  1. Don't! It's 100% worth everything. If you need a buddy, support person let me know!

I started this time last year 348 so I'm not the 350 being shy by 2 lbs. I am also not yet to goal but simply so thrilled with the results it often seems surreal at times. I'm now shopping for clothes without having to try them on! I also can shop in the regular section as I'm working out of the plus area. My fav shirt before surgery has now me one a soft comfy gown that hangs to my knees!!

Patience! And stay steady on your path.

    Hugs of support

  2. After meeting with the nut my slow down is most likely caused by the medical issues I've been dealing with for the past few months. I was on strong antibiotics and meds. Now that I'm back on track I'm not eating enough calories. Here is a picture of my progress start top left progress across then second row left to right. Bottom right is most recent post-215862-14357695279372_thumb.jpg

  3. I've been off the boards a bit simply because I'm so busy. Surgery was 11-4-2014. Highest weight 348..surgery date 312--and today 245....... And now I've hit a brick wall. I have been stalled out here for months. I need to add I've had some issues... In Jan I was bitten by a dog and spent 4 days in the hospital with a bone infection after surgery, the. The bone didn't set so I was back in surgery 2-20... Shortly after I developed siatica and was unable to walk at all and only went to dr office and bed :( I was very depressed and unable to do anything, I recovered from siatica after about 3-4 weeks treatment. The arm however isn't yet healed. My concern is that I feel I've been lingering at this weight literally for months now. And it's depressing. Once I got back to walking I average a few miles up to 5 miles per day. I then found I have an abnormal curve to my neck which causes my arm to feel "asleep" most of the time. This has all played a huge part in my exercise plan. I took on a second job which included great physical demands. Today alone between 2-8 I got in my 10000 steps plus even more. I built myself up and took part in a 5k walk for obesity. My eating is minimal. I start with one cup of coffee in the am and then no more. I typically had about 2-3 oz of chicken or tuna salad about 9am. Then at 12 I might have yogurt or cheese. And the evenings I have a little less than 1/2 of a frozen meal such as Atkins or smart choice and focus in high Protein. If the meal has Pasta or bread I only have a small amount. I really don't do well with either so mostly I'm getting the protein and veggies.

I am seeking advise on how to break a stall?? I go back to my dr in August and had hoped to loose another 50lbs before then but not sure if that is possible.

Any advise?? Please I'm depressed that I'll be here forever and I certainly want to be a more healthy weight.

    Presurgery I wore 28--today I'm more 16-18 pants

    Thanks in advance!!

I am not getting in 1000 calories per day. I also fight to get in my water!

  4. I was for sure blessed by an angel watching over me for I had zero pain right out of surger, I got up and walked the halls.. Day 2 still no pain and walked 1/2mile in hospital. Day 3 again no pain and feeling great I walked a mile in the hospital before being discharged. Still I haven't had pain.... My surgery was 11-4-2014. I have had a battle with nausea but no pain. A few points of discomfort that were solved with walking.

Wishing you a peaceful and painfree journey!

  5. I personally haven't tried any carbonated drinks. My cousin however, is 3-4 years out and she advised me that she has tried beer a few times and it always always made her sick so she doesn't try it and selects something different. I certainly wouldn't try it so new out of surgery. I'm not even a year out and still battle with different foods so I can't personally see wanting to try beer for sometime if ever. I would talk to your dr and nut. We all have our own battles to choose.

    Wishing you the best!

  6. I'm coming up on 7 months postop. I personally have had no issues with milk or yogurt. Greek yogurt is a staple for me. I hope you have positive results with your choices.

I always selected Greek yogurt and skim milk.

I even do soy or almond milk at times.

    Hugs of support

  7. As you might find if you haven't already that taste might change.... That being said open yourself up to experiment! I have personally tried just about every brand/flavor of Greek yogurts that can be found in my area! :) I've I've expanded my shopping area simply because some stores have a different variety or brands. What you may not have enjoyed in the past might be super yummy now.

I didn't enjoy Greek yogurt preop and now it's the only thing for me.

Ps the triple zero is amazing! As well as Fage!

  8. Dan I can sympathize with you as I had a few of those nights myself. It is a scary thing to wake up to I assure you of this.... Watch how much time passes between your last food liquid consumption prior to laying down. Try to allow 2 hours for the tummy to empty before you lay down. Another thing I found is that I added aloe juice. It can be found at Walmart pharmacy or you can also find it in a supplemental pill form. Aloe has healing properties and to me seemed to help calm things down.

Hugs of support on your journey.

  9. Directly post op the ability to consume liquid quickly simply isn't there... I'm 6months now and Water has been one of the hardest things for me to consume. I could handle Protein drinks, watered down juices, g2, and a variety of other liquids and found each time I attempted plain Water I would have a wave of uncomfortable nausea :( I learned to mix juice with water and then finally this month I have been able to sip just regular h2o! As we are all different your ability to get in liquid will grow as your tummy heals.. Put yourself on a sip schedule :). I learned directly post op my sleeve would welcome slightly warmed tea and it seemed to relax a bit. However the cold would cause spasms and discomfort. Slow and steady. Even now I find I have yet to find the happy middle where I have good liquid and food consumption within the same day. Somedays I do well sipping and have poor food consumption and other days I eat well and have low liquid consumption. I'm still working to find the happy middle ground.

All good things come in time... Slow and steady will win :) happy sip sip sipping

  10. K-Lynn...everyone will offer you different bits of advise. I am 6 months out now and for me personally, I simply can not tolerate bread. I can do a few mini crackers from time to time. However, I don't go overboard. If I want "pizza" there is a recipe to use cauliflower chopped to make the crust. Listen to what your dr/nut advises and listen to your own body. Anytime you venture into new food phases take it slow... Keep in mind the signal from the tummy is slow to reach our minds. I am only offering you my own personal experiance. My dr/nut will allow bread and other things that some dr/nut advise to stay away from....yet they always advise to make good choices. With the sleeve we have to reprogram our way of eating and go with out needs first over our wants....

Hugs of support in your adventure

  11. The experience will be different for everyone. Although I do not have children, I do have a nephew that visits often and keeps me on my toes and was only 3 1/2 at my point of surgery.

That being said, I was sleeved Tuesday, 11-4-14 and was in the hospital until Thursday, 11-6. I walked daily up and down the halls at the hospital and was blessed to have no physical pain. I did experience nausea. I was discharged with instructions not to lift more than 6lbs. The only thing I could do was walk, no going to the gym, ECt. I was back driving by Friday 11-7 and returned to work 11-10.

When the nephew came to visit picking I found my sister had already been working with the pick it up put it up song for clean up. I added a coin allowance for his big boy bank for every chore he did to help. He would have everything picked up and in it's place and ask what's next.

If your pre op then, Start making a game out of things the child/children can do to help with daily tasks.

Just about anything can be turned into a game that incorporates learning and problem solving. So not only does it take a bit physical off you, it also becomes family time as well.

I would simply explain in general terms that I was unable to help with certain things because my tummy was hurt. However, I always put a spin on things. And we would pick up the blue toys, red toys .. The toy nearest to me or farthest from me. The largest or smallest toy..he would laugh and say what's next.

  12. How long it takes shouldn't be your focus at only a week out. I'm 6months out tomorrow and can offer you only what I experianced....6 days out was tough it was a slow constant battle to get in the required amount my nut/dr wanted. I failed for days, weeks, months. However, each and every day I tried and tried. I remember starting a Protein drink in the morning while getting ready for work..I am at work by 615-630 am and sometimes it would take me until 8-9am to finish. Keep in mind the sleeve is healing. So take your time and sip sip sip until you can get the amount in daily. Walking helps keep things moving. And with time it will become easier and easier to get I. liquids. My dr/nut provided multi layer phases post op. Clear Liquids to full liquids to purée.. I was 12wks before I could have any type of raw veggies. With each new day/phase came new challenges. The main focus is do what you can do, stay in track, stay positive and things really do get better. Just keep it slow ......

    Hugs of support.

  13. Glitter Eyes Nailed it...tomorrow is my 6month point and sadly I have had the same issue. I am careful with the choices I make on what I eat and when. I have had issues as well that relate to something simply not agreeing with the sleeve. Keep a watch on when you eat in what would be your "evening time" if your a night shifter then "early" am... Or simply time you eat before the time you laydown to sleep/rest. I have also incorporated aloe Vera juice. I heard it has healing properties internally. I feel better inside once I started to take it.. It can be found in the pharmacy area at any local Walmart as juice or can be found in pill form as well.

Hugs of support your not alone!

  14. Post op with my surgery being 11-4-14 I can advise yes I am always freeZing. It's April and I constantly wear my long sleeve sweaters to work because I know everyone else will be asking to crank up the as while I'm reaching for my jacket. In all reality I'm getting 100lbs down from this time last year so I figure by fall of 2015 and winter I'll be bundled up 24/7. :)

  15. My surgery was 11-4-14 and I noticed my shoes a seemed a bit bigger and figured it was me wearing thin socks until I went shoe shopping 2weeks ago and found a really cute pair of bright pink Nike... So I figured I would give them a try only to discover they fit perfect. Then as I looked further I noticed I was I. The children's section a me the fun cute shoes were a child 6.5youth. LoL!

It was great! I never could find comfortable nikes because of my fat little foot however this is no longer the issue......I bought 3 pair that day. And loved it... Not only because the foot is smaller however the children shoes are about $30 cheaper. :) buying 3 pair was almost like getting a free pair of shoes. I can also wear kids socks as well. It makes shopping so much fun post op :) enjoy.

  16. I wish I or anyone else could provide you with the perfect answer. I'm 22 soon to be 23 wks post op. I can say it does get better. However I have noticed it is a difficult dance and one I have yet to manage well. I can't eat large amounts of food so that's limitation 1, next there are things my sleeve simply will not tolerate well. Then the waiting 45min to an hour after eating.....I'm doing better than I was early on yet still find it challenging specifically when I am at work! Some days I feel as if I am eating all day long and know I don't get In my liquids. The. There are days it seems I drink all day long and don't get enough calories in. Personally I had a major set back in Jan this year which took a great toll on my body. I'm much better now and yet still dealing with a stall. Mainly because I'm still not getting in the calories and liquid needed. So my body thinks I'm in starvation mode..... It will get better. Use a timer/clock/ and alarms to help you pace eating more often during a days time and as a helpful tool for liquids

    Tons of support for you!

  17. Find yourself an unflavored Protein powered to add to things whenever possible. Learn to alter thing you enjoy. Greek yogurt is a good source of Protein. Edamame can be count In a form much like humas, or regular humas will give you an alternate source. Blackeyed peas oddly enough seem to have a good amount of protein. Non meat eater? Not trying to pry however does this include fish? I am 22wks going on 23 wks post op. Although I personally have no religious or personal restriction for no meat, chicken, or anything for that matter. I have found that mean seems to be an issue for my sleeve. Fish is my main source of protein along with cheese and protein based drinks. I also learned that post op the palet does change and things that once were so wonderfully tasty now are yucky! eggs are another thing that my sleeve is a bit picky about or maybe I should say egg as I can only handle one. Scramled sometimes works sometimes makes me uncomfortable. Post op I find that I read more labels than ever! A simply trip to the grocery now has become a process filled with reading labels. Tofu comes in various forms now as well and can be a meat replacement. Start looking in the organic isle and reading. I know you said soft food stage however realize this is different for everyone. I have purée first and learned to blend the vegitarian burgers into something yummy :)

    Tons of support to you!

  18. My dr advised post op day one and moving forward to eat by portion size rather than to search for the "full" feeling. Most cases are if you eat until u feel full you've already eaten more than you should because there is a delay in the time the stomach is full and the mind gets the signal. Thus another reason slow slow eating giving your body time to send the signal. Early on I could only handle very very small amounts and as you heal you you will notice what full means for you. We are all different. I notice by hiccups or slight belch. Knowing that I could comfortably eat 1/4 cup and be ok with no reactions was much better than not measuring and eating 1/2 cup only to loose it because it was more than I can handle. I'm at 21wks post op and still haven't been able to master eating enough or getting enough fluids. I did have a major set back that started 1/24 that I am still in recovery. I physically had great pain and was on some tough antibiotics which made eating difficult. This set back was not at all in relation to my surgery.

Use a baby spoon to eat and measure measure measure. If you know at 1/4 or 1/3 cup you are satisfied. The. Stop and carry on with your day. However this will help to bring balance know how much your eating. Best of luck!
