  1. Hi all,

In a newbie and 6 days till surgery. I am having SIPS with Dr NG. I am really getting scared. Would very much like to talk to another SIPS patient. I have talked to DS and Rouen Y but unknown this is a bit different. Would like to hear tips to make it through, and really a bit of encouragement . I keep looking at all the weight loss YouTube's and the skin and hair loss is freaking me a bit. I am 215 and project to be 135. If you can message me with anyone willing to talk I would appreciate!!!

Hi i am almost 3 months post op with sips. Surgeon was Dr Roslin at lenox hill NY. Had a lapband removed during surgery which made my surgery a little longer. Surgery weight was 282 and today im 232. So 50 pounds lost. Surgery was tough but so so worth it.

Had a lot of gas pain and nauseou. Had some stomach pain but nothing too crazy. Was the best thing that ive ever done. Feel free to pm for more info or questions.

  2. Thaky you polkat50 for your encouraging words. Its been a long 3.5 days. Getting discharged now. Still haven't had any full liquids like shakes etc but im starting when I get home later. Its ironic how my clothes that I wore to surgery don't fit anymore. I can barely close any buttons on my shirt or pants. Im still very bloated and my stomach is huge. Never been so big. Whats your Protein goal for the next week or so? My dr wants minimum 60-80 grams.

  3. I had my sips surgery June 30. I had a considerable amount of nausea with 1 vomiting episode . I was discharged at 3:00 the next day when I proved I could drink the Protein shakes and Water. Really, the only discomfort I feel is the gas pain and walking does alleviate this. It's difficult to get I all the Protein. I really do not like the sugary taste of the shakes. I like the chicken broth the best. I had IV fluids until discharge and ended up 12lbs over my pre-surgery weight. Today I weighed my pre-surgery weight. I would like to hear from you stevodreo. I know you had same surgery date.

Hey so happy to hear how you are doing. Unfortunately I am still in the hospital till hopefully Friday morning.

My surgery included taking out my lapband wich made the surgery over 3 hours and very painful. The gas pain is horrible and the walking hasn't seemed to help. Dr said eventually the gas pains will go away, really looking forward to that day. Still on clear liquid diet and i hope that tomorrow i can start with shakes etc. I also have gained over 10 pounds from all the iv fluids. Im sure that within 2 days of getting of ivs the weight will come off. I did have a lot of nausea but they put some anti nausea patch behind my ear, and have been giving me Zofrin wich is anti nausea too. I haven't had any vomit episodes. .

  4. I am 49 years old and scheduled to have SIPS on June 30. I know many people who have had RNY with great success. I have chosen SIPS due to my need for NSAIDS and Prednisone for management of degenerative arthritis. I am excited and nervous as well. I am terrified that I will not wake up from my surgery. That being said I have confidence in my surgeon. These forums have been an invaluable tool in preparing for my surgery. Please keep posting!

understandable why you have the fear as I do as well. When I had the lapband done I had someone close with me that had had it done a year before. It was great having a coach and a friend that knew what I was going through and he kept me pretty calm. On the other hand with SIPS I dont know anyone that had it. I too was recommended the RNY , but after hearing about dumping syndrome and weight regain I was skeptical of having it. Who is your surgeon and where are you having it done?? Its great to have someone doing the same surgery and on the same day

  5. Thanks for responding!

So how bad have you found the malabsorption to decrease energy?

Also how large is the pouch left, like can you eat more than 4 z of food?

I've been considering the RNY bypass and I'm most concerned about the Dumping syndrome. Being that i'm a Type 1 Diabetic I'm nervous than when I have a low blood sugar and eat sugar to raise them ,that ill end up suffering then from dumping if that makes any sense.

  6. Im a type 1 diabetic that did the band a year ago. I initially did well with it. Went down from 320 to 250. Well for some reason it slipped. Been recommended the rny gastric bypass. Somehow it was mentioned to me this new SIPS / SADI procedure that Dr. Roslin does and looking to hear if anyone has any experience or will be doing it.

What I understand is that the weight loss is better than the bypass and doesn't have the unpleasant dumping syndrome.

  7. Hi everyone. My last fill was 6 weeks ago and brought me to 9.5 in a 14cc band. At the time of the last fill my Dr tried up to 9.75 but after seeing that Water wasn't going down ,he took out .25. Since then ive been losing around 4 lbs a week 23 pounds since last fill. Last week I noticed how I was starting to eat a lot more, way more than 4 oz. I would say closer to 10oz. Well this week has been different , because 2-3 hours after I eat Im hungry all over again and can eat as if I hadn't had a meal two hours before. Does it make sense that after losing 20-25 lbs, your band needs to be tightened to stay in the green zone???? I would really like to keep the weight loss going on a quick pace to help my type 1 diabetes.

The disclaimer is that Im out of the country for another month and cant use my regular Dr for the fill. Im ready to pay out of pocket costs just want to make sure its justified.

Thank you everyone for listening Cant wait for your responses!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Well Technically I'm on mushies now. My Dr ok'd fish and anything soft as long as its chewed well.

LAst night after being hungry I decided to make Cream of Wheat. Bad mistake. It didn't fill me up at all. I just stopped myself after a bowl and a half. Im assuming its just that because its so soft and smooth ,my band doesn't stop it at all.

Well today I had much thicker food and after a small portion I did feel pretty full. Im not sure if its the band or just my stomach being raw. I am in a rush to lose 45 lbs and dont want to wait till I hit my sweet spot. any advice??? Should I stick with thicker food? Vegetables? Thanks

  9. Hi i was banded on May 5th. Eating regularly now. Im so nervous that all my 24 pounds that I lost will come right back on. My fill is scheduled for June 12. My portions although smaller than they used to be, I don't think their small enough. And 2 hours after I eat, I feel hungry again. Help!!! Any ideas of what to eat to help me get through this? How many calories should I be having? Thanks everyone

  10. Well not really. I drank muscle milk which had either 9 carbs or the 100 calorie version that had 4 carbs. So definitely no spikes from that. I did lower my basel on my insulin pump. It definitely helped taking less insulin, but still had a few hypos. Drank orange juice for that. It was definitely tough, but well worth it.

  11. I had the same thing but in my right thigh. I called my Drs office and the nurse on call said its a very common thing to experience due to some electric current that they use during surgery while it being on your thigh. After I spoke with them I checked and I saw that they shaved that area. So I guess he was right. Today being banded for 1 week , The numbness has gone YAY Good luck

  12. Hi i had my lap band placed on May 5th by Dr Fieldings. I have 3 incisions. The largest one being in my belly button. Its been very painful. I don't think its gas as much as the incision itself. Did anyone have the same experience? Its really uncomfortable. Thanks.
