I LOVE LOVE LOVE MY BAND:biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: ok just a few weeks ago i was a little unsure that this was going to work. seeing as how i have been at a standstill since the first month of surgery. i was a little disappointed that i didn't have the gastric bypass instead, but i had another 0.5cc fill last friday (for a total of 2cc) and it was what i needed!!! i feel control-it is like the cravings were reduced by 75% or more. i really don't care what i eat as long as i eat when i am truely hungry. i feel motivated. i feel awesome. (that awesomeness may be from working out every other day though) hey i even quit drinking with my meals--now that my band is working i figured i might as well work with it! i know i know, it should have been the other way around but hey what can i say, for a nurse i am pretty noncompliant! good luck to everyone who is struggling you will get there!!!!!! jen banded 4-4-06 263lbs today 238lbs and the scale is heading down.

    Unladylilke Gas (serious question)

afterglow, i had the same problem out of the blue preband but after i participated in a medical liquid diet. it was awful and painful. so i eliminated all foods and only ate 1 or 2 things at a time and watched for what caused the gas as i added things back into my diet. turns out it was sweet and low and other artificial sweetners. once i quit drinking them the gas was gone. now post band i do notice some but it is managable and not painful.
  6. jen here 263/257/248/150 had first fill today of 1 cc
  7. :cry okay this is probably going to be bawl babyish but i have to say i need someone to help wipe away my tears. :think (being melodramatic) anyway, my issue is as follows: i am on my 5th week out and i am able to eat anything, i lost 20 and gained 5, but that is not bothering me too bad. i truly do feel like my cravings/hunger has been turned off. (good thing i know) i also can tell when i am actually hungry or not. so what is my problem you say? even though i am not hungry, i find myself scouring the cabinets and heading to fast food places and trying to eat even when i am not hungry. DH thinks i just need a fill, but i don't. now that i don't have food to comfort myself as much, and i don't have work since i have been off for surgery ( i am a bit of a workaholic) i have come to realize i don't have any more friends. i also don't have a life. :eekB: all i do is eat and watch tv when i don't work. hell i even have my house cleaned!! so since now i am forced to evaluate my food, i am tuning into myself and i have found i pushed all my friends away about 2 years ago for some insane reason (still haven't figured that one out). i also have no hobbies or outside the house activities. :help: i think i just spent $11,000 to find out i am bored and lonely and it is a bit of a shocker! suggestions and comments welcome!
  8. Jack, thanks for my new mantra, i hope you don't mind if i steal it. i am printing it out and putting it on my mirror and fridge. i absolutely love this one. "You have used your brain to elequently define the problem....now use your spine to implement those actions necessary to achieve your goal."
  9. thank you all for your responses and encouragement, they make so much sense to me. i am trying to implement some of these ideas you all have given. even the personal stories help because i can identify with them and see the pattern in my own actions. i am really trying to remind myself to be a good friend to others and not be too picky about that friend. i am making a conscious effort to find other peoples positives and overlooking their negatives ( like this friend whines or complains too much, or wants me to help her all the time...) because i have been really bad about that here lately. i have also decided to take what i need from several friends. i am usually a one or two friend kind of person but i am going to try to have friends for the occasion. example: going out friends, work friends, working out friends, lunch friends, shopping friends... i think this will help me find things to with people all the time instead of waiting for that 1 friend to have time in her schedule leaving me at home with nothing to do. after i figure out the friend thing i will have to start working on becoming more self entertained and find the ability to have fun even though i am by myself. i am not a big poster on any board ( like with my friends i feel it takes alot of effort to maintain online relationships-as shameful as that is to admit) but it sure does feel good to put it out there. (it) representing feelings, thoughts, emotional baggage... the funny thing is i told my DH about my post and then i said in a melodramatic way of coarse " what if nobody responds? i already feel bad enough about myself, if i don't make friends online i am going to have you just shoot me." he :grouphug:. i am already enrolled in a pilates class that will start in june as long as doc clears me for it. so that is one step. i am considering going to one of the TOPS meetings too. i had a continue ed. class today and had lunch with a girl i barely know from the hospital, turns out we live in the same area and went to the same high school a year apart. we exchanged # and promised to get together soon. i am also going to try to use up some time by going to the gym. i know that it won't really kill me :pout: but boy am i dragging my feet on that. i feel like i am trying to head in the right direction, now all i have to do is get my feet to go right too!! i can't wait to find out what else is lurking in my head :eek
  10. here is a good site that really explains starvation diet/mode for anyone who is interested. http://www.netwellness.org/question.cfm/28515.htm
  11. Melanne Just a heads up here. I am 3 weeks out and i lost 7 lbs on the 10 day preop diet and then i lost 10 lbs the first week. went to the doc for follow up and he upgraded me to mushies and THE DAY OF MUSHIES i went up 2 lbs then proceeded to go up 3 more lbs within the week. (I am only eating apx 1200 cals/day) now my guess is i had lost alot of water weight as i was only eating 300-600 cals a day the first week, (starvation=glycogen depleation=water loss) and with the increased sodium intake on mushies some of that weight lose was water. imagine my dissapointment and reality check!! so if this happens to you, and i hope it doesn't!! i will tell you the same thing everyone i have complained to told me. It isn't going to happen overnight. although for some strange inexplicable reason i woke up from surgery and thought it would?? and i am still trying to convince myself to believe what i already know. (3 weeks doesn't = 30 lbs) yeah i got that with the 10 lbs loss the first week!

    Feeling the band

you know i really thought that i would feel something in the stomach area immediately post op, throbbing at least. but nope, all i felt was the port and the port incision. now at 10 days post op all i have is stinging in the port area, i truly feel normal except in the amount of food i can eat, when i do push the amount it feels like a back ache, but no ring around the stomach or anything. i am really surprised.

    April 2006 Bandits

hi all, hope everyone is well and post ops are going smoothly. i had my band place 4/3 and i am updating my condition. i feel great!!! and i am just 10 days post-op. :biggrin1: Last evening i was very bored so i went grocery shopping by myself at walmart for 1.5 hrs. (dangerously exepensive to shop at walmart that long) then today i went for a 30 min brisk walk. :guess the only pain i have is a bit of stinging in my port incision, and occasionaly i have some stinging in the port area. sleeping wise i am able to lay on both sides as long as i prop my arm with a pillow, and that makes me very very happy because i can't sleep well on my back. my hubby even said he saw me sleeping on my stomach last night. the absolute best news is the food. doc gave me an advance diet as tolerated order. i am still going with soft/pureed food for the next 3 weeks with moist meats included. for Breakfast i can eat 1 packet of instant oatmeal runny, then when my band is a little more open i am able to eat about 2-3 oz moist chicken with gravy, about 1/2 cup mashed potatoes and that makes up a meal. i can tell my band empties in about 3-4 hours and i am able to eat again. i am stuggling with true hunger and head hunger/cravings, because when i get busy and am not bored i don't even think about eating unless my stomach starts growling really loud. even then i can still ignore it. but boy when i have nothing to do food is all i think about. currently i am getting about 1200 cals a day. once i can have some more solid food i think that will drop because i will phase out the starchy potatoes ect. and start in on veggies. so meals will be meat and veggies. i am not even missing bready stuff. chocolate cakey stuff is another story. i hope my story helps soothe some anxiety, and i wish everyone success!!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: jen

    April 2006 Bandits

hey all, i am back (actually have been for a few days, just haven't had the energy to post.) surgery went well but i had a very hard time with the anesthesia, i just could not wake up and my oxygen level was pretty low. they went ahead and kept me for a few extra hours. the doc did say that he wished all of his procedures could be as easy as mine was. as for now i am suffering with nausea really bad, i just can't hardly seem to force myself to drink and eat. i have pheregan suppositories that i am using about once a day and they seem to help but boy when i wake up, it takes all i have to keep it together. on the up side i have managed to lose apx. a pd a day so i am down 14 pds since friday the 24th. when i started my preop diet. the other problem is this damn gas. i am pretty sure that is where the nausea is coming from. i will say that is does seem to get better everyday and i am looking forward to next week when hopefully the gas will be out.

okay everyone i am signing off. i am going to get ready to go to topeka for surgery. :cheer2: (surgery is mon at 8 am). i am wrought with nerves but they are the excited kind. i have survived the diet and have lost 5 pds and it seems like it has all came from the tummy area so hopefully my doc will be pleased. i will check in when we get home, probably tues or wens and let you all know how it went. wish me well!! i will talk to everyone soon. audra i am sorry to hear about your grandparents treating you that way. that is how my father is. he comes back every summer and stays with me and drives me and my brother (who can't do anything right either) totally insane. he is always going on about what to eat and how to save money and so many other things that if i started listing them this would turn in a dr. phil show. it kills me too, because we are doing pretty well, plus i am a fricking nurse, i lecture people all day about diet and exercise. trust me i know what makes me fat and what the "right" foods are, how much exercise the amercian heart assoc. recommends... emotional baggage: gotta love it!

Ceparano and Kellerjohn printing list now wow thanks those suggestions are great. i only have about a quarter of that stuff right now, although i am well known for my procrastination, and will probably be at walmart late the night before surgery. Ceparano, thanks for the prayers, i'm touched. i will do the same for you.

    I just realized...

maybe this will make everyone feel better i work in a hospital and i have had to take care of obese patients. what we do (if we don't use the air mattress that susan mentioned) is put a slide board under you and 2 people push and the other two pull and honestly it really isn't that bad. now what is really bad is people not cleaning out their belly buttons before surgery and the OR nurse has to Qtip dig and clean it out and believe me there are some funky things growing in there!! so my tip is don't worry about the heave hoein just make sure your button is clean.:glasses

I would love to post about how my surgery is going but I will not be home for 3 or 4 days after my surgery when i get home it will be the first thing i do. i know that immediate post op stories have been my favorites to read about. i am always encouraged by the ones who are posting their stories the same day as their surgery.

    Easy Way Out...

poodles tell him so what if it is ( although i don't believe that). wouldn't it be such a waste if it is the easy way and you don't take it, and not only that, but it is a more long term thing then the "hard way" which usually ends up being the "short term" way. then to top that off tell him you don't want him to take the elevators anymore, seeing how that is the easy way to the top, and we sure don't want anyone to have it "easy" do we? then kiss him and smile that special smile and tell him that he sure makes you laugh sometimes. trust me this works i just did it a few weeks ago. jen

    April 2006 Bandits

Audra and whoever else reads this, I should have less venting today. I am feeling alot better, the headache is slight and the energy level seems to have come up overnight. 2 protien shakes and cottage cheese or yogurt x 3 a day + unlimited broth, sugar free Jello, and sugar free drinks is what is on my diet list. I got lucky and got called off work today, but it just means i will be working sat. i am working 12 hour shifts everyday but tuesday this week, YUCK. with this liquid crap i am hoping i will survive. I can't believe it is finally here. Friday was my pre op appt. I had to pay for the procedure and i was so worked up about the surgery and not in an excited way. i asked my doc if he thought i was making the right choice, and of course he gives me the typical doc answer about it being my choice blah blah blah, but he did say that he really felt that surgery seems to be the best answer for most people right now. he also said there are a few meds on the horizen and that they were probably versions of what is already available and that this is about the only long term option right now. then i went to the surgery center and talk to one of the RNs there and she was raving about how people come in for surgery at 8 am and are usually out by noon because they are up and walking with in hour post recovery and are usually drinking Water sooner than that. that nurse really helped soothe some of my nerves. i still feel kind of guilty that i am doing this to my body, but i imagine it is just fear of surgery and once it is over i will be happy i did it. What time is your surgery and where are having it done at?
