    Sleeved tomorrow June 3rd

Hey, congratulations. You will be just fine. Please be sure to come back and tell us how it went. The details help others.

    Please help....

@@Kindle, would you mind explaining a bit more? So, we should get like 10 gram whey Protein drinks at a time? Then sip on them for like an hour at a time? or should we sip 3 grams of protein every 20 mins or so? I will get the sleeve in August hopefully. I am starting to try to figure out the pre and post op diet. That is very interesting how all these high protein scoops are just a waste of money! Who knew! Those dirty rotten scoundrals! It was marketing!
  3. Hey congratulations. Did you set a definite date and send in your deposit? I am looking for the first week of August. I don't know why I put this topic. I guess I just wanted to put a list so people know what the 'usual' tests are.
  4. Someone just said on another thread that she went to Angeles for a leak test and liked it a lot. She said she would have paid more to have hers done there had she known how nice it was.

    Im an emotional wreck. Help!

Just weigh yourself once a day if you can't do once a week. I always weigh myself in the mornings, and I give myself 3 lbs in either direction before I think I have gained weight. You know that a gallon of Water weighs like 8 lbs? Sometimes we retain water and sometimes we don't. I agree with the person who said live your life now. Try to live in the moment - you are doing what you should be doing now. Leave next year for next year.

My surgery with Dr. Illan in Mexico

Thank you for these updates. Dr. Illan is one of the surgeons I am considering. I wish I could find a video of him doing surgery online but haven't so far. @JJinOregon do you know how many surgeries a day Dr. Illan does, by any chance? Which hospital were you in..Mi?
  7. Ok, thank you @@Bufflehead << what a name lol. I will get the sample pack. I hope it would last me long enough to order the larger size of the flavor I like post surgery. I did hear that taste changes so that is a really good idea to wait.
  8. Hello good people, Ok, first I want to make sure my question is not taken the wrong way. I fully understand that the pre-op diet is both to shrink the liver and also to see if we can commit to the post op diet. I am not going to second guess my doctor and I will follow his/her recommendations. However, that doesn't mean I can't present another possibility to my doctor and see if they approve it if I find their diet is very stringent, right?. They can say yes, or they can say no. I will do what they tell me to do. So, what it the easiest diet one can follow to get the results of the liver shrinking. What exactly is the goal? It is supposed to use up stored glycogen, right? But also to deplete fatty deposits? So it needs to be low carb, low fat? Is it possible to get the proper results following like an atkins diet for a month rather than a liquid diet for 2 weeks?
  9. @@lylabelle Wow so you are kinda PUI (posting under the influence)...and making sense! I thought the pre-op was also to reduce fat deposits, no? If not, that makes it even easier. I am diabetic so I am already used to low carb.
  10. Please, someone bully me. I want to verbally kick your ass. Alternatively, I might kill you with kindness - totally depends on my mood. . (For the record, I don't start stuff...) Love that quote @@CrazyJaney "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." !
  11. I am so glad for this thread.i also will be getting surgery soon and this thread really helps. Now, I know I need to get moving to order/find the above stuff and to fix the bed at an angle. Thank you! Is unjury much better than just any Protein powder at walmart? Does the unflavored taste really have no flavor?
  12. Hi @@lylabelle - What was the difference between you and that guy that did 2 weeks? I love chicken wings. They weren't considered too fatty? Congratulations on getting your sleeve! How are you feeling?

    Post-Op Soothing Smoothie Ideas

Hi, I just want to suggest unsweetened almond milk as a base. It tastes great, has good Protein, and is much lower in calories and carbs than skim milk. If you put in Hershey's sugar free chocolate syrup and splenda, it tastes JUST LIKE regular chocolate milk! Great for diabetics and others who want a low cal sweet treat.
  14. This is the first place I can be really open on. I can be a fat person trying to change and there is no judgement. Thank you.
  15. I love the title. You are my inspiration for all future titles lol. When I crave sweets, I force myself to start thinking about fruit, and about 5 or 10 mins later I am craving fruit instead of chocolate. I had to learn to do this since i am diabetic. It works for me though. I remember reading "A carbohydrate addicts diet" years back. It made a lot of sense. You might want to get it and read it. I am not completely endorsing it since it has been awhile since I read it but might be worth a shot. Also here is a recipe: Unsweetened Almond milk, Hersheys chocolate sugar free syrup, splenda. It tastes JUST LIKE regular chocolate milk with like 2 carbs and 30 calories for a big glass.
  16. Hi @@MichiganChic - thank you for your input, and congratulations on your tremendous success at weight loss. @zmdh38 Everyone is (and should be) concerned with infection obviously. However, as a diabetic I have been told I should be extra cautious with wounds and infections. Now the next question are........Assuming that covering the nose IS necessary as a standard operating protocol in the USA.....why are so many of the Mexican docs not covering their noses when they are touting USA medical standards? Or, are we just being biased assuming that USA surgeons cover both? IS this a quality of care gap between the two? Pretty much all of the 4,500 price range surgeons have themselves and/OR a few people in the room with noses uncovered. Is there a difference between these doctors and higher priced Mexican doctors? If there is, what does this mean? Why are these other doctors higher priced? Reputation? Qualifications? I know I am asking tough questions but I think most of us have asked ourselves these same questions. I realize people have favorite doctors on here that they don't want to see touched by any hint possible criticism. People feel so grateful to their doctors for giving them a new life, and I completely understand that. However, if we are going to go to Mexico, all doctors should be able to withstand close scrutiny and tough questions, right? I am certainly not trying to put any one off of weight loss surgery, and I reiterate - I am probably 99 percent going to Mexico - I don't have much choice. However, I want to KNOW as much as I can.
  17. I doubt there is a rule that mandates MUST be worn every single time in every single instance. I guess the more relevant question is - if someone gets an infection and the surgeon was not covering their nose - how would a mal practice lawsuit view that? How would insurance view that doctor? How would other peer surgeons view it? I have yet to hear from a single professional who thinks it is ok to not cover the nose. My best friend asked a surgeon friend of hers and he said MAYBE it would be ok if they were not sneezing and stuff (as in maybe the patient would not get an infection in that particular surgery) but was bewildered at why anyone would take that chance. My primary care doctor said run. At least 3 nurses on here have said, "no way" and now there is a surgeon on here saying the same thing. If we have sneeze guards over our salad bars, why would we not want them over our open wounds? Like you, though, I would like to know how this actually works in the usa regarding the setting of protocols etc. You ask very astute questions.
  18. Thank you @@Mowgli19 - I will add that when I add more surgeons. Right now I am mostly looking in the 4500 range altho I put Dr. Pompa in there. @@CandyPants81 @ - Yes, a lot of people have had good experiences with Dr. Q. He is one I am considering. I have kind of narrowed my choices to Dr. Garcia, Dr. Illan, and Dr. Quionones.
  19. @@Tiff - Do you have a video of Dr. Illan doing surgery? I would like to add it to the collection. I am considering him along with 1 or 2 others but I can't find any video. That deters me. Also, I am adding the florence part to the chart. Thank you.

    Got some good news today

I am really, really so happy for you. Go for your dreams!
  21. Ya good idea candy. I might just say 'mexican surgeons' rather than single him or any of them out. I can put that in terms of a general fear like you suggest. It still leaves the bigger question of overall sterile procedures.
  22. @@Kindle Hmm good point. I need to rethink again and again. @@cbcatlover - yes, I agree that I don't think it is telling a surgeon how to do their job especially if it is phrased right. I will check out that forum too.
  23. Unfortunately @@lifeislikeaboxofchocolates - timing is important here. In the next month or two, I have time to get this surgery -after that - not so much. That means I fall within this price range. I have changed my mind from my first 2 original considerations and am leaning toward another doctor. I will ask about the staples being titanium - do they cost 2k in Mexico or is that USA prices? I am going to ask the doctor or coordinator all of the questions you have posited. If you can think of any more, please post them. @@Mencinas - sorry I thought I had replied to your post. I didn't see the cell phone - which video was that? @@Dr-Patient - sorry, I thought I had replied to your post. Do you think it would be enough if the surgeon agrees that everyone has a mask over mouth and nose or would this be too much a major indicator of other sloppy practices as lifeboxchoco says (and I wondered about before)? It seems most of the Mexican doctors in my price range were either not themselves covering their nose AND/OR some of the staff. Even the one in the 6,500 range in the center of excellence had 2 people in the distance noses not covered (well one was the anesthesiologist but he was behind the tv screen). It is a dilemma because I need this surgery (diabetic) and this is the time frame and price range I can do. Most people seem to come back ok. Do I take the plunge and do what I can? Or do I not get the surgery maybe for a few years (or maybe never) while diabetes continues? I am not insulin dependent (yet) and the prognosis is good for remission. @@Kindle - It does sound like a lot doesn't it? I know supplies in Mexico are cheaper than the USA. That is why people go over the border to get medicine - from Mexico and Canada.
  24. Is it really unbearable or is it something that pain killers can keep under control?
