and some smaller pants and blouses for work! I'm down 33.2 lbs so far (I'm 5 weeks post op today) and things were starting to get big enough that they looked funny! I'm so happy with how everything is going!!!!!!! Here's me back in April vs. now.

I too shopped there about 3 months post. I have always wanted to shop there and boy did i! It felt weird but so cool. The staff was awesome in helping me. Expensive but the best and most comfortable bras i have ever had and i went to underwire which i had never worn before! I also now wear colors! I always did either black or white. Now i do blues and pinks and lace and such. Its wonderful.
